Week 3 - October Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road

Welcome!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all.

So we enter the infamous week 3. Along with week 4, these are the two weeks where you are very likely to see weight loss slow or stop altogether.

Don't panic!

This is entirely normal.

But, from now on, you can also decide if you want to continue with the strict approach of Bootcamp, or if you want to take a slightly more relaxed approach - Bootcamp Light. This means that you can incorporate some nuts/seeds, and some fruits - mainly berries. Alcohol can be introduced - moderately, and only those which are low carb.

Some people choose to stay on Bootcamp, others choose to do a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is yours - just keep a close eye on the scales/your measurements - or however you're choosing to monitor your progress.

I've had 2 good days, in panic at a bad week. I'm just posting to remember my food.
Fri
B: eggs and creamy coffee.
D: steak and tons of veg.
Sat:
B: 2 eggs, ham, hollandaise spinach. Creamy coffee.
D: roast beef, cauliflower, little bit of turnip, gravy. (Skipped the homemade crumble with custard, so the gravy was a small sin).
Sun:
B: 1 fried egg.
L: egg and spinach mushrooms and feta.
D: chicken and cod and veg (leaves,, broccoli cauliflower sprouts) with olive oil.
S: mint tea with Aldi 85% chocolate. 4.8g carb per bar.

I've done 10,000 steps each day, plus a swim and a 40k cycle.
I had shed the weight gained in Centre Parcs by this morning, so fingers crossed for a loss tomorrow.

@MrsGarethSouthgate that pie looks delicious.

Lunch cheese and olives.
Dinner gammon. Cauliflower broccoli cheese. Sprouts. Roast celariac.

There was a lot going on here at dinner time and I couldn't relax to eat mindfully. Consequence was I didn't feel satisfied and went back for more when things had quietened down. I now feel overly full and uncomfortable.

I keep active but I'm only in the gym for the swimming pool. I'm not that keen. But my tips are, and what I've found works for me...

  1. Have your bag ready to walk out the door. Have it in the car if you're going after work - don't come home and get ready to go iykwim.
  2. First thing in the morning is best for me. My body resists it, and I need a gentle warm up, but then after showering I'm good for the day.
  3. Nice kit gives you a little boost. A decent bra and shoes are essential.
  4. Most gyms provide an assessment and a simple weights plan, but you usually have to ask. I find they're not too interested if you don't ask.
  5. Maybe take a few selfies in your undies, and you can keep an eye on any changes.

I personally like the treadmill, as I find it gentler than running on the road. Headphones and Spotify help the monotony.
Ask me anything.Grin

MrsGarethSouthgate
Thanks! I'll be making that.

venusandmars · 03/11/2019 21:49

B - low carb granola with cream, yogurt and a few Scottish strawberries
L - (out) whitebait with buttered broccoli and spinach
D - pumpkin soup, cheese and biscuits without the biscuits Grin

Have had family visiting over the weekend, I honesty don't think they notice how few carbs they are served in my house.

venusandmars · 03/11/2019 21:58

Exercise - what's that? Blush I'm definitely not of the exercise bootcamp type - hate getting sweaty / out of breath. But I do consciously try to plan in ways to do 10,000 steps (quite difficult as I work from home a lot and my baseline would be less than 2,000). I walk to the supermarket, I walk to the swimming pool, I choose the train rather than the bus to town because the station is further away ( and overall the journey time is identical). I try to do a yoga / pilates / chigung class each week... It's not running, it's not cardio but I've probably done more in the last year than I have since I was 20 a long, long time ago and I feel more supple, I move more easily.

twinkledag · 03/11/2019 22:09

I hate the gym and constantly make excuses for not going Blush

absopugginglutely · 03/11/2019 22:16

@Summery1 thank you!
I’m going tomorrow when DH arrives home from work.
Can’t. Be. Bothered!

B: coffee cream
L: salmon scrambled egg bacon
D: lamb chops and FLGV with butter
S: babybellx2 slices of salami

Dia12 · 03/11/2019 22:25

I've been well behaved this week and although I don't think the scales will have moved much, my clothes feel better. I've been using an app called "carb manager" which is more low carb/keto centric. This has really helped me keep on track.
Hoping to keep this going 🤞🏼

Nonononon · 03/11/2019 22:49

Can someone tell me what FLGV means??
I think it means FAT and LEAFY GREEN VEGETABLES but I don't think that's right..

(Or is it fuck load of leafy green veg?? Grin)

Nonononon · 03/11/2019 22:53

Or fuck load of green veg that is..

BIWI · 03/11/2019 23:20

Definitely Fuck Loads of Green Veg!!

DownUdderer · 04/11/2019 03:37

I’m doing well today. I’ve had a lovely walk. Good luck everyone.

SittingontheSidelines · 04/11/2019 04:13

@DownUdderer I'm awake and on the thread but I'm still tucked up in bed, definitely not been for a walk yet. You have my full admiration and jealousy at your energy and enrhusiasm

absopugginglutely · 04/11/2019 07:21

Morning all, I’m on my week 5 starting today and haven’t lost anything again (I know this is typical in week 3 and 4) I’m hoping for a whoosh this week though to keep my motivation up! Maybe I’ll cut out the dairy / do an egg fast. I’m still over half a stone less that when I started which is good.
Need to keep up the water too!
Hope you’ve all lost!

BIWI · 04/11/2019 07:39

week 4 chat thread is here

8Track · 04/11/2019 07:45

Morning all! Gorgeously autumnal with a bit of sleepy mist here this morning. I'm looking forward to a stroll at lunch.

1.5lbs down this week, and after my hormonal fluctuations, 1.5 overall this bootcamp, but I have lost 17lbs in the 13 weeks since I started. Woop woop!! Slow and steady. I feel so much better, mentally and physically. Being more mindful in my food has helped me rely on it less for reward / comfort. booze may be more challenging

I went out for a fabulous lunch yesterday - not low carb, but I left 3 potatoes and a parsnip, and really enjoyed what I ate. A great cause too - The Clink Restaurant theclinkcharity.org/restaurants/brixton

DownUdderer · 04/11/2019 07:45

I’m in Australia @SittingontheSidelines

SittingontheSidelines · 04/11/2019 11:20

Oh that makes sense. And it's not like the clue was in the nameGrin
