Week 3 - October Low Carb Bootcamp - the fork in the road

Welcome!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all.

So we enter the infamous week 3. Along with week 4, these are the two weeks where you are very likely to see weight loss slow or stop altogether.

Don't panic!

This is entirely normal.

But, from now on, you can also decide if you want to continue with the strict approach of Bootcamp, or if you want to take a slightly more relaxed approach - Bootcamp Light. This means that you can incorporate some nuts/seeds, and some fruits - mainly berries. Alcohol can be introduced - moderately, and only those which are low carb.

Some people choose to stay on Bootcamp, others choose to do a hybrid, so Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is yours - just keep a close eye on the scales/your measurements - or however you're choosing to monitor your progress.

Had a bit of a disaster tonight and made cauliflower cheese with cornflour without thinking. 88gcarb/100g 😳Not sure what the substitute would be, should have just grated the cheese straight over it before grilling, I guess would have been so much easier.

Such a shame as I had a 10 hour round drive today with my pre prepared salmon salad and bottle of dressing.
I strikes me that this WOE is very nurturing. The kind of cooking I would do for other people.

BIWitch · 27/10/2019 22:10

Cheese sauce is easy! A 300ml tub of double cream. Put it in a saucepan and bring to the boil (gently). Then add however much grated mature cheddar you like - at least half a 250g block. Let that melt into the cream, then season with black pepper. For added piquancy, add the juice of half a lemon.

Wow! Thank you.

Sounds better than regular bechamel sauce.

twinkledag · 27/10/2019 22:45

Thanks for the new thread!

venusandmars · 27/10/2019 22:49

My favourite cheese sauce is cream cheese mixed with pre-grated mozzarella, add parmesan and an egg....

8Track · 27/10/2019 22:58

@stayathomegardener
It really is nurturing food isn't it? I love cooking this stuff for us. Have a fish pie ready for tomorrow after no doubt a manic Monday, but it's all mascarpone and loveliness.

I've struggled a bit with having 'nice' food for us to eat regularly. I'll confess, i bought a lovely block of feta and saved it for best so long it went all green. Very wasteful and made me sad. I'm really trying to get into a more enjoy-it-in-the-present mindset for food at home, I'm ever so good at treating myself when we're out!

rosesandsunflowers · 27/10/2019 23:47

So I have a random question - is there such a thing as a low carb cake? Only reason I ask is it's DS1's birthday this week and I wondered if there was something I could make that we all could share with him on his birthday.

prettybird · 28/10/2019 00:01

Look at the "Desserts and other sweet things" recipe thread and see if you get any inspiration. It's not pinned so you'll need to scroll down a wee bit.

I've adapted one of Nigella's flourless (ie uses ground almonds instead) chocolate cakes (in particular her chocolate cloud cake with marguerite cream I use lime juice using erythritol in the cake (with lime zest) and inulin (with lime juice) in the accompanying "cloud" - aka whipped cream accompaniment.

Ds loves it and doesn't even know it's low carb. It's fairly sophisticated taste though - ds was already 16+ when I first made it Wink

prettybird · 28/10/2019 00:04

(I can only mention that thread now that we're beyond the 1st two full BootCamp strict weeksWink. NB: as the OP of that thread says, only to be partaken of in extreme moderation Grin)

rosesandsunflowers · 28/10/2019 00:08

Thanks @prettybird. I'll take a look, obviously this is just a one off so I may just make him a normal cake and I just won't eat it!

Glenthezombiebattlingostrich · 28/10/2019 06:17

Morning all,

3lb off this week, very happy with that, takes me to 6 out of the desired 14 (aiming for a 1 stone loss this side of Christmas).

Half term here so loads of days out this week, starting with a visit to a farm. All prepped and ready to go with a late big breakfast, snack lunch and a lovely dinner planned.

B - scrambled eggs and spinach
L - pork scratchings, peperami, cheese and cucumber
D - pork steaks with chorizo

Bloody freezing, the dog has refused to go for her morning walk!

@rosesandsunflowers what about a brownie with a sugar substitute and dark chocolate? Served with whipped cream? Or a low carb cheesecake? Can't recommend any recipes but they seem the easiest to go low carb with.

rosesandsunflowers · 28/10/2019 06:28

Thanks @Glenthezombiebattlingostrich - a cheesecake is a great idea! My dh doesn't like chocolate flavoured things.

I've lost 1.5 this week. Had hoped for a little more as I've been pretty good this week. My DH however keeps cooking things with loads of cheese so I'm going to try and cut that out and see if it makes a difference. As maybe I'm one of those people who can't have too much. I do feel a lot slimmer though - will take my pics later and do a comparison.

AthelstaneTheWhoooOOOooo · 28/10/2019 06:31

Morning!

No loss for me on the scales, but I do have another 1/2" off the hips, and that's great as frankly, it's my width that bothers me not my density Halloween Grin.

gardener, that's spot on. I wouldn't dream of offering friends or parents anything I hadn't spent time on and that wasn't quality food. So why shouldn't I show myself the same level of concern. Having said that, my internal running monologue most definitely uses words about myself I wouldn't dream of using to other people, so clearly it's not just food... Halloween Confused

TheGhostofRaynaJaymes · 28/10/2019 06:36

123.8lbs this morning (BMI of 21.9) which disappointingly I first reached last Tuesday, but wobbled up and down through a difficult busy week. Still, nearly 3lbs off overall and only 4 to target. Straightforward week for me except for hosting a big "Christmas" meal next Saturday; having had guests this weekend though it's been fine and at least I can have a glass of wine or two on Sat!

KOKO!

littlebillie · 28/10/2019 06:46

I have made today my start day, last week complicated with family and it was easier not to panic about starting until this week. I have 14lbs to lose before Christmas

Exitstrategist · 28/10/2019 06:52

Hooray! I lost two pounds in three days! So thrilled as I only started on Friday and as I am breastfeeding I am still eating fruit, nuts and dairy. Hoping to see a bigger loss next Monday! I have NEVER lost weight over the weekend before!

StabMeReapers · 28/10/2019 06:56

About to weigh myself... Hmm

Twit · 28/10/2019 07:09

Morning all!
Over the last 2 weeks, I've lost 6lbs, and
I'm definitely carrying on with bootcamp rather than going over to the lite version.
Had a good weekend both foodwise and otherwise, and I definitely look better in the mirror.
Had a slight cock up with the food delivery, instead of pork belly they sent pork steaks, with no where near as much fat, but I've no £ to replace them (I hadn't noticed until too late) so I'll be cooking them cut up and fried/ or roasted in butter. Hopefully it'll be ok?
Ok, am mentally prepared to stall, although hopefully not too much...
B: egg & bullet proof decaf coffee
D: pork, spinach, courgette (with butter)
T: siphoned off mince from bolognese sauce with the last of the spinach leaves of this bag mixed in, (I have more) and cheese.
3 litres of water.
Hope you all have a good day, KOKO.

Doilooklikeatourist · 28/10/2019 07:11

Not going anywhere near the scales as I’ve had a rubbish week , so will put stayed the same on the spread sheet
—Holds hand out for rap across knuckles from BIWIs broomstick—
Will be on Bootcamp strict for foreseeable future

Can’t work out how to do strikethrough on the iPad , used to be able to do it 😐

TheGhostofRaynaJaymes · 28/10/2019 07:15

Twit a pork steak is fine, a perfect bootcamp food, even when grilled (it's a fairly fatty meat). The fat is more to keep you full than help you lose weight directly in my understanding, as long as you've got some butter on your FLGV with them that's a great meal.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 28/10/2019 07:24

3lb down finally, after staying the same for the last 2 weeks! Will be keeping up the huge water intake 💦

B: Greek yoghurt with milled flax seeds and a few raspberries
L: Creamy mushroom and spinach soup
D: not sure yet

StabMeReapers · 28/10/2019 07:32

3lbs down, to the mighty 185, putting me at 51 lb loss since I started really trying to take control of my health three years ago.

Okay, hats a really long time. My first Bootcamp was may 2017 and some have done that level of loss in far shorter time, but...

Comparison is the thief of joy and I am really happy to be back here now, back in the driver’s seat.

Only 40 more pounds to lose until target, ha ha ha!

BIWitch · 28/10/2019 07:36

Good progress though - and all in the right direction!

Morning all.

Ah, thank you, @TheGhostofRaynaJaymes. Flowers

I'm going to be doing NaNoWriMo in November, (you try to write 50k words in November) so I'm hoping that it'll take my mind off eating...although I love snacks when I'm writing...
...I might look around to see what snacks I can find... Grin

KondoKonvert · 28/10/2019 07:47

I'm 0.8lb up, which I'm disappointed by but I can put it down to hormones. It's not a huge blip in the grand scheme of things and I'm still down overall.

It's a new week!
