Low-carb bootcamp

Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

I'd so sorry to hear it leapin. How wonderful that your sister and you were able to be there for him in such a difficult way. My heart goes out to your uncle as well

@Grimbles - congratulations! A baby :)

Before this woe, I used to buy loads of frozen veg. However, I'm a real convert to fresh cauliflower and broccoli. It tastes SO much nicer roasted for 30mn with olive oil. I do a really quick meal where you just lay salmon fillets over the raw veg with loads of olive oil, salt and pepper (and I add garlic salt but obviously not for everyone) and just bung it in the over, skin side down on the raw veg. 30mn from a standing start, ie. un preheated oven, and it's delicious as the veg partly crisps up. I don't know if it's possible to overdo it on this woe - I've just 2 second helpings of the veg.

Congrats Grimbles and condolences Leapin ThanksThanks

Thanks to all those who posted recipe ideas for cacao nibs and brownies.

I've also been suffering with constipation; still frequent but (tmi) often rock hard and painful. Psyllium husk in yogurt helping, I think.

Suffered an escalation of fuck-it's over the last few days. Friday's picnic at the polo was low carb in the main but excessive and accompanied by a glass of Pimms which while appropriate I realised only afterwards is really sugary. That night I had fries and beer with my lovely buttery skin on chicken and on Saturday I fell into several portions of (not even homemade) cakes and prosecco (not my drink of choice) with old uni friends. Big stick not required as the leaps on the scales are punishment enough, though I'll take it BIWI, but back on the straight and narrow today. Likely to see a second week of gain after touching a low of a very pleasing 123.4lbs in the week.

B: 2 scrambled eggs with butter and some yogurt with Psyllium husk
L: picnic leftovers: devilled eggs, olives, coleslaw, bit of chicken, few tomatoes
D: a really nice Waitrose coq au vin where you just add some wine and a can of tomatoes, with buttery kale. Strawberries and thick cream.

My running is going really well. I've entered the same 5k and 10k races later this year which my PBs are from back in 2014, plus two trail races at longer distances than I've done before (9-10 miles). I've madly convinced myself this maternity leave training window is a great opportunity to target improvements, hopefully get to "race weight" and that buggy running is similar to hill sessions, with faster efforts baby-free at weekends. We shall see!

Sorry to hear your sad news lizards

Well done on the shifting pounds ajandjjmum!

Skuse my ignorance, but what is this husk you speak of?! I remember getting a touch clogged last time I tried this woe, so it might be good to get some in if it does the trick (whatever it is!).

Congratulations grimbles on your pregnancy! Flowers

I am just getting going with the BC! Effectively on week 1...but bearing your terrific collective advice in mind, this morning I was ravenous and remembered 'more fat' so I cooked mushrooms in butter and added cream to my scrambled eggs and now I feel - if anything - a bit too full!!! Definitely helps to stop the feeling that I "ought" to fill myself up with a bit of bread. I am not great at the water either, which would probably help those kind of feelings...

havent weighed or anything as no scales!

Just wanted to say I am loving this woe. Absolutely wish I'd done it years ago instead of long miserable 1200 cals per day diets. I've had creamy coffees and full fat yoghurt every day, salmon with butter sauce and still have lost 6lbs. I feel lighter, leaner and healthier. It's weird but I almost feel more alive and not as sluggish.

I tasted a praline chocolate yesterday which I would normally die for and it tasted disgusting to me.

I used to have potatoes every night for dinner, garlic potatoes, chilli baby bakes, heaps of pasta.....and now I don't even miss them. I reckon I would feel uncomfortably stuffed if I did eat them.

The only thing I really miss are freshly baked scones when out with friends for coffee but am going to allow myself one maybe every 2 or 3 weeks.

Can't believe I was going to give up after feeling so bad during the first week.
