Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

BIWI · 04/06/2018 07:18

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Hang in there Mrs Bert - this has happened to me at about the same stage.

I think it is a sort of trick from the brain - another way of getting you back to eating too much again!

Just remember that the mirror belongs to the wicked witch and the image in there is not to be trusted. Hang a pretty scarf over it if necessary.

It won't last. You know - at a stone down - that you are really MUCH thinner. It will show to you soon. Just ignore the witch.

lonesurvivor, I never make or eat low carb ‘treats’. I really don’t want to see that kind of food AS a treat to be honest. I never make deserts, even for guests. I occasionally (and I mean once or twice over the last six months) make chocolate dipped strawberries and Brazil nuts with 90pc chocolate, but that’s it.

DianaT1969 · 07/06/2018 07:27

@MrsBertBiddy
Exercise. That's a whole nother problem! When?!
I have a vibration plate at home that I do10 mins of squats/press ups/tricep dips and lunges on. It is very effective for staying toned. It's also a 10min cardio burst if you flow from one move to the next without stopping.
I also do other things when I can (gym, yoga). But this has been wonderful when I'm short of time.
I also like dancing around the house like a loon Grin

Rayna37 · 07/06/2018 07:28

summer you're definitely light on water which can make you feel bloated. Have you seen the volume guidelines in the spreadsheet or previous threads based on weight? Also as for hunger you could still be a bit light on fat possibly? I'd add a bit of olive oil/ oily dressing to that salad too. You're eating healthy fats but they don't sound like a big proportion of the meal (hard to say from your description though). Really you need more actual fat like fatty meat, olive oil, butter and coconut oil rather than just things like cheese and avocado. Also frequent dairy can stall weight loss for some, maybe cut back on cheese?

Goldilox Ordinary natural yogurt is fine, usually under 5g carbs, but this could be low fat or sweetened. Go with your gut when you taste it (or ask, if anyone is about) and I guess just make the best of a bad choice otherwise. Fingers crossed for cheese!

This type of thing, but mine is a better model than this:

71.5 today and back to my Jan weight, 6m ago. It's definitely the intitial woosh as that makes 2kg off in 4 days. I'm frustrated to be back at square 1 for 2018 but the alternative would be to be 2kg heavier this week if I hadn't started again.

Goldie and Mrs Bert - I know exactly what you mean about not seeing the difference in the mirror initially. I've lost over 10kg since having my baby last year but I don't see it at all, although intellectually i know I must look slimmer. It's slightly compounded by the fact that a lot of my clothes are still small for me, and the bigger sizes I bought were all maternity wear, which I've now passed on to a pregnant friend. My DH has lost weight and i definitely notice on him...

@BIWI, what can I do besides magnesium, which I'm taking, to avoid painful leg cramps in the first couple weeks of BC? Thank you!

Twoo · 07/06/2018 07:41

Mimosa I’ve read on here about electrolytes being useful if you have leg cramps. They come in tabletvircpowder form that you mix in yo water. Chemist or Amazon have them. Hope you’re sorted soon.

Twoo · 07/06/2018 07:43

Tablet or powder form.

BIWI · 07/06/2018 07:50

@itsalmostsummer

If you’re bloated you need to drink more water. And it looks like you’re trying to low carb without eating fat. This is a high fat diet, and that’s what will help you feel satiated.

BIWI · 07/06/2018 07:53

@Mimosa1. Yes, electrolytes are what you need. Salt in your cooking and on your food, other good foods include salmon, spinach, avocado and full fat natural yoghurt. You could also try some Zero tabs, made by High5. You can buy these online or from places like Evans cycle shops

I found when I lost weight that it went from all over rather than just one place, which meant that to my eyes, when I looked in the mirror, I looked the same! I had to keep reminding myself that I was wearing smaller clothes so it was definitely working!

ShagMeRiggins · 07/06/2018 08:00

DianaT how much abdominal benefit do you see from the vibration plate?

Intrigued by the idea of it (though I’m a bigger fan of the dancing like a loon method of exercise).

RuffleBelly · 07/06/2018 08:03

I’m still slinking about in here. I’ve been feeling a bit miserable though.

Yesterday I couldn’t find anything to eat for lunch in Waitrose for £5 or less. All the soups seemed too high carb (lots of sneaky potatoes), all the sandwiches were obviously out, all the salads had grains or more sneaky potatoes hiding away. In the end I didn’t bother so good yesterday:

B: two eggs scrambled in butter
D: chipotle chicken with green peppers and shallots, coriander and sour cream.

I felt miserable and had really bad leg cramps last night (and the night before). Today I have left over dinner for lunch but it’s the smallest portion as that is all that was left. It would fit into a tiny teacup to give you an idea.

Oh and the cauliflower soup somebody linked earlier I rejected as it had potato in it as a thickener.

I’m sticking to plan but struggling. I think my water intake is a bit low though.

RedPandaMama · 07/06/2018 08:33

Place marking as I constantly lose where I am in the thread!
Been struggling the last few days and had lots of cravings. Need to realise why I'm doing this and how much happier my body is for doing it:

Increased energy
Better mental health
Weightloss, obviously
Better physical health
Less stress on joints
Healthier, better example to DD
Fit into nicer clothes
Fit into old clothes that haven't fit me in years
Get back to a healthy BMI
Less risk of health problems in the future

MrsBertBibby · 07/06/2018 08:37

Ruffle, Waitrose usually have a pot with 2 HB eggs and some spinach.

For soup, Covent Garden mushroom is v low carb, and Yorkshire Provender spinach pea and mint is low as well. And bloody lush.

I am lucky in that a) we have a kitchen and fridge with plenty of space so I can keep salads and condiments there, and b) my colleague is a low carb fan, so she gets it. So at present I have an avo on the windowsill, a box of leaves and a box of cheese in the fridge, and she bought us an egg cooker for when we want hot eggs.

Laska5772 · 07/06/2018 08:37

Ooh I may have had a little overnight whoosh ! but dont want to say it too soon!
but pretty much all of my clothes fit again . which is great , and Yesteday I had to swap the pair of jeans I bought in a size 12 for a 10 !(Next 'vanity sizes' i know.. but even so.. ).

I am going away fro weekend to family bbq and then to london museums.. as not am drinking s at mo thats ok (ill have water, lemon and ice.. and drive) and ill make sure i take a marinaded bit of meat to throw on BBq because im pretty sure theirs will have 'bbq sauce'- on it and the sossies wont be LC.

Sunday may be more problematic as trip to London and DH will want coffe/cake/ lunch.. ill have to improvise.. but he is supportive of LC so I'm sure ill be able to find a salad . and ill have eggs before we go

ilovecherries · 07/06/2018 08:44

ruffle, sorry you are feeling rubbish. Sounds as if you need more water and electrolytes. The one thing I’ve learned on this plan though is that you do need to actually plan. There is no guarantee of getting decent food on the hoof, and you can end up miserably hungry when nipping into a sandwich shop is no longer an option. Can you think about doubling the portions for you evening meals, having a collection of appropriate stuff you can assemble in quick time eg drumsticks, cold ham, cooked sausages, hard boiled eggs, cut veggies. In an emergency I’ve even just bought and avocado, sprinkled it with salt and eaten from the shell with a teaspoon.

prettybird · 07/06/2018 09:17

In terms of progress, sometimes others can see the progress when we can't.

When I posted up this pictures in earlier Boot Camps, I couldn't see much difference - yet the difference was obvious to the lovely people on Boot Camp.

The first is the picture of me at the wedding on 24 May last year of me at my heaviest (1lb off 15 stone and after the depressing trip to find something anything to wear Sad) and then c2 stone 4lb later in early November.

The second is self explanatory - 10lb difference between the pictures but also doing the Shred/Ripped 4 days a week. So, a 3 stone difference in total.

Since then I had a wee bit of falling off and chasing after the wagon until this latest Boot Camp - but I am back to that weight just about now. I'll do another photo next time I break through a weight target - or if I see the difference in my measurements.

I'm also enjoying wearing skirts that I hadn't been able to fit into last year. My two Boden 14 skirts are now loose on me (again Blush) as opposed to "don't even think about trying those skirts on as it would depress you" Grin I have a nice shift dress I must delve into storage cases to find try on as of like to wear it to the garden party I'm going to a week on Saturday.

Rshard · 07/06/2018 09:20

have I remembered correctly that someone’s child is on a gluten free diet? Perhaps two bootcampers? I’m beginning to think that my dd has a gluten intolerance so would be keen to ask you some questions if that’s ok?

Sorry to hijack the thread with this.

bibliomania · 07/06/2018 09:32

Looking good, pretty!

I enjoyed The Truth about Carbs last night. I could have done without Dr Xand's colonoscopy, but the group of diabetics doing a 2-week low carb diet was impressive.

Pity they didn't talk about the necessity of eating high fat though, because I think that's the necessary but counter-intuitive part that tends to get lost.

Laska5772 · 07/06/2018 09:33

prettybird all I can say is WOW you look fab!

I did start 30 day shred about a year ago but never kept it up , then got injured and basically ate my way through the resulting sciatica for 9 months ( hence back here) .

I have had another small accident ( careless!) and have a badly bruised foot right now, but i think ill have to get my shred dvd out again .

Destinysdaughter · 07/06/2018 09:48

Re making low carb sweet treats, personally I find it useful as things like low carb brownies are good for things like a quick breakfast, a snack and they are very portable. Often I can't face something too fatty first thing in the morning, so something that is 'like' a cake works for me. I find them v filling so I don't binge on them.

Also it stops me feeling deprived and is one of the pluses of this WOE: because things like cream and butter are allowed, you can make fabulous cakes and desserts and still lose weight! I rarely allowed myself such things when eating 'normally' as I knew they would make me fat, but on this diet I can eat them with a clear conscience! But that's just me, if you feel they would derail you, then don't do it. I've lost 21lbs so it has worked for me.😀

Destinysdaughter · 07/06/2018 09:52

bibliomania which channel was The truth about carbs on please? I'd like to watch it and also to show to to my DP as he has about 4 stone to lose and is sadly v anti low carb!

bibliomania · 07/06/2018 09:58

Destiny, it was BBC1.

Rshard · 07/06/2018 10:00

You look gorgeous prettybird

It’s was in BBC 1 I think destinys, so will be on iplayer. I’m going to watch it too.

I’ve just weighed myself, very late I know but I’ve finally made into the 9’s - 139’8 but I’m taking that. Will hopefully be a smidge more by Monday’s weigh in.
