Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

Hi @1Wildheartsease
Thanks very much for your great reply, really appreciated. I sadly realised chocolate/sugar not allowed on low carb bootcamp, hence my "ashamed" emojis. I'd read tomatoes weren't ideal, although the can I used last night were 3 g per 100 g carbs so okish I think, I'll read up again. Now I know veggie mince only allowed if you're doing the veggie diet, so not to mix. Not a fan of cream in my coffee, but I am now using full fat butter & yoghurt, olive oil & got avocados, mackerel etc for their good fats. What does LCHF mean? Low carb...? Thanks too for explaining the good fats, no sugar & low carb principles. I have read them & it certainly is a little tricky, but thank you for your support & like you say it will get easier once I get into a good routine! (minus Cadburys dairy milk!!🙄🙄☹️). May the force be with us all!😀

Hotdog19 · 06/09/2019 13:25

Wow! @BIWI Barbados!😎🌞 Can't wait till I'm 60! Have a fantastic time!
Love your size 8 changing room comment too🤣🤣 & @GreebolsSpiritAnimal congratulations! Was once a size 8 (my top half, lower half was size 10) it's a good feeling 😀.

B: 2 boiled eggs, 2 coffees & full fat milk.
L: Sardines, raw spinach, cucumber fried in butter courgette & mushrooms.
D: Two chicken legs & skin, broccoli & courgette & mushrooms fried in butter
3 litres of water.

1Wildheartsease · 06/09/2019 13:25

I'm glad if it helped @Hotdog19 . (Sorry if I lept in with too much enthusiasm!) Butter in coffee is great.

The HF is 'high fat' - a surprising but very important part of this. Your list looks delicious.

There are some interesting discoveries to make about carbs in innocent foods. (I'm still getting over the fact that sweet shallots are lower carb than sharp onions!)

I no longer miss Cadbury's chocolate...tried it again in one of the bootcamp 'breaks' and it was horrible - not at all how I remembered it! (Never thought I'd say this about any kind of chocolate but my tastes have been greatly changed.) 70% choc now tastes great but VERY sweet :)

If you are reading, there are some very helpful books out there now (though everything you need is on BIWI's spreadsheet guides). I liked 'The Idiot-proof diet' and 'The real food revolution' .

Hotdog19 · 06/09/2019 13:34

Hi @1Wildheartsease ha ha no problem re "leaping in" as you put it, but not at all, as it was lovely to have your reply. HF...of course high fat! And yes the shallots instead of regular onions I couldn't believe either!
Very, very impressed re your chocolate comment. I would love to feel like you...time will tell ha ha! 😀
Thanks very much re the book tips, they sound great.

ShagMeRiggins · 06/09/2019 15:14

I've never been a size 8.

Went to bed a 6 as a teenager and woke up a 10, Greebo? Wink

In seriousness, well done. Very well done.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/09/2019 15:33

Puberty hit me like a truck, ShagMe. Went from a skinny child to having a figure like a pin-up girl, and yes, almost overnight! My recollection could be faulty but I seem to think I went from kids clothes straight into adult size 10, at my smallest.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2019 15:36

Ok, I can scarcely believe it but...I appear to now be a size 8-10.

Fantastic!

I went clothes shopping yesterday and asked about a pair of trousers. I asked for 'my size', assistant said "for you?" and looked at my hips Blush I immediately went to shame as she picked out THE SMALLER SIZE. Heavens to Betsy.

Rshard · 06/09/2019 16:26

Enjoy Barbados BIWI, and Sat Bains is a fantastic treat.

Loving reading all the size nsv’s too

ShagMeRiggins · 06/09/2019 18:57

think I went from kids clothes straight into adult size 10 Shock Greebo

And fantastic, MrsTerry—why the shame? Just general embarrassment having your hips ogled? Wink

Mimosa1 · 06/09/2019 20:25

Size 8! Well done @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

One day!!!

1Wildheartsease · 06/09/2019 22:44

Wow Greebols - well done 👍

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/09/2019 16:45

Hello. I was on the last boot camp (under s different name) for, I dunno, 5 or 6 weeks. [Blush] I'm crawling back.

I think I struggled with repetitive meals and
hit a major plateau. I am fine with breakfast and lunch. Don't care about those, could have the same thing every day, indefinitely. Happy with greek yogurt and a couple of strawberries for breakfast plus a slice of crustless quiche for lunch.

I'd say that boredom over dinner and giving in to sweet stuff in the day is my main obstacle. I tend to rotate meat/veg tray bake with pesto, beef stroganoff, coq au vin, Philly chicken and the cheesy leek lasagne. They're fine for a short time but then get tiresome.

I have been on holiday this week and have felt shite about myself plus have a super fancy family holiday abroad in January to look forward to so have renewed motivation.

I only want to lose a stone or so. In my first two weeks I lost 6 pounds but then nothing more so got really frustrated.

When I get home from holiday I endeavor to photograph and measure myself and I'll start boot camp rules.

Does anyone know of any good low carb recipe books or blogs? I'm aware of the recipe threads btw.

OopsBird · 07/09/2019 18:48

@MonsteraCheeseplant
I've been on the diet for 2 weeks. I also lost 6 pounds the first week and nothing since!

Can you expect slow steady weight loss on this diet? Maybe I wasn't strict enough- started to have wine, nuts Blush

YesQueen · 07/09/2019 18:49

Costa help! I'm at the hospital Tuesday and I have to wait an hour between bloods and results
My habit is going to Costa - do they do coffee with cream or anything low carb? If not I can raid M&S as there is one of those too

VeryLittleOwl · 07/09/2019 20:30

princessbear - I'm suspicious about the new additions to the Tiptree range as well. I emailed them about the new roasted garlic mayonnaise because it said 0g of carbs on the label but sugar was the fourth ingredient. They emailed back a few days later to say they'd double-checked and I was right, it was incorrect, they'll update the label in the next printing run.

colouringinpro · 07/09/2019 20:42

Hi everyone, I've been sorting up on the boot camp approach and trying to implement it over the last 10 days. I've list 6 pounds, which is amazing, but have totally plateaus the last few days. I'm wondering if I'm eating too much. Today has been better, I've had:

Tea with dash of milk
Coffee with cream.
Omelette with little grated mature cheddar and some spinach leaves
coffee with cream
Dinner will be mild Thai prawn and veg curry (broccoli, 2 runner beans, half courgette, 2 tsp curry paste, glug of double cream.

How does that sound? (oh and water...) and a glass of brut cava

colouringinpro · 07/09/2019 20:43

*swotting up

Mimosa1 · 07/09/2019 23:05

Sounds good to me @colouringinpro ! I like your quick curry sauce of double cream plus curry powder. For some reason that's never occurred to me before! I'm going to give it a go.

DH is doing this woe with me and the weight is positively falling off him alright we're eating the same thing. I'm losing to but much more slowly grrrr!

venusandmars · 07/09/2019 23:10

@yesqueen I am very wary of 'cream' in places like Starbucks or Costa... I have found it tastes very sweet and I think that they use squirty sweetened cream.... I'd take your own wee pot of cream and get a black coffee.

Almahart · 08/09/2019 07:18

Koko here. My new favourite thing is lemony creamy veg - leeks, cauliflower and broccoli work well.

I’ve got two bags of frozen spinach - any ideas of how can I use them up apart from making soup?

OopsBird · 08/09/2019 08:22

@Almahart
Spinach & feta omelette. Someone suggested it upthread. I could eat it every day ! One block of frozen spinach cooks in 2 mins in the microwave.

princessbear80 · 08/09/2019 08:25

VeryLittleOwl ah ha so it was too good to be true! Which flavour did you try?

1Wildheartsease · 08/09/2019 09:55

I still love that spinach and feta omelette (or 'quiche ') OopsBird

Spinach goes well stirred into curry at the last min or into spiced cauli 'rice'

I also like it in low carb fish-pie

Yesterday:
Butter coffee
Water

Eggs and coffee with cream
Water

Low carb goat curry with coconut-flour nam bread.
Wine
Gin martini
Water
Rosehip tea

@MonsteraCheeseplant and @OopsBird:

I only want to lose a stone or so. In my first two weeks I lost 6 pounds but then nothing more so got really frustrated

I've been on the diet for 2 weeks. I also lost 6 pounds the first week and nothing since!

Unfortunately this is something that happens very frequently - and if you were doing Bootcamp with everyone else at the same stage you'd see that it's a common phenomenon. But as you're 'flying solo' - as it were! - it feels like it's just particular to you.

Rest assured that it's something that just happens - you've lost a fair bit in the first two weeks, while your body is transitioning from burning carbs to burning fat for fuel. Then there's a slow down, often weeks 23 & 4, before weight loss resumes again. @StuntNun is much better at explaining the science behind this! If you KOKO (keep on keeping on) then you'll be fine.

However:

Can you expect slow steady weight loss on this diet? Maybe I wasn't strict enough- started to have wine, nuts

You can expect weight loss on this diet - not really sure what you mean by slow though! What are your expectations? You should be expecting to see a loss of around 2lbs a week, but that depends entirely on a) how much you have to lose and b) how strict you're being.

What lots of Bootcampers have discovered, over the last 7 years I've been running Bootcamp, is that weight loss isn't necessarily steady. You may go for a few days, sometimes over a week, with no apparent loss - and then suddenly you'll drop 3lbs. It's called the 'whoosh'.

However, don't rely on the scales alone. Even if your scales aren't showing any loss it's very common for your inches to be changing - and your clothes to start fitting better.

But

... if you've started drinking wine and eating nuts - i.e. generally reintroducing carbs at a high level, then yes the weight will go back on!!!

Go back and read Bootcamp rules and make sure you're following them properly. Then you'll see the weight loss start again.

The other thing to bear in mind, @MonsteraCheeseplant and @OopsBird is that all the other posters who are posting what they're eating and drinking are not necessarily all, currently, following Bootcamp - so doing be 'fooled' into thinking that what they are eating and drinking is what you should be doing! Lots of people here are either 'holding' between Bootcamps or maintaining.

And because it's not Bootcamp, I tend not to come onto the thread and wave my Big Stick around!
