Starting tomorrow's thread early as I'm not around in the morning

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So far there seem to be some great results already, so I'm hoping they've continued over the weekend.

I love this week because the first weigh-ins are often spectacular, but also all those who were less than convinced are amazed how much they've lost!

It really sounds to me like people have really got to grips with this WOE, which is fantastic.

Here's to you all, and wishing you a good result on the scales tomorrow. (Or with the tape measure or the clothes you're trying on, if that's your preferred method of monitoring progress!)

Nigella- I put fruit tea bags in mine. Makes like a flavoured water!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 20/05/2019 12:11

Thanks for your advice thewayoftheworld, Ninkaninus and 18pagesfrontandback.

I gave away my jeans that fit when I was nearer 10 st than 11. Maybe I'll just have to buy some Grin

m0therofdragons · 20/05/2019 12:20

@IStillMissBlockbuster my targets have moved so when I began I was 11st 10lbs and my target was to get under 11st, then to 10st 7lbs with 10st 3 being my "realistic" target but in my heart of hearts I'd love to be what I was before the twins (after dd1 who never slept so I barely ate and was 9st 2lbs).

I'm now 10st so next target is under 10, then it'll be 9st 7 and I'll reassess at that point whether to maintain or lose a bit more.

I'm in Canada for 2.5 weeks in the summer so anticipating needing to adjust upon my return to doing my own boot camp.

Morning all. Some superb weigh ins this morning - congratulations! Will add my weight to spreadsheet tomorrow. However, for the first week which included two restaurant meals and a drinks party I’m hoping I didn’t do too badly. I avoided alcohol and canapés and hopefully therefore BIWI’s big stick but think I might have flunked on the water yesterday.

ChippingInLowCarbing · 20/05/2019 12:38

Hi all! I need to catch up on the Week 1 thread...but just popping in to say...

Some amazing losses - well done! 🎉

Anyone without a good loss (who doesn’t know why not) should re read the rules and think about what you’ve honestly been doing. Even little ‘treats’ breaking the rules will make it SO much more difficult for your body to get the message that it needs to start burning fat not carbs.

I haven’t weighed myself as I wasn’t at home this morning (just away with work unfortunately, nothing exciting), but before I left home (Saturday) I looked to have maybe lost a couple of pounds, but my weight can fluctuate a lot day to day anyway, so not sure.

But I’m OK with that. I’m vegetarian and I don’t eat eggs, so basically pretty much everything I eat (mostly veg, yogurt, tofu) has carbs in, there’s no filling up on fatty protein. It’s tricky to get enough protein & fat, but I do what I can with avocados, basil infused olive oil & butter and tofu/cheese (though try to limit that) for protein (plus what’s in the veg).

It’s not ideal for low carbing because veg is quite carby, even the low carb, when you’re eating enough for dinner.

Anyway it’s something I’ve accepted and try to focus on the other benefits.

  • eating better
  • helps lower my blood sugars
  • helps lower my blood pressure
  • helps to sorts out my cholesterol

and (TMI) gets rid of the Candida (thrush) that bring a Carby Twat brings on.

Also I put on my jeans this morning and they did up more comfortably. I’m hoping that by next week another pair I prefer will do up. I could have worn them, but only with a big struggle to do them up.

So I KNOW it’s ‘working’ it just doesn’t have a huge effect of the scales for me, but it’ll gradually whittle away the lbs.

I haven’t been full of energy, but I definitely feel better when I drink more water. This weeks goal is a minimum of 2.5 litres a day, (with an aim of 3+) every day. It’s NO problem when I’m not low carbing, but more difficult when I am.

I’m currently working in Costa, drinking hot water (I buy a pot of tea and save the fancy Jasmin tea bag for a friend🤣). It’s a challenge not mainlining lattes 🥴

bandit34 · 20/05/2019 12:39

2lbs down - Happy with that, even more happy with the 1.5inch i have lost from waist.

Rshard · 20/05/2019 12:59

I have a goal weight istillmissblockbuster, but it’s a weight that I was last at about 11 years ago so conscious my face might not be good at that weight now I’m mid forties. I got to 9,12 last year on this woe; good size 12 and my face didn’t look like a bag of spanners. So I’m aiming for that again and will see how I feel and look.

18pages apologies for asking but have you had a name change? I recognise your writing style and you’re obviously well versed in this woe.

BIWI · 20/05/2019 13:20

@TheWaiting

One thing I'd really recommend - apart from posting on the chat threads - is to make sure you've read or watched some/all of the resources that are posted on the spreadsheet.

For me, realising that there were significant health benefits beyond just weight loss really helped to keep me focused. And even in times when I'm not keeping my carbs low enough to lose weight, I know that overall I'm following a way of eating that will contribute to better health overall.

A high carb diet is associated with:

obesity
diabetes
hypertension
cancer
Alzheimer's disease (sometimes called Type 3 diabetes these days Shock)

In addition, from the 7 years or since I started Bootcamp on Mumsnet, people have reported improvements from conditions such as:

IBS (me, definitely!)
PCOS
menopausal symptoms
Candida/thrush
asthma/eczema
PMS
acne

... to name just a few!

But understanding the science behind this way of eating will also really help you to keep focused.

@Summery1

(Sorry - in my haste to answer you I posted on the wrong thread!)

I picked up on the arrabbiata sauce because of how you posted:

L: chicken breast with arrabiata sauce (think carb free)

... to point out that it won't be carb free at all! Tomatoes are allowed, but you have to be careful because in a sauce they can quickly become quite carby. And it also depends what else is in the sauce. Just as an example, Sainsbury's fresh arrabbiata sauce has 14.5g carbs in half a pot

That, taken with the rest of the food you'd eaten that day, was a potential concern.

Thanks for the tip of taking a weekly selfie in the same clothes. This is a great idea that I’ll start today.

BIWI · 20/05/2019 13:24

I'm not going to be around much from here on, till late tomorrow, and I have family staying with me all week - I'll do my best to keep up with the threads though!

Ninkaninus · 20/05/2019 13:33

Today’s lunch!

Salt and chilli chicken wings from Aldi, with crudités and guacamole.

It’s on the higher side for carbs but my dinner will be very low (basically just chicken and veg broth with a little bit of bacon and pork sausage, plus half a bag of salad leaves and some celery thrown in.

Today’s menu is higher on processed foods than I’d like (usually wouldn’t have prepared chicken and sausages/bacon on the same day) but overall my menus so far have been low on the processed meat.

Planning at least one fish/seafood dinner this week, hopefully two.

Top top: if you know you are going to have an evening where you would normally be having lots of snacks (for example, Eurovision night) a plate like this is a great way of swerving the cravings. With the addition of some pork scratchings you would get a bit of crunch too.

There is no need to sit there feeling deprived and suffering through cravings the whole time. Think smart and look at what the psychological patterns/habits are that drive your cravings, and approximate something that mimics that as closely as possible.

TheWaiting · 20/05/2019 13:43

Thanks BIWI

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/05/2019 14:02

Not going to make it to Boots to weigh in today, but will do so tomorrow. However, my jeans felt a bit loose this morning, and I've had to pull my belt in a notch!

B: Greek yoghurt with double cream
Snack: few pork scratchings
Lunch: tuna and salmon sashimi
Dinner: DH's birthday, and he's requested burgers, so I'll have mine without the bun and some buttery asparagus instead of chips.

Busy day today so not drunk as much water so far - just starting on my 2nd litre.

MrsFionaCharming · 20/05/2019 14:07

I didn’t realise boot camp had started again! Can I be added to the spreadsheet please?

I’ve been taking it easy, but lost 4lb since last boot camp, which I’m fairly happy with.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 14:33

5lbs off for me. For this week the goal is to stop relying on cheese.

I went to a baby shower yesterday and avoided the cupcakes easily by eating the artisan, organic, fancy salami and guacamole. Yum.

Well done on the amazing losses and KOKO to those people whose loss week is next week or the week after. Flowers

TheWaiting · 20/05/2019 14:44

What does KOKO stand for?

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2019 14:45

Short answer: keep on keeping on.

Long answer: just because this week wasn't what you wanted, don't fall face-first into a vat of ice cream, cupcakes and pasta.

TheWaiting · 20/05/2019 15:05

Thanks Grin

Iamnotacerealkiller · 20/05/2019 15:08

@Eatenalltheeastereggs

Isnt that 5lb? :)

18pagesfrontandback · 20/05/2019 15:11

No problem Rshard - yes this is a name change for me, I’ve not been on MN for years and needed to. I haven’t been on BC or any of the low carb threads before though, so not sure where you’d recognise me from Smile

As for being well versed - I wouldn’t necessarily say I was (but thanks Wink) Just a case of what you pick up and personally experience isn’t it? I’ve read/followed a fair bit of low carb stuff online over the years (which is how I landed up lurking here during the last BC) so I guess some of it has sunk in even if I’m still overweight HmmGrin

DrBuckles · 20/05/2019 15:26

Lots of great losses this week, well done!

I feel humongous today. I finally managed to go to the loo yesterday but it didn’t bring the light feeling I was expecting! My belly feels bigger than ever Confused

Ninkaninus · 20/05/2019 15:32

Buckles have you been having really big portions of meat? Sometimes I can have a bit too much if I’m trying not to feel hungry and I get that heavy feeling in my stomach too. I have to consciously not have too much, or eat too often. I also eat plenty of raw veg for roughage and to fill me up. Helps my system to feel lighter.

Rshard · 20/05/2019 15:36

18pages, thanks it was more that you seemed to know a lot about this woe so I assumed that you were a veteran of the thread who’d changed names. I’m a nosy bugger aren’t it?!

18pagesfrontandback · 20/05/2019 15:53

Nope. I was just lurking and genuinely inspired by the likes of Toots and ilovecherries, thought why not join in and benefit from the moral support? I’ve only ever gotten so far in trying to shift my excess weight so maybe (hoping) this will help keep me accountable and less likely to stay off of the wagon when I inevitably fall off it again sometime around the end of August!
