Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

Abbey44

Thankyou for the chocolate recommendation. Looking forward to trying it!

Plantlover · 26/02/2018 21:16

Destiny

Splenda is on offer for £2 so I might buy it and give it another go. Thankyou for the recommendation.

Plantlover · 26/02/2018 21:19

Prettybird

Maybe I did something wrong but even when I put the brownies with berries and clotted cream I still only got cake texture not taste.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 26/02/2018 21:33

prettybird erythritol is known to have a "cooling" aftertaste. I can't get on with it, the brownies I made were bleurgh.

destiny do you use Splenda on a gram for gram basis?

prettybird · 26/02/2018 21:33

Found this interesting article about the risks and benefits of erythritol - and a wee bit about the difference from xylitol.

https://www.livestrong.com/article/556918-the-disadvantages-of-erythritol/

It does mention that one of the disadvantages is erythritol's lack of a satiating effect might mean an intended consequence of ending up eating more carbs Confused

Now of course on HFLC Boot Camp, we know to eat fats (especially) and protein in order to satiate ourselves Grin So, the chocolate lime cake had ground almonds and a gazillion eggs ok, six Wink plus the cream served with it to ensure we enjoyed the treat Halo

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2018 21:41

What does FLGV stand for please. For the life of me I can't work it out and it's bugging me.🤔

Almahart · 26/02/2018 21:42

I’m so looking forward to the baking recipe thread Smile

I have tried Splenda in the past and really disliked the after taste. Am really interested in trying the others

Rshard · 26/02/2018 21:42

Fuck load of green veg

prettybird · 26/02/2018 21:50

TheWayOfTheWorld - the lime in the cake must have been a good balance to the erythritol then, as all 4 of us liked it! Smile Personally, I think it is much better served with the cream - but ds likes it "naked" (he tends never to have cream with his desserts).

Next time I'll try Nigella's cloud cake and see if it has the same effect. I have in the past made it successfully with either Splenda or Truvia (can't remember which).

lightoflaluna · 26/02/2018 21:56

Urgh, no weigh in today as I can't face it. Last few days i've been feeling quite poorly; lots of stomach cramps and nausea. To try and pull myself round i've fallen head first into the carbs i'm afraid. Unfortunately the thought of meat, cheese and fat etc was just turning my stomach and i just wanted cereal etc to try and settle me down. Thought it had been something i ate and it would pass after a day but still have stomach ache after 3 days so think it's possibly a bug. Picked up some buscopan today.

Does anyone else find it hard to stick to plan when ill?

I'm going to get back on the horse. Thankfully i did my online shop before i started to feel gammy so i didn't buy anything off plan. Just a shame i couldn't have had a proper stomach bug where you can't face food and lose 5lbs. Typical Hmm

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2018 21:58

Fuck load of green veg

Thanks 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

BlackMozart · 26/02/2018 21:59

The brownies I made with erythitol were a v different texture (more to do with the coconut flour though) but perfectly ok. Having put 10 of the 12 in the freezer I haven’t felt the urge to get anymore out which is good. I’m going to keep going with it for now. I will use almond flour next time I think.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 26/02/2018 22:05

prettybird what is wrong with your DS?! Shock

I will make chocolate mousse soon I think. V simple recipe - 1 oz dark chocolate per egg. It is very rich so a FLTDC* sets it off nicely Grin

*FLTDC

Speaking of chocolate, I've found a tube of dark choc discs in M&S. 72% rather than 85% but 1 disc has 1.7g carbs and feels quite decadent. I keep my tube in the fridge so that the chocolate has a satisfying snap to it.

Today's food:
B: 1 sausage, creamy coffee
L: chilli with celeriac rice
D: panfried chicken in almond and Parmesan coating with sautéed asparagus
S: large spoon thick double cream, 1 babybel, 1 dark chocolate disc.
W: 3.5 litres

TheWayOfTheWorld · 26/02/2018 22:06

Blush forgot to explain the FLTDC - fuck load of thick double cream, of course!

velocitykate · 26/02/2018 22:13

athel glad your cat is better

abbey I agree with you. I'm a runner (if you can call a slow amble running) and I now want to get properly fat adapted so my muscles are used to this woe. There are elite athletes out there who can do ultra long runs completely fasted because their muscles have become so efficient at tapping into their fat stores for energy.

I thought the BMI thing was interesting - it puts me firmly in the healthy BMI category and again disses the low carb diet. I think I will take it with a pinch of salt.

I'm starting to get used to this woe (and drinking) and have gone from drinking tea with two sugars and milk to drinking herbal tea - it tasted like dishwater to start with, but is slowly growing on me. I think my usual tea would taste far too sweet now.

Anyway, 72kg for me - 3kg down on my start weight 3 weeks ago. Long may it continue!

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2018 22:14

Thanks wayof

I do like the fact this woe allows you to have a FL of many things. 🤣🤣🤣

YoLoHogwomanay · 26/02/2018 22:56

Athel great news your cat is home. Hope he pulls through.

shagme i have loved ALL of your posts today!

I've gained a little this week but probably because I haven't been drinking the water. Don't know why. Just couldn't be bothered enough. Will do better this week. On a good note I have stayed on plan despite many stressful personal challenges this week where I could easily have eaten comfort carbs but didn't.

Have a great week everyone and hope the snow doesn't affect you too badly.

BIWI · 26/02/2018 23:09

Sorry @prettybird I still haven't got round to doing the desserts recipe thread - I know you're desperate to post on it Grin

Work has been very full on since I went back. My sabbatical is already a distant memory.

Anyway, glad to see that there are some really good results here. Apologies for absence.

My day of KOKO didn't really happen. I don't know if any of you get this but, just as my period is due, I get really faint. This is fine if it's an evening or a weekend as I can go & lie down, not so good if it's the middle of the day and just as I go to give a presentation - as happened today. Throwing carbs and sugar into myself helped although the couple of people who know me the best did ask if I was OK afterwards as I was so pale and one of them had realised that I was clinging onto the lectern to hold myself up rather than for any other reason.
Tomorrow is a new day and I'll weigh 146.8 next Monday whatever I do anyway. Actually, I don't believe it. It is so inspiring reading about your losses whether it is people losing 1/4 of their body weight or 1/4 of a pound.
I did the BMI linked too earlier and am firmly in the green area. However, my thighs and knees still rub together which I would like to stop as it's uncomfortable when hot. I also need to lose a few more pounds to get into my favourite clothes and have them look nice.

MumOfAPickle · 26/02/2018 23:22

Food today:
B: 2 x fried eggs with buttered spinach
L: broccoli, chicken, bacon bake (this is my favourite lunch and one of the few things that gets me all the way through to a late dinner at 8/9 pm - made 3 portion size today)
D: chicken with broccoli and Philadelphia
S: 3 squares g&b's 85% choc

Destinysdaughter · 27/02/2018 01:46

TheWayOfTheWorld re Splenda, I just use the amounts specified in whatever recipe I'm using. But then I've never been the most accurate cook tbh! 😀

AthelstaneTheUnready · 27/02/2018 06:40

Morning, all - cat update first - he's up and down but trending upwards, so many thanks Flowers

Am firmly back on BC strict plan now, and oddly am not craving any of the rubbish I had been eating. I am glad I had my 8 weeks of eating well under my belt, as it feels I'm back to eating standard 'normal' now, rather than consciously fighting to make healthy choices. I have a new normal Grin.

Great to hear about all the losses - well done!

littlebillie · 27/02/2018 06:51

Did anyone hear this yesterday it's high fat low carb

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09smnhd

Rayna37 · 27/02/2018 06:55

Really enjoying the thread this week.

Yesterday was meat free Monday, which we've agreed we'll stop after Easter!
B: 2 egg omelette with avocado and 2 cheeses
L: leftover ratatouille topped with grated cheddar and a fried egg
D: Palak Paneer (adapted from a Hairy Bikers recipe) with cauli rice then the rest of Sunday's apple almond sponge.
Water, about there! No snacks. One coffee with milk.

Weigh in:

Jan 1st: 141.4lbs, stricter low carbing then...
Start of BC 30th Jan, 136.4lbs
6th Feb 133.4lbs
13th Feb: 131.8lbs
20th Feb: 131.4lbs
27th Feb: 131 lbs

Would optimistically like to see 126 by the end of March or at least get back into my regular jeans! Will have a 12 month graph for you tomorrow once I have the last Feb weight to get the correct monthly average.

Almahart · 27/02/2018 06:59

It’s freezing here! Just had a coffee with cream, planning on bacon an mushrooms for breakfast
