Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

BIWI · 22/07/2019 08:23

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

Thanks for the water ShagMeRiggins - I needed the prompt today (birthday for DP - eating out and about has been distracting). I offer you a keto toast!

eggs and coffee with cream
tea with some whole milk
water

baked Chicken leg
water

Fish and salad olives cheese and keto seed crackers.
Water
Red wine + gin and sodawater

The stories on here are inspiring. (Especially Mrs T with the graceful thanks. I am going to rehearse that!) Well done and please keep posting!

Forgot to add:
1 square 70% choc and 1 square of Montezuma's 100% choc
A delicious treat.

(Hope you are feeling better Gobbolinothewitchscat )

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/08/2019 01:39

Dead impressed, MrsTP, it took me 47 years to master that one.

IKR? I impressed myself. Now I have to walk in heels, have a drinks cabinet and clean the house properly. All adult skills that have escaped me.

YesQueen · 24/08/2019 08:52

NSV - my colleague commented how much weight I've lost

Any Aldi recommendations? Our brand new one has opened and I'm going for a mooch after work

OopsBird · 24/08/2019 09:51

I want to start on the Keto diet. I know it’s the only sensible way to lose weight. I’ve got about 3 stone to lose . Starting today! ...

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 24/08/2019 10:46

Morning! Feeling a lot better today. Although I had a fail yesterday - went to the park with the DC and met some friends. One had brought some crisps and nibbles etc. I had two cheese straws before I had actually registered 🙄. Resisted the ice cream van though.

Anyway, have restarted today and didn't use it as an excuse to have a carb binge so that's a win. Got friends coming over today and and am having roast chicken and salad things. I am going to have a slim line gin and tonic though which is the lowest carb drink I can find.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Thanks for the helpful links and found the blood pressure info very interesting.

I really need to be drinking more water though so am gojng to make a big effort today. I am generally managing two litres. What does everyone else do? I feel its not enough

YesQueen · 24/08/2019 11:10

@Gobbolinothewitchscat I have a 1 litre bottle and at work try and do a bottle before lunch, a bottle between lunch and home time and then a bottle after finishing work

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 24/08/2019 11:28

Am getting a bit of a girl crush on yes 😂. Thank you v much again for answering another of my probably idiotic questions. I also seem to have lost all common sense so keep staring at glasses and the tap and not quite managing to put the two together. Yes - I need a big bottle like the one I had when I was breastfeeding and felt like I was living in the Sahara

venusandmars · 24/08/2019 12:08

Got a big turnip (swede) in our veg box so have made my favourite turnip bake: thinly sliced turnip coated in melted butter, mixed with a couple of teaspoons of whole grain mustard, and a load of grated cheese (have added some camembert too). Bake in oven slowly - yum, yum.

B - Butter coffee
L - egg mayo, salad, avocado
D - roast chicken thighs, turnip bake, FLGV

water, water, water

Notlostjustexploring · 24/08/2019 13:47

Venus I think I want to come to your house for dinner. Do you put the grated cheese on top, or do you intersperse it? Cheesy baked swede is now on my list!!

I'm in a sulk with my scales. They are refusing to budge (although my clothes seem to be fitting better). I think my body is refusing to drop the weight while I'm still breastfeeding. I remember dropping weight the last time I stopped without doing anything special, so I'm hoping that my body is just being a right pain.
Stuntnun was it you who did bootcamp while breastfeeding? What was your experience with that?

1Wildheartsease · 24/08/2019 15:12

Turnip sounds good!

1Wildheartsease · 24/08/2019 15:16

We had runner beans in this week's veg box. Not my favourite veg - we had too many of them in childhood -either boiled or in white sauce.

I tried slicing them, coating them in olive oil , garlic, seasalt and parmesan and then baking them for 25 mins at 220 degrees. They were amazing... none left.

venusandmars · 24/08/2019 15:59

re the turnip: I just mix the cheese in with the butter and mustard....

Ooh, those beans sound good. I too struggle with runner beans and the idea of them in white sauce Envy

OopsBird · 24/08/2019 16:31

I came across a magazine in the supermarket today - ‘quick and easy Keto Diet’. Never seen one on Keto before! Was the most expensive magazine I’ve ever bought! But it’s got some recipes that look great.

1Wildheartsease · 24/08/2019 18:21

Venusandmars in white sauce they were just as 'good' as you expect (vom)... and so were the carrots and the butter beans. 70's cuisine : everything (that wasn't orange) should be in white sauce or salad cream or custard!

BIWI · 24/08/2019 18:48

@OopsBird welcome! Just remember, though, that Bootcamp isn't the same as keto - we don't count carbs here, whereas keto is strictly 20g or less per day.

You're very welcome to be here with us though Smile

Oh, and post any of those recipes you think are especially lovely!

Went to Aldi and managed to get most stuff apart from... cauliflower AngrySad
Going to get the last few bits from Sainsbury's on Monday, I love their bags of chopped cabbage and leeks and also tuna pate
M&S meatzza thing was on 3 for £10 so got those too

OopsBird · 24/08/2019 20:21

@BIWI thanks for clarifying that . I guess I should have known that from the name of the group!
Day 1 and I’ve stuck to low carb. Didn’t feel very hungry though which might be the heat.

BIWI · 24/08/2019 20:33

Make sure you have read the rules - and also have a look at the resources that are linked on the spreadsheet (in the OP, on the tabs at the bottom) so that you really understand what Bootcamp/low carbing is all about,

YesQueen · 24/08/2019 20:45

@OopsBird I find this way of eating helps me be less hungry hangry
Previously I've eaten porridge and banana for breakfast at 7am and by 9.30am been force fed Jaffa cakes by paramedics at work as they couldn't get my blood sugars up and I was fainting with it. Plus I don't have an off switch with carbs!

I actually find it fairly easy if I make sure to prep and plan food. A typical day for me would be

Breakfast - scrambled eggs or Greek yoghurt
Lunch - big salad, some form of protein, dressing or mayo
Tea - meat/fish and loads of veg
I snack on olives, cold meat, cheese, egg mayo etc if I need to (generally only at work, at home I don't get as hungry!)

venusandmars · 24/08/2019 20:56

Wildheart my most hated meal of my childhood was chicken and mushroom in white sauce. It would be one of those mystical chickens that serves a family of four for a week, so it would be the last tiny scrapings of meat. The mushrooms would make everything grey, and the sauce was thick and claggy. Sometimes with rice, sometimes as a filling for an omelette. Anything in a white sauce reminds me of it :(

StuntNun · 24/08/2019 21:08

Notlost I did Bootcamp while breastfeeding my youngest two children. I started my first Bootcamp when DS3 was 7 months old and I was still Bootcamping throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding DS4. I stuck to Bootcamp Light by the precautionary principle because there wasn't much information on the safety of it back in 2013. I now think it would be safe enough to do strict low carb while breastfeeding. But on the other hand, I also feel that the extra calorie requirements of breastfeeding mean you can be a little more relaxed about your carb intake. So for example not looking for the highest meat content sausages and maybe not worrying about gravies/sauces containing flour. I strongly believe in taking a breastfeeding vitamin supplement since any nutritional deficiencies will affect you more seriously. If someone starts Bootcamp while the baby is still feeding a lot at night then I recommend keeping some snacks on the bedside table for the first week or so. When I first started Bootcamp my DS3 was breastfeeding three or more times at night and in the morning I barely had the energy to stagger downstairs for food. Once you're through the low carb flu / fat adaption phase then it's fine, it's just for that initial part where you can't quite freely access your fat stores yet.

NigellaAwesome · 24/08/2019 21:13

Evening all, and welcome Oops.

Just popping on to say I have lost exactly three stone today. Scales did a bit of an unexpected whoosh. I'm delighted.

BMI is down to 30, from 37.6. Keep going everyone!

BIWI · 24/08/2019 22:25

Brilliant @NigellaAwesome Flowers
