Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

If you want to understand the science behind fat adaptation have a read of this - it's not too heavy

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 22/08/2019 19:31

Right - thanks for that advice venus. I really needed that

Much as I would like to pretend that this is a virus and self-medicate with ready salted pringles, I'm 99% sure it isn't so I will carry on. I have had a pint of water and am about to have some more cauliflower rice and chicken curry. I really need to do this as am bursting out of my clothes

SittingontheSidelines · 22/08/2019 20:20

In the 70's there was an art to pouring double cream onto coffee so it sat in a layer on the top (and you drank your hot coffee through cold cream) but it all feels a bit 'Abagail's Party' now

I still do this. (Shows how old I am) It's the only way

@YesQueen I'll swap your post office for mine

Todays food was a repeat of yesterday's except that at lunch time instead of cheese I had eggs.

SittingontheSidelines · 22/08/2019 20:20

Oh I had a bold fail.

YesQueen · 22/08/2019 20:31

@SittingontheSidelines our other one closed Sad she was lovely and used to cook the most amazing Indian food. We got talking and I commented how lovely the food smelt (my mum did a 6 month Indian cookery course).
Next time I was in she told me to hang on and came back with a container of sort of little bits of tasting stuff for me

SittingontheSidelines · 22/08/2019 21:08

It's like you live in an alternate post office reality Grin

YesQueen · 22/08/2019 21:14

It is Grin I do come across the most random things
Was riding my horse one day and a elderly guy was stood contemplating a sign and said "excuse me but how much would you pay for local honey?"
We had a chat about it while my horse destroyed his hanging baskets and he told me to come back via his house and gave me a jar to take home and a carrot "for the naughty horse"

I won't mention the guy I saw at Christmas running down the road dressed in nothing but a red reindeer thong and a pair of trainers Blush

BrassicaBabe · 22/08/2019 21:54

I made an amazing Rick Stein pork curry tonight. That is all Grin

SittingontheSidelines · 23/08/2019 01:33

@YesQueen Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2019 03:28

Makes me wonder why I bother.

I know it's a couple of pages back but... WTAF.

I hit 30lbs off this week largely thanks to you lot. I 100% would have given up without this place. And a NSV, one of DH's friends who we haven't seen in a while did an actual double take and said "you look great". And I didn't go weird, I just said, "thank you".

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/08/2019 08:22

Hello everyone!

Just back from a week's holiday in Cornwall. I mostly stuck to the plan, mainly by having a large breakfast, skipping lunch (as everywhere we were at lunchtime seemed to serve nothing but pasties, chips and sausage rolls) and going for the lowest-carb option I could find at dinner. I did feel a bit aggrieved in the chippy ordering grilled lemon sole with salad while everyone else had battered fish and chips, although it turned out to be delicious.

I did come off it a couple of times - occasionally deliberately, like when I really, really wanted the spaghetti with crab, and occasionally accidentally, like when I ordered the prawn salad and they turned out to be in crispy batter.

Anyway, weighed myself this morning, and have gained 3.5lbs from my lowest weight, which isn't too bad as I'm still more than 2 stone lighter than I was at the start of book camp. And I'm back on it now - drinking WATER WATER WATER right now. Grin

8Track · 23/08/2019 09:19

Wahey, 4.1kg down here and that means just edging under 10kg to my mini target - which feels like reaching a mini target in itself!

Had a night out with old colleagues last night. Too many g & slimline Ts, but am quite proud of myself for grabbing a low carb drunken snack on the way home. Yes, that was me at Vauxhall eating a mozzarella ball and trying not to get covered in the juice!

YesQueen · 23/08/2019 10:12

B - total, cream, PB
L - tuna mayo, half a cucumber for dipping Grin and some chicken skewers

I don't tend to eat tea on a late shift so for snacks I have some salted almonds and marmite cheese

Cauliflowerpower · 23/08/2019 11:14

(((shuffles in to the room)))

Morning! I've name changed (was pizza based) and am ready to start again from next week. I'm feeling puffy and swollen and if I needed confirmation that LCHF is the way to go then a few weeks off have confirmed it. My arthritis is really playing up so instead of waiting until after our holiday in September, I'm reading up on the thread and ready to go again. I'm drinking my buttermint tea water already though.

Right... Going to do a meal plan for next week (totally should be raising purchase orders but can't be arrised)

Oh and I have a NEW set of scales which should be arriving today. My last set broke (went very wonky - weighing light) during the last BC so I didn't accurately know what I had REALLY lost. I'm expecting tears at some point tonight after we set them up, but it will strengthen my resolve.

Cauliflowerpower · 23/08/2019 11:14

Thought you guys might like the new LC username too! :)

SittingontheSidelines · 23/08/2019 13:07

Very jealous of the name

venusandmars · 23/08/2019 13:38

Great name cauli Grin

Good for you getting back onto it!

My weight is not so much the issue but my blood pressure is, and my blood pressure loves this way of eating. I'd been sick with a virus a couple of weeks ago and feeling low afterwards. This led to wine, cheese and biscuits. Often.

I am up a couple of kilos, but my blood pressure has jumped up! So this week I am sticking to strict BC rules and food, and I feel so happy. It is reliable, tasty, filling (and fulfilling). Happy days.

B - avocado, butter coffee
L - creamy scrambled egg
D - steak, fried mushrooms and shallots, asparagus, ruby chard

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2019 14:25

I haven't checked my BP lately, does it really have that big an effect? Shock

Anyone done their cholesterol, that's what worries me? My nurse practitioner friend, who is on the fence about LCHF, tells me I should be OK because I run and eat actual food. She sees a lot of people doing this WOE poorly with fake food, no exercise, no greens and no water who lose weight but aren't healthy. I tend to think dropping 30lbs is going to be better (even with the butter) than a 'normal' diet without.

Summery1 · 23/08/2019 14:38

Gobbolinothewitchscat think of this awful feeling as RESULT! I found it awful in the first few weeks, but boy does the fat melt!

Venusandmars is October the official start of bootcamp? BIWI?
I have the tools to crack on, but 'misery needs company'.

ShagMeRiggins · 23/08/2019 14:51

This one dedicated to 1Wildheartsease...

WATER! WATER! WATER! Grin

Especially in this heat, and because—we all know this—drinking your water makes a massive difference with the weight loss. Even if you’re cheating or simply trying to maintain, drink the water y’all!

venusandmars · 23/08/2019 14:59

@MrsTerryPratchett

(imo) Years of alcohol abuse have left me sensitive to the combination of alcohol and sugar, It won't apply to everyone. However high blood pressure is part of a 'metabolic' disorder (like diabetes and other insulin derived health issues). And I first found keto type eating in my search to control BP.

Someone who has a normally regulated blood pressure would probably not see any significant change (upwards or downwards).

3 years ago I was 'overweight' bordering on obese as measured by BMI. My blood pressure was catastrophically high (210/120). Medication brought my bp down, but I wanted to be in control of it myself, and have been on a quest to do so. Cutting out booze, obviously (although my bp was this high with no alcohol for a year). Eating beetroot, drinking hibiscus tea, meditation, gentle exercise, good sleep habits.

All made a difference. I lost weight, I reduced my meds. But the final push came from this woe. In ketosis my bp drops to normal (or fluctuates thereabouts). I no longer take any blood pressure medication.

We are all different bodies, with different genetics and life histories. Please don't worry about your blood pressure if it's not been an issue before.

ShagMeRiggins · 23/08/2019 15:05

Athelstane is the May 2017 Bootcamp spreadsheet available for viewing? There’s something of mine I’d like to check, but I don’t see it. I’ll have a search for the threads from that time, just wondered how far back the archives go when it comes to the SoF. Cheers.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2019 15:07

That's amazing @venusandmars and really interesting.

I do think people 'fail' so often because they need to find the right WOE for them. We are told population size results when we only care about whether something works for us in particular.

ShagMeRiggins · 23/08/2019 15:10

Never mind Athelstane, I found it. Geez I’m such a lazy toad. Grin

How’s the non-smoking going?

Oh, and welcome to new person whose name I cannot be bothered to scroll up and check (see? lazy toad), and hope you get through feeling rotten in the next day or two. Carb “flu” isn’t like real flu, it doesn’t last long. It’s basically detox from sugars!

I want YesQueen’s post office. Envy

AthelstaneTheUnready · 23/08/2019 19:54

And I didn't go weird, I just said, "thank you".

Dead impressed, MrsTP, it took me 47 years to master that one.

Dear Toad: appallingly. Am stopping again tomorrow. I'm beginning to really dislike it. That's got to help.
