Week 2 - October Low Carb Bootcamp - how did you all do?!

Morning!

Here's what you have all been waiting for!

I love this week, because there are always some fabulous results - and those who really didn't believe it was going to work are always amazed!

Roses a licorice or buttermint tea is good when you feel the need for something sweet. If you're really desperate then a spoonful of double cream works too. It's undoubtedly due to the lack of sleep since that elevates your cortisol and hence your insulin levels.

I'm another one who can't eat the konjac noodles - they make me bloated. Coconut flour and flaxseed both do the same. I'm not sure that's a bad thing to be honest as I end up avoiding all the low carb fake foods.

Exit if you're breastfeeding then you can start straight on to Bootcamp Light. I suggest you take a breastfeeding supplement and if your baby is feeding through the night then keep a snack on your bedside table for the first few nights until you become fat-adapted.

Sauvignon once you're a few weeks in to eating low carb then you might find it easiest to just skip breakfast (or intermittent fasting as we like to call it.) In the meantime try having non-breakfast foods for breakfast. When I started low carb I used to cook extra chicken legs and sometimes have those for breakfast when I was in a rush. My DS4 still sometimes asks for a chicken leg for breakfast!

Hi all, just popping my head around the door. Really busy atm, but there's been no cheating and lots of water being drunk.
Can't remember what I had yesterday as I have a terrible memory, but today...
B: egg, bulletproof decaf coffee
Brunch: Grin pate and celery
Late lunch: pork belly, courgette and spinach
Tea: if I'm hungry, which I probably won't be, it'll be chilli.
3 litres will be drunk today in total, so lots of sloshing around.
Hope you're all ok, (I'll properly catch up later,) and have a great week end!

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 17:19

Just to point out - Bare Naked noodles, konjac noodles, shirataki noodles (different names for the same thing) aren't fake foods. They're a Japanese staple see here

They're very high in fibre, which is probably what causes the bloating and triggers your IBS, @MrsTerryPratchett

KondoKonvert · 25/10/2019 17:23

@BIWitch Good tip - thank you!!

I've been avoiding carb subs

KondoKonvert · 25/10/2019 17:24

Oops - hit post while dishing up the kids' dinner!

I've been avoiding carb substitutes so far but I've been curious about the noodles!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/10/2019 17:28

That's probably it. Absolutely awful! And surprising because I'm so much better on this WOE.

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 17:42

I find if I have half the packet I'm OK - but if I've ever eaten the whole thing (it is meant to be two servings Blush) I do get a bit of digestive discomfort.

KondoKonvert · 25/10/2019 17:53

Is it dangerous to eat these the night before a yoga class 😳😂

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 18:10

I don't think so - but why not try it and then report back to us? Grin

Exitstrategist · 25/10/2019 18:20

A stone off before Christmas- hope I can do it! Is anyone else looking to lose for Christmas? Day 1 going well but perhaps I’m too optimistic!

KondoKonvert · 25/10/2019 18:26

I'll report back GrinGrin

8.5 weeks til Christmas so that's less that 2lb a week. I'm concerned that all the Christmas nights out will slow my weight loss down!

prettybird · 25/10/2019 18:28

I've not reacted badly to Konjac noodles - and have been able to exercise the following day without any embarrassing side effects Wink

Exitstrategist - I'm wanting to lose another 1st 2lb by Christmas from where I am today, to get back to where I was last Christmas Blush I've already lost 2lb this BootCamp, so that would be 1st 4lb over the full BootCamp Shock

It's going to be a tough ask, but I'm just going to have to be disciplined and drink plenty of water Grin

Nonononon · 25/10/2019 18:33

D: (not the spicy meal i had in mind..) chicken breast and cheddar cheese wrapped in bacon, roast asparagus and some sweed/turnip (the yellow one) mashed with butter.

So what happens on Monday? The two first weeks will be up so what foods are ok to eat after that? Tbh I've really been enjoying all the food so far so feel like I might just stick with this throughout BC.

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 18:39

@Nonononon from Monday you can choose. If you're happy on Bootcamp there's no reason why you can't continue. But you can relax things slightly, and move to Bootcamp Light, which means you can eat nuts/seeds and (some) fruit - in moderation. Along with alcohol (limited!).

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

prettybird · 25/10/2019 18:40

It stays essentially the same but you can add in nuts in moderation and fruit (berries) in moderation Grin

You can also have a small amount of alcohol (low carb spirits, dry wine) - but while it won't knock you out of keto-adaption, it will slow your weight loss as the body will use the alcohol calories first, before "dining in" Wink

Nonononon · 25/10/2019 18:43

Well that's ok as I'm a non drinker these days anyway (recovering alcoholic here.. 😬) but I do like the sound of a pistachio Sunday 😏 (in moderation Grin)

Nonononon · 25/10/2019 18:46

Oh also!
It's my birthday next week.
I plan on having Chinese as a treat but don't want to sway off the diet.
What would be best? I'm 100% having salt and pepper spare ribs but was thinking of a Roast pork dish as a main??

absopugginglutely · 25/10/2019 18:46

Hi all- wow what a whirl wind of a day.
I had
B: buttery omelette
L: green salad Brie, salami, 3 tomatoes
D: Meatballs, tomato sauce (under 5g carbs per 100g) with Parmesan.
1xcream coffee
Snack: 5xslices of beef
Just catching up on water now eek!
Not a great day but AF coming tomorrow and have felt harassed and busy!

StabMeReapers · 25/10/2019 18:48

On Monday you can add booze and berries. And a bit of other stuff I never pay attention to.

This isn’t the IPD but I do remember similar, where booze and a few other foods were allowed after two weeks, but the advice there was you could if you wanted but if you had a fair bit to lose you should keep going with the first phase (BC proper for us) until you were about a stone (or possibly two?) away from your goal.

Not everyone can eat like this for such a long period of time, but it will be faster weight loss without the sugar from berries/fruits and without the alcohol to burn through first, even if it’s from clear spirits. Not to mention the empty calories alcohol provides. Zero nutritional value, with few exceptions.

BIWI I’ve often wondered if the notorious Week 3/4 stall has anything to do with the transition from BC to BC Light. Or is it the same for all low carb diets?

Nonononon · 25/10/2019 18:51

By pistachio Sunday i mean the DAY Sunday (not the ice cream Grin)

8Track · 25/10/2019 18:54

drips It's hard to work out whether one's actually hungry or just conditioned!! I try to have something to drink -sips of ice water - at all times so I can avoid that hand to mouth action. My office is full of lithe young things nibbling at all hours!!

Success at the breakfast meeting! I had some takeaway scrambled eggs with goats cheese and mushrooms. A fiver, but worth it so I didn't have to countenance pots of pineapple, smoothies, brioche sausage sarnies. Carby twats!

Lunch was leftover shepherds pie a la Biwi. Delish. Love the fattiness of lamb mince. Added some dried mint and didn't miss mint sauce at all!

StabMeReapers · 25/10/2019 19:08

Nonono I’m fond of the hot & sour soup (I always pick out the peas, which I’ve done since time began, much to the amusement of my husband from back in our dating days—I loathe peas, generally). Also the chicken lettuce wraps are quite tasty, not sure that’s special enough for a birthday meal.

On a personal note, a fair few of us have confessed to struggles with alcohol over past boot camps, and somehow knowing there’s a recovering alcoholic in the group gives me resolve. No idea why Hmm but thanks for sharing.

sittingonthesidelines your realisation of BIWitch’s identity made me laugh. A proper “doh!” moment, but I can see how it happened. Grin

My week has been a struggle to eat, managing about one meal a day, but sticking to plan in terms of food.

Today was better, though. Took my daughter out for some window shopping and really had a lovely time together. Stopped for a coffee, stole a bit of pork out of her sausage roll as had literally not eaten a bit of food all day (PLANNING PLANNING PLANNING!), but tonight it’s a taco bowl salad type thing with 20% beef mince, onions, peppers, and green leaves, with sour cream, cheese, and a bit of homemade salsa (Nigella’s Simple Salsa recipe).

WATER!!!!!

StabMeReapers · 25/10/2019 19:23

Carby twats! Grin

After doing LCHF a while, it does become easy to feel this way! Not so much healthy people with healthy weights eating bread or whatever every once in a while, more the realisation that much of the diet in this country, and elsewhere, is really stodge-centred, sugar-centred, and exceptionally lacking in vegetables, especially the leafy green kind.

Breakfast—cereal or toast or sausage roll
Lunch — sandwich of “healthy” salad padded out with potatoes or rice or noodles, with some sugar-laden sauce
Dinner—pasta or a pie with pastry or meat and two veg (potatoes again) or just something and chips

Not to mention the various “treats” every single damn day of biscuits with tea or cake at elevenses or the crisps/sweets/cupcakes in the afternoon, and dessert after every fecking meal.

Where the fuck is the real food? When did breakfast become pudding?

I remember when the children were young and I was all over the nutrition/balanced diet thing. The 5-a-Day was being provided by fruit for so many people, and a medical professional told me the veg was so much more the goal. And all I thought was, well why the hell didn’t they say that in their campaigns??!!

Sugar can be lovely, but good grief it’s everywhere and it’s gone too far. Angry

Ketomeato · 25/10/2019 19:25

Can someone talk me through the bulletproof coffee thing? What is it? What does it do?

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 19:26

The infamous 'no loss' in weeks 3 & 4 seems to happen regardless, @StabMeReapers.

I have often considered not relaxing Bootcamp until half way through, but I think that would probably be too much for most of us!
