Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

BIWI · 04/06/2018 07:18

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Thank you for all the birthday wishes, having a fab day DH did good not just with pork scratchings to replace chocolate but beautiful diamond stud earrings too.
Ex DIL called in with dgc on their way to swimming lessons, lovely flowers and a bucket full of sugar free, carb free, 0 calorie ice cream! It was ice cubes, got to love a supportive family.

Out for dinner tonight at favourite restaurant - we know the owner well so they have prepared a special menu for me.

BlackMozart · 06/06/2018 18:11

seafour what a fantastic, supportive family you have. It sounds like it has been a great day, with a meal still to come. We are off out for our anniversary curry in a while. It is our local and we know them pretty well so I will be asking them to be making my curry without any added sugar or honey! I have only had breakfast and a small snack to make room!

prettybird · 06/06/2018 18:14

BlackMozart - never used them and have to say instinctively not keen - Iike to prepare my own food and begrudge paying for someone else to "process" it (bagged salad leaves is about as far as I'll go! Grin). I like Lidl free range eggs - and I will use up all the egg yolks (even if I have to go into an egg fast and make lots if scrambled eggs, each of them with a extra egg yolk Wink).

But I do like the idea of mayonnaise and hollandaise Grin

Gammeldragz · 06/06/2018 18:25

Sounds fab, seafour nice to your you're being well treated Grin

I am very pleased with my food today.
10am - 2 sausages with stir fried Cabbage
3pm - chicken salad with lettuce, cucumber, Parmesan and mayo.
5:45pm - hot smoked lemon salmon (Lidl) with a pack of mangetout, rocket, spring onion, Parmesan and mayo.
6pm - 80g strawberries with 20ml cream (weighed/measured otherwise I'd have loads!).

Especially proud of the salmon as I hate fish and have your force myself to eat it. Reluctantly admitting that this one was actually rather nice.

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2018 18:38

abbey how worth it is eBay for clothes? I’ve no experience of the site and a quick glance makes me think it’s a colossal faff, but I have mountains of clothes to get rid of. Normally pass on to charity shops but I wouldn’t mind making a few bob for a change as there really is a lot and some of it quite decent.

I wonder if there’s a Weight Loss Swap Club or something out there where people can either swap clothes during the weight loss process or buy each other’s stuff for a nominal fee.

I’ve also heard of other sites/groups that people prefer over eBay but can’t remember because my brain has been fried by this glorious sun. Zzzzzappppp.

cad186 · 06/06/2018 18:40

There is a programme on bbc1 tonight called The Truth About Carbs, reckon it'll be any good?!

MrsBertBibby · 06/06/2018 19:33

Bit of a downer today, I know I am less plagued with belly, but today I kept seeing myself and thinking despite losing well over a stone I still seem really bloody fat and wobbly. Doesn't feel reasonable to suppose I will get any further.

abbey44 · 06/06/2018 19:48

ShagMeRiggins - I usually charity shop mine too, but just lately I've been buying a lot on eBay as my size has been changing quite quickly. I don't want to buy new for a short time, or until I reach my target size, so I've been looking for bargains on eBay on the basis that when I've finished with them I'll just re-list them, so it's like hiring them, really. It is a bit of a faff, but once you sit down and get on with it, it's not so bad, and I'm working on the volume principle - even if I don't get a lot for each item, the sheer number of them Blush should make it worthwhile.

antimatter · 06/06/2018 20:09

@Goodasgoldilox

look for inspiration maybe on this thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/food_and_recipes/3230567-low-carb-low-sugar-treats-non-existent

I agree cold soup is no good but maybe the hotel could warm it for you and you put it in a flask?
If you took a cool box then feta cheese + salady things ( tomatoes, cucumber) would be OK for a day so that second day lunch can be sorted that day

sugar free jelly for a snack
canned sardines

www.lowcarbmegastore.com

but I would tbh just do IF and not eat lunch, just breakfast and dinner.

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2018 20:17

cad I’m going to watch and find out.

MrsBert try not to be too despondent. It’s just a bad day. Depending on your final goal weight, one stone will make a lovely difference but might not be transformative.

I’ve lost nearly 50lbs and still struggle with my body shape (mostly in profile), but I feel so much better and can do so much more.

Life is better and that’s what’s important.

Ultimately, body shape won’t be significantly altered purely through weight loss. If changing your belly shape is a goal, exercise must play a role at some point.

MrsBertBibby · 06/06/2018 20:35

Exercise. That's a whole nother problem! When?!

Rayna37 · 06/06/2018 20:41

B: 2 egg omelette with Cheshire and cheddar cheese and mushrooms
L: Salad (spinach tomato cucumber and the last of the hm coleslaw) with a whole ball of mozzarella and a bit of pesto
D: bolognaise (inc tin toms, shallots and green peppers) with courgetti and Parmesan
S: a few walnuts and 2 squares of 90% choc
One coffee and one tea both with milk and plenty of water.

Justmuddlingalong · 06/06/2018 20:53

I think The Truth About Carbs programme has been very positive. Was dreading it being a bashing exercise on this WOE, with all the negative comments from friends and family who don't understand it.

MumOfAPickle · 06/06/2018 21:13

@destinysdaughter these are mine - also quite turd like!!
I have had one and they’re yummy, the rest are in a bag in the freezer for those times when I really want a little treat. There’s very little sugar (i used xylitol) in them (45g and I made 13 bars).

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!
NorthernKnickers · 06/06/2018 21:39

@Justmuddlingalong I thought that too...really positive program. I've had some negative comments too, which I can live with...I'm seeing the results and feeling so much healthier, so I'm happy with what I'm doing 😊

Justmuddlingalong · 06/06/2018 21:49

Me too, @NorthernKnickers. Perhaps the neysayers will give it a rest now. 🤞

TimeIhadaNameChange · 06/06/2018 21:59

BIWI and Stunt - did youu watch the programme? If so, what did you think?

Was interested about what he said about resistant starch. Would you say we need to increase our intake and if so, how????

antimatter · 06/06/2018 22:10

@TimeIhadaNameChange you can have saurkraut for resistant starch, squeeze juice out of your kraut, chop some onion, grate small carrot, mix together and add some light oil, leave overnight and that will make low carb and very heathy snack or side dish

TimeIhadaNameChange · 06/06/2018 22:35

Thanks, antimatter, that sounds really nice.

I keep meaning to add some fermented foods to my diet, but never quite get round to it. I'll buy some sauerkraut this week and start fro: there.

ItsalmostSummer · 06/06/2018 22:39

It’s really strange to not have grains or sugar and I feel bloated and my weight has gone up (I check daily) and I have felt more hungry. Any ideas why? I eat loads of salad and green veges and healthy fats - breakfast was coffee, mct oil and a touch of cream; lunch was green salad, mushroom, chicken, healthy low carb mayo, with some celery and an avocado. Dinner was salad and ham with cheese. And a piece of cheese for snack in between lunch and dinner Maybe it’s the water. I think I need to up that? I am only drinking 1-2 litres.

Lonesurvivor · 06/06/2018 22:56

Re the bounty bars and "copies" of other normal food. I'm just curious is this recommended as part of this woe to incorporate dupes for goodies or are we meant to be training ourselves to not want that sort of food anymore or only occasionally?
They look fab by the way and I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer and there's probably not even a one size fits all answer anyway. I'm just curious as snacking on sweet things led to my weight gain and failure to lose weight consistently. I feel I'm finally breaking that cycle and while the bars look tempting I'm not sure I'd be doing myself any favours making them. But maybe because they're made with low carb ingredients they will be fine?
Have people included this sort of treat regularly and still stuck to the woe long term?

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2018 23:10

Exercise. That's a whole nother problem! When?!

When you’re ready, when you can, when your body can.

Baby steps. Journey of a thousand miles, etc... Wink

prettybird · 06/06/2018 23:25

As I mentioned earlier Lonesurvivor - it depends on whether you are an Abstainer or a Moderator.

I make "sweet" things like this maybe once a fortnight (probably less on average) - so not regularly at all. If we're having people round for dinner, then I've got a range of low-carb desserts that I can make now that my guests wouldn't even know were low-carb. We're real foodies though (and have a wee hobby wine business), so we like doing fancy meals with fine wine.

Goodasgoldilox · 06/06/2018 23:38

Thanks for all the ideas - I have olives and nuts and tomatoes in my handbag for tomorrow.

It is a clean quiet hotel - but very basic and not many staff. Unluckily the only breakfast I'm offered is 'continental' - which looks to be mainly pastries and cereal.

There is 'yogurt' and fruit. I feel doubtful that it is greek yogurt. How bad is 'ordinary' natural yogurt?

There might also be cheese and meat of some kind but I can see that there are no eggs. :(

Lonesurvivor · 06/06/2018 23:41

Sorry prettybird I missed that post. That makes sense. I wouldnt mind making something like that if I knew they'd be gone in one go sharing with other people. If they were left just for me I'm not sure it'd be helpful to say the leastGrin
