Morning!

Here's what you have all been waiting for!

I love this week, because there are always some fabulous results - and those who really didn't believe it was going to work are always amazed!

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2019 14:39

4.2 down which is great for a start. I'm wondering if a goal weight is important or just thinking every pound is good and not to worry about the speed. I'm in no danger of getting 'too thin' Grin

@Nonononon I'm a fan of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. If BC is working right now save the bone broth fast until you can't stand the sight of another egg! Stock freezes like a dream so we always have a few tubs in the freezer.

prettybird · 21/10/2019 14:53

Stock freezes like a dream so we always have a few tubs in the freezer.

I have god knows how many containers of stock in the freezer Blush: loads of concentrated ham stock (from making a leg of ham very Christmas), chicken stock and even some pheasant stock Shock Plus various smaller containers of lamb jus, pork jus.....

I am trying to work my way through them (helps with the FLGV Wink) in order to generate some space for stockpiling/Christmas Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2019 15:01

Pheasant stock. I feel like a peasant!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/10/2019 15:03

oh gawd, you've reminded me the first pheasants of the season were handed to me yesterday. I stuck them in the shed to hang, but MUST remember to pluck/gut them tomorrow.

That means picking a stupid film to watch, while the cats sit and stare unblinkingly at me from about 6" away, willing me to put the pheasant down and just go to the loo or something, anything to give them enough time to...

Rayna37 · 21/10/2019 15:51

I've got lots of chicken stock but will likely start using it again now it's slow cooker season. Thankfully DH makes it I can rarely be arsed.

prettybird · 21/10/2019 15:51

I always buy a brace of pheasant at Christmas - one of which we have on Christmas Day (our "small" Christmas dinner after having had our main one on Christmas Eve) and the other one usually gets frozen.

Am hoping there won't be shortages this year! Wink

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/10/2019 16:03

pretty, I'll give you a shout nearer the time if you'd like me to hand some over to save you buying them? I could bring them up to work in a refrigerated bag.

Oh, just realised you might mean dressed, sorry. You'd have to do your own feathers and guts!

prettybird · 21/10/2019 16:13

Don't know how to do that Blush My dad does (ex-farmer Wink) but he'll be off to SA mid December Grin

Just checking in. 3lb off this week.

Hagbeth · 21/10/2019 17:00

I didn't lose that much but I do know why! I have had too much to eat, although kept strictly to low carb. I feel less inclined to eat big portions now and I also feel considerably tighter around the waist. It's like I feel slimmer than I am if that makes any sense! Grin
I'm doing this for my health, my kids and for my husband who's very ill, - I want him to see me like I used to be.

This week I'm going to work on my portion size and I should have a better result next week.

Good luck all !

Good luck to all of you!

BIWI · 21/10/2019 17:08

@Glenthebattleostrich

I have a nuts week this week, that's going to massively test willpower -

I totally misread that and was about to bang my Big Stick down and tell you off for eating nuts Blush Grin

@TamingToddler

Everyone has posted such lovely meals on here, I'm on a tight budget so lots of the meats etc I can't really justify buying

Actually you should find the meats cheaper than meats you would be buying if you were on a low calorie or low fat diet - fattier cuts of meat are usually much cheaper! Chicken thighs, compared with chicken breasts, for example, or lamb breast compared with lamb chops. And mince is pretty cheap - as well as very versatile.

@RubySlippers77 have you checked out the vegetarian recipe thread? It's stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic. Lots of lovely ideas there.

@VeryLittleOwl - one good source of nutritional information is Sainsbury's website. They show celeriac as 2.2g carbs per 100g, so I think you can trust that it's not going to be on the red list!

@PrimaDonna123 and @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

This is what one pound of fat looks like so it's not insignificant!

@Nonononon

how hard would you hit me with that big stick if I decided to do a 3 day broth fast in week two?

You have to ask?! Don't do it. You really need to get into the proper mindset of Bootcamp, and that's about eating proper, nourishing food. By all means, when we get to next week, drop a meal if you're not hungry - but don't start doing this.

@venusandmars sorry to hear about the graffiti. That's horrible.

@prettybird

I also made creme brûlée, using Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet recipe: ingredients cream, eggs, erythritol and inulin for the brûlée topping

Why?! No artificial sweeteners in the first two weeks!

@MrsTerryPratchett

I'm wondering if a goal weight is important or just thinking every pound is good and not to worry about the speed

I think if your goal weight is a long way away, focusing on that could be counter-productive; so concentrating on smaller achievements as they happen is probably better. Thinking 'I have to lose 10 stone' (not saying that you need to!) is much more overwhelming than 'hurrah, I've lost 2lbs this week!'

@IWillWearTheGreenWillow Rule 1 - you must eat three meals a day - for the very reason that you have given! At least your snack was a low carb one though. (Oh, and welcome Smile)

I see I didn't manage to successfully duck the Big Stick Grin

My excuse reason is that my brother is over from France and I don't know when I'll see him next. I'd avoided worse by deliberately offering to cook for them rather than going over to my dad's as although he's sweet and cooks good meals and tries hard for me, he often gets things drastically wrong on this WoE.Wink I reckoned the small amount of erythritol and inulin (less than less than 5g in my portion), with all the lovely double cream and eggs was a better option than my other choice of chocolate pots Grin I know that's a poor justification Blush

BIWI · 21/10/2019 17:35

Hmm. OK then ...
Grin

OP posts:
prettybird · 21/10/2019 17:40

....oh, and a cheese board wasn't an option: I was using what ingredients I had in the house Wink

ValancyRedfern · 21/10/2019 17:59

Hello. Can I join? Day 1 for me today. I don't really need to lose weight but I find eating low carb works wonders for my mental health, which is badly in need of a boost right now. I've often started a boot camp then drifted off so I'm hoping I make the distance this time!

Nonononon · 21/10/2019 18:00

Haha ok I won't!
Dinner was lush tonight, I really love the sticky pork fat that you get on a roast and usually if I was on a 'diet' I'd have to resist or only have a tiny bit which is really painful for me Grin but tonight I was able to have a good size piece of crackling and all the lovely sticky bits (with some lean bits) and it was gorgeous.
I had it along side a mountain of buttery cauliflower, broccoli and leeks.
I did slightly miss having gravy though. Is there a recipe for low carb gravy??

MrsGarethSouthgate · 21/10/2019 18:01

As mentioned on last thread, my loss was a pitiful 0.1kg 😁 But onwards and upwards, focusing on reducing the cheese dairy and trying to increase water even more.

Breakfast: spinach, mushroom and much less than usual cheese frittata

Lunch: Broccoli and Stilton soup with a swirl of double cream

Dinner: Marinated tofu stir fry from Rose Elliott's Vegetarian Low Carb Diet book (Thanks @BIWI). Contained tofu, bok choy, spring onions, button mushrooms, seasoning, garlic powder and a shit ton of butter and olive oil for frying.

3 litres water down so far, and 3 green teas.

Well done everyone on their losses 🎉

prettybird · 21/10/2019 18:15

Nononon - I just make a jus by pouring off some of the fat and deglazing the roasting tin with some boiling water (be careful because it reacts with threat that's left) and scrapping all the bits together and boiling for a wee bit.

If you have more time/can be bothered and want something quicker, you can roast on top of a bed of chopped tomatoes, shallots and carrots (celeriac, neeps, whatever you have) and then mush them all together, blitz (hand held blender good for this) and mix together with the juices as above. You could even add some cream and blend/boil to reduce.

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 21/10/2019 18:20

Eek I've been crap at checking in last week. In my defence, it was manic. Congrats to all of you though for your weight loss! Flowers

For me a 3lb loss which takes me to 13 stone 5. Pleased with that! Smile

B - coffee and cream, couple of mature cheese sticks (I was in a rush!)
L - stuffed aubergine with ratatouille
D - cajun chicken with broccoli, spinach and cabbage

absopugginglutely · 21/10/2019 18:20

I’m off to the gym tonight first time in ages!

B: buttery 2 egg omlette
L: smoked salmon, lemon, watercress salad
S:2x babybell 60g peanuts/almonds (3.7g carbs per 100g!)
D: buttered leeks, mushroom and Brussels sprouts with low carb Aldi pancetta and Parmesan sausages with half a tomato. Delicious. The leeks tasted really sweet though and the internet is telling me that leeks are high carb (14g! Per 100) is this the American measurements striking again??
I also had 2 cream coffees.

Rayna37 · 21/10/2019 18:28

Today's food:
B: 2 eggs scrambled
Snack of manchego
L: chicken salad (spinach cucumber tomato) with oil, mayo and wholegrain mustard. Yogurt.
D: pork steak, swede, cauli cheese and kale.

Lots of water.

Goblin87 · 21/10/2019 18:43

I am down around 2.5lb which is ok, although I was secretly hoping for more (of course) I’m feeling great in the day and I’m finding it easy to stick to the rules. It is in the evening that I am feeling really tired-anyone else have this?

BIWitch · 21/10/2019 18:50

@absopugginglutely which website were you looking at?! Sainsbury's info says that leeks are 2.8g carbs per 100g, so you're definitely safe with them!

@Nonononon I make gravy by using the juices from the roasting pan. I often add water or lemon juice to the tin while the meat is roasting (occasionally wine!) and this makes a beautiful-tasting (albeit thin) gravy. If you want it thicker, you can make a trivet for the meat with veg, and then mash these veg into the liquid

m0therofdragons · 21/10/2019 19:21

Very hard day today. Colleague has gone off sick this week and will be on leave next week so I have 2 weeks to cover. I went straight into emotional eating and consumed a bag of chocolate covered peanuts so the 4lbs I've lost are probably not going to help. Angry
