Week 3 - October Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road

Welcome!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all.

So we enter the infamous week 3. Along with week 4, these are the two weeks where you are very likely to see weight loss slow or stop altogether.

Don't panic!

This is entirely normal.

But, from now on, you can also decide if you want to continue with the strict approach of Bootcamp, or if you want to take a slightly more relaxed approach - Bootcamp Light. This means that you can incorporate some nuts/seeds, and some fruits - mainly berries. Alcohol can be introduced - moderately, and only those which are low carb.

Some people choose to stay on Bootcamp, others choose to do a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is yours - just keep a close eye on the scales/your measurements - or however you're choosing to monitor your progress.

Venus I always make a Mary Berry nut roast recipe, wrapped in aubergine, for my veggie sister. Gets eaten by all, quite stuffing-like!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 01/11/2019 18:43

Great NSV 8track, brilliant!

Love the song Venus, will be humming it tomorrow while I sort the shop Christmas display. blame the boss Might stop me sampling the goodies. No carby twat for me!

8Track · 01/11/2019 18:45

Venus That worldwide Christmas idea sounds brill!! I may pinch it, shamelessly.

I'm still grumpy mother fucking fuming with my brother for being both hungover and making my parents 4 hours late when they came to ours for Christmas dinner last year. So I'm refusing to make any Christmas suggestions to my family. DP and I quite fancy goose. We might just get one even if it's only the 2 of us, and gorgeous ourselves.

SittingontheSidelines · 01/11/2019 19:01

@venusandmarsGrin
@ShagMeRiggins sounds like a difficult eveningThanks
That sounds interesting @Rayna37 I'm going to have to google that.

My food for the day

Breakfast leftover buttered veg with fried eggs.

Dinner cod with mashed celeriac, asparagus and samphire and loads of butter.

AthelstaneTheWhoooOOOooo · 01/11/2019 19:01

Yorkshire pudding with Christmas dinner? How would you fit it in your stomach, along with turkey, sprouts, carrots, roast potatoes, parsnips, pigs in blankets, stuffing...

Anyhoo. I have buggered up. Big stick and half time. It's because I'd put back on the 5lbs I'd lost when I weighed this morning. I mean, obviously, I haven't put on 5lbs of fat in 8 hours, but seeing that number back on the scales messed with my head and I have had a lot of things to eat and drink today that are immer verboten.

If it was a poor choice, I made it.

God dammit, I'm too old for this feeble dithery crap. I may try to reframe today as a 'feast' and let it go.

VeryLittleOwl · 01/11/2019 20:50

Another yay for 8Track from here - great NSV!

Our Christmas is currently a bit up in the air as my mum's partner of 23 years died last weekend (expected, he was in his 90s and had cancer, but obviously still very sad). Not sure if she'll want to spend it with his family, my brother and his family or us - I suspect she may want a quiet one and will either choose to stay at home and just go over to his family for lunch on the day or come up to us as the childfree option.

My Libra app is telling me that my trend weight set a new low this morning :)

Nonononon · 01/11/2019 22:03

So again, I didn't have the Chinese! I just really didnt fancy it in the end.. Me and my friend had a lovely meal, a mountain of sprouts and kale, fried leeks and steak with peppercorn sauce (made with double cream) it was lovely!

Rayna37 · 01/11/2019 22:32

Went swimming and had to really steel myself walking past the piles of slices of really lovely looking cake they had out to celebrate 10 years since it opened. Felt so pleased with myself when I successfully walked past it though. There will always be a tiny voice shouting "but it's FREE CAKE You idiot"!

Sorry to hear about your mum's partner, @VeryLittleOwl.

And hope your dinner/discussions went as well as they could, @ShagMeRiggins. It can't be easy but it does sound like you're approaching things in a civilised way?

Does anyone else have a regular gym habit on here?
I bought a membership last month and have only been twice!
I really need to get into the habit of going regularly?
Any advice really appreciated!

BIWitch · 02/11/2019 08:11

I see a PT twice a week. It's the only thing that ensures I go!

I don't go to the gym but I do do a Jillian Michaels DVD 4 days a week (5 days when my Pilates class is not on, to which I cycle, 6.5 mile round trip). I've convinced myself that if I don't do it regularly I'll immediately fall into decrepit middle age.

Maybe not the most positive of mindsets but it works for me Grin

SittingontheSidelines · 02/11/2019 11:02

No Gym for me I'm afraid.

I'm going to have an early lunch as soon as I get chance. More leftover fried vegetables, samphire and celariac this time, with fried egg on top.

Dinner will be pork chops with mushrooms and garlic, leeks done in Philadelphia

SittingontheSidelines · 02/11/2019 11:03

Posted too soon- and another vegetable but I've forgotten what, oh yes courgettes.

Ketomeato · 02/11/2019 12:25

Hi, has anyone noticed any changes in their anxiety levels when low carbing?

ShagMeRiggins · 02/11/2019 12:36

Changes in anxiety levels for the better, or for the worse, Ketomeato?

ShagMeRiggins · 02/11/2019 12:40

Oh, and thanks to those sending support re separation. Yes, BIWI, we’re very civilised about it all. To be honest, I don’t think we will ultimately divorce, but there are problems.

Today I got caught up with the rugby so need to get some WATER! WATER! WATER! Grin

Ketomeato · 02/11/2019 12:40

Either!

rosesandsunflowers · 02/11/2019 14:58

So DH and I went a bit off track yesterday and had some bubbles and red wine! I feel rubbish today but totally deserve it! Has anyone got a weekly food plan I could look at so I can make sure we get back on track again? Also DH is really bored having eggs for breakfast. What does everyone here do for breakfast?

BIWI · 02/11/2019 15:46

You can eat whatever you like for breakfast! We have Mr Kellogg to 'thank' for creating the impression that you have to eat certain foods only for breakfast.

At this stage of Bootcamp you can also, if you wish, skip breakfast - which means you're now introducing intermittent fasting into the picture. Lots of positive health benefits here, as well as helping with weight loss Smile

But if you are going to eat breakfast, how about yoghurt? With some fruit or nuts?

Or a continental breakfast - ham, cheese, etc.

A fry-up - bacon, eggs, sausage (make sure they're low carb), mushrooms, tomatoes

Alternatively, have leftovers from the previous night's dinner

ShagMeRiggins · 02/11/2019 16:17

ketomeato I’m certainly less anxious than I was when I started Bootcamp May 2017, but as it was part of an overall wellness path I can’t say definitively it’s this way of eating that is responsible.

Ketomeato · 02/11/2019 16:26

I ask because I fell off the wagon yesterday into some Halloween sweets and felt really anxious this morning!

BIWI · 02/11/2019 16:38

@Keatomeato

If you google low carb and anxiety, there are articles that claim low carb is both good and bad for anxiety!

However, this explanation (from a longer article in www.health.com) makes sense to me:

How does the super trendy keto diet help? By going low-carb, you can change the rate of glucose metabolism in the brain so there's a more active conversion of glutamate to GABA, the neurotransmitter linked to relaxation. "Because GABA is a mood stabilizer, the idea is that the ketogenic diet acts as a mood stabilizer,” says Feller. Anecdotal reports have also suggested that following keto can help reduce anxiety symptoms, fear, and depression, adds Feller.

If you experienced heightened anxiety by consuming more carbs than you have been used to, this would suggest that a low carb diet can only be beneficial for you

rosesandsunflowers · 02/11/2019 16:59

Thanks @BIWI. I've tried telling DH he can just eat whatever but it's not going in. Think I might buy some low carb sausages and lots of mushrooms so he can mix it up a bit.
