Week 4 - Low Carb Bootcamp - where we're KOKOing!

BIWI · 04/06/2018 07:18

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you

Just a reminder to you all that week 4, like its evil twin week 3, can be a difficult week where weight loss is likely to be minimal or even non-existent.

Please don't despair if you don't see any movement on the scales - this does appear to be quite normal at this point in Bootcamp.

Keep going, keep following the rules - stay away from the chocolate and bread! - particularly make sure you get enough water and fat - and you should see things get going again very soon.

Here's to a good week for us all Flowers

Happy birthday seafour. Have a great one :)

BlackMozart · 06/06/2018 11:54

Happy birthday seafour!

Really enjoyed my champagne last night and sea bass, bok choi and coconut and lemongrass sauce. Can highly recommend that sauce for those near a Waitrose. Not sweet tasting but yummy. Comes is a small pouch and in the chiller with salads etc.

Lonesurvivor · 06/06/2018 12:10

Happy birthday seafour

I've been getting frustrated with the fact I'm still not losing new weight. Been gaining and losing the same 7-8lbs since about November. My graph looks pathetic now
So... In an attempt to psychologically manipulate myself, I have downloaded a new weight tracker and set it up with my start weight for this bootcamp and am considering it my new start.
I started at 168lbs, aim is around 150lbs and I'd like to get under 160 on this bootcamp. Nothing else is relevant.

Off to look around my new Placement before I start next week and it becomes my second home for the following 8 weeks. After that (and three assignments submitted!) I'll be 2/3 of the way through my course.

BIWI · 06/06/2018 13:22

@TheGherkin

I miss fruit and I miss vegetables. I have found myself thinking of slimming world with fond memories

What are you talking about?! You can have - and should be having plenty of veg and salad on Bootcamp. And if you're doing Bootcamp Light you can also include some fruit.

What have you been eating?!

I actually did that the other week ragz, after sticking at 160 for weeks. I had such a long flat line on my graph that it had started to nudge my initial losses off the screen. I decided that the last 10-14 pounds probably required a different strategy and mindset than the first 70, so I would start afresh with my current weight and target and set different weekly predictions etc. I was finding it depressing when all I was seeing was my predicted goal date going further and further out every week.

Seafour · 06/06/2018 14:25

Gammeldragz I started a new weight tracker in week 2 of this bc, I'm glad I did.

Gammeldragz · 06/06/2018 15:21

Ahh, I see my genius is not alone Wink
Been shopping and stocked up on FLGV, only been getting 3-4 portions of veg on a very good day, trying to have some with every meal now. Also going to try and eat breakfast more often, but we'll see how that goes.
I'll need plenty of lunch stuff as I'll be working 4 days a week, so going to try some new ideas. Also going to go for a walk every lunchtime as I will get an hour for lunch.

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2018 15:24

Have the happiest of birthdays, Seafour. May you always be 30 inside. Flowers

ragz excelllent strategy—another idea would be to put your starting weight at 18 (your desired loss) and watch the app freak out with health warnings. Wink. Nice job on the course, as well. A journey of a thousand miles, etc...

Sorry I can’t remember the name of the poster missing veg, but...how is that possible? For the first time in my life I’m eating vegetables for breakfast (when I have it), let alone lunch and dinner.

Maybe it would help you to print out the Allowed Veg (or is it Allowed Foods) tab from the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and pop it on the fridge, then go through the recipe threads for inspiration.

I’ve never been as experimental with vegetables in my life—it’s been a real revelation how some I didn’t think I liked have become favourites when cooked differently. KOKO and let us know how you get on.

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2018 15:26

In other news: not recommended. Angry

bingefest · 06/06/2018 15:28

No posting for a couple of weeks but have been an avid reader of the forum . Would someone add 157 to the spreadsheet please . I-pad doesn’t let me do it . That’s 6 pounds since start of BC - doesn’t.t sound much but it’s been life-changing - fitting in to clothes , sleeping better , feeling positive , All this has been on a background of some big emotional dramas at home - I won’t bore you with details - that’s on the relationship thread ! Usually I’d have gone off the rails by now , this is really new for me. Thanks everyone for all the encouragement - my weight loss hasn’t been linear by any means but keeping the faith has paid off - by the end of Bootcamp I want to be someone who has stopped using food as a crutch and is quite capable of making rational food choices alll the time ( well- most -enough to maintain weight loss )
Yes we must badger restaurants and food outlets for LC food - it’s ridiculous paying for bloody potatoes on your plate - they’ve got to learn .

devoncreamtea · 06/06/2018 15:39

Hello campers! Thank you to BIWI ; ilovecherries and waswittyonce for suggesting I join the thread even at this late stage. I would have jumped on sooner but I was struck down by what I think must have been flu, although it seems an odd time of year for it! Still recovering but feeling tons better and ready to start the boot camp. I will just follow the advice for the weeks you have already done, I have had a look at all the info and feel pretty clued up now.

I have a couple of stone to lose, following having kids and the subsequent not-really-paying-attention diet...!! I have had a rough year this year and found that I don't have the resilience I used to have either physically or mentally which has given me a bit of nudge to make some changes. I will be trying to make room for exercise and a bit of relaxation too, as I know these have an impact on general wellbeing. I want to be well on the way by September as I start a pgce and anticipate a whirlwind year...if I can establish and stick to some healthier habits I reckon it will help.

I have enjoyed catching up with this thread - and well done everyone 🙂

GiantPandaAttacks · 06/06/2018 15:43

Happy birthday seafour

ShagMeRiggins · 06/06/2018 16:12

Welcome!

Yarboosucks · 06/06/2018 16:42

[flowers]@seafore!

Curious about the people making brownies and stuff... LC or not, on previous LC adventures I found that they opened the door to further cheats and compromises.... Is it worth it?

prettybird · 06/06/2018 17:11

Yarboosucks - it depends on whether you are an "abstainer" or a "moderator" Smile I am usually a moderator and as long as I don't make "sweet" things too often, I'm ok. Yesterday was deliberately so that I would avoid having a slice of the very nice light fruit cake.

I've promised to make 2 large pavlovas for a friend a week on Saturday (he's having a garden party). I've already checked out that I can't make a sugar free/erythritol pavlova - but I can make a "meringue" roulade using erythritol, so I may make one for me so that I avoid the pavlova temptation Grin (Anyone know what I should do with 14 egg yolks? Shock)

abbey44 · 06/06/2018 17:38

Happy birthday seafour

prettybird lots of mayonnaise and/or hollandaise (John Tovey's quick hollandaise is a really easy one) and dunk veg batons in it. Lovely.

NSV - I've started listing my too-big clothes on eBay....there are more than I can decently admit to, but it's very gratifying to see how things I bought only in February for my cruise are now w-a-y too big. I'm going to enjoy seeing the back of them Grin

prettybird · 06/06/2018 17:46

That's a good idea abbey44 (and congratulations on your eBaying Smile despite having lost 3 stone, I don't have been clothes to get rid of as I'd been in denial Blush).

2 of the yolks can also be used for a nice rich carbonara (courgette "pasta" for me of course Wink) one night.

Waswittyonce · 06/06/2018 17:51

Sorry to hear you've been poorly, hope you're fully recovered soon Smile

BlackMozart · 06/06/2018 18:05

prettybird do you have a supermarket near you that sells the cartons of egg whites only? Or perhaps you don’t like using them? I know Nigella was using them in one of her TV series but I can’t remember which one.

Welcome devoncreamtea !

yarboosucks on the subject of making low carb cakes , brownies and scones I have done all three. I have a chocolate and walnut cake in the freezer cut into slices and so far, apart from the slice I had when I made it I haven’t gone back for more, however I agree with prettybird that it does depend on being a moderator or abstainer. I’ve stopped eating dark chocolate (from a bar) and now I am a bit scared to start again because of where it might lead. When I make the cheese scones I do freeze them too (because otherwise I could eat two or three at a time) but basically then eat them pretty quickly and I think it stalls me although it doesn’t cause me to put on weight. With cake mentioned above I think psychologically I quite like having something there that I could have a slice of (in case I was desperate) but I am less and less interested in it tbh.
