Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

Well done, everyone!

I lost .75lbs this week, which pleased me. However, that is 1.5lbs more that yesterday's weight, but never mind. It's my own fault, as well as a potato scone with breakfast and a wee pud (my usual Sunday indulgences - I'm a moderator so a little does more good than trying to stay off carbs completely) I decided that I was allowed some bread sauce (don't ask, and it wasn't even that nice), then, just before I went to bed I decided the hot cross bun, which was going stale, needed to be eaten with lots of butter, so I did. Eating something carby off the cuff is very unusual for me, so I'm not worried that I'm going to fall back into bad habits, and it will only be me who suffers anyway (as I have been, all morning!).

To be honest it may partly have come from Saturday's lack of food. DP ended up staying here so I decided to stay at home and help him in the garden rather than do the walk I was planning (will do that this coming weekend, hopefully). I have known for ages (and probably moaned about it here) that I struggle with Saturday lunches, so decided to make the Diet Doctor Pierogis using up lots of leftovers from the fridge, to give myself something hot and certain to eat, instead of just grazing. They didn't actually work as pierogis so I made a sort of pizza thing instead, which was very yummy, but very filling (and a tad too rich) which meant that 1/4 of that was all I ate in the day. I think my body was protesting about that yesterday!

In other news, DP asked me the other day to show him how much weight I'd lost, so I tried to translate it into a visual equivalent and realised my 36lbs loss comes out at about 64 packs of butter! Am rather gobsmacked with that, to be honest. What's even more baffling is ASD has lost nearly 220!!!!!!!!! That's blinking amazing!

I also calculated that, since last May, I've lost nearly a 1/4 of my body weight. Really can't compute that at all.

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2018 10:48

perpetuallybewildered have a look at this “smart” BMI calculator website.

When you calculate it, the result goes into an explanation about your ideal BMI and is one of the few I’ve seen that takes age into consideration.

It’s notable that they state their categories differ from recommended WHO guidelines and that according to them I fall into Overweight and not Obese. Yeah, I’ll take that, cheers. Wink

Rshard · 26/02/2018 10:48

That’s a fabulous attitude shagme!

My goal is only a few pounds below a healthy BMI but I don’t want to lose too much more off my face so plan is to see how I look and feel. I’d rather carry a couple of pounds and not look haggard!

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2018 11:01

Thanks, Rshard I totally agree with you about the face thing.

In fact, in Rayna’s photo from the Idiot Proof Diet there’s a bit of text above that made me laugh, about how it’s a no-brainer to choose face over arse every time (unless one earns a living as a professional arse double).

Cloudylemons · 26/02/2018 11:05

Morning everyone and thank you Biwi for the new thread. 2lbs down for me, I’m 11 7 now, haven’t been this weight for ages. And on a happy note my post-lipo legs don’t hurt as much and don’t look quite so swollen!
Well done everyone on good losses, and nsv.

Rshard · 26/02/2018 11:18

Exactly shagme!

ilovecherries · 26/02/2018 11:18

Wow, that smart calculator says I'm bang in the middle of the optimal range, and don't need to lose any more weight. It does diss the diet, though.

Rshard · 26/02/2018 11:24

It said the same for me ilove.

TerfsUp · 26/02/2018 11:26

Shagme, your post made me smile.

TerfsUp · 26/02/2018 11:27

Time, that is wonderful. Keep up the good work.

ilove, great news!

StuntNun · 26/02/2018 11:28

Can I ask how everyone decides on their target weight? Is it like the slimming clubs where it’s decided by height?

Perpetually it depends on frame size as well as height. You can check your frame size by circling your wrist with your thumb and longest finger. If they don't meet then you have a large frame; if they touch then you have a normal frame; if they overlap then you have a small frame. If you have a normal frame then your target weight is somewhere in the middle of the normal BMI range. If you have a small or large frame then aim for a lower or higher BMI in the normal range. So for example someone who is 5'6" with a normal frame would have a target weight around 9.5 stone, with a small frame would aim for 8.5 stone, with a large frame would aim for 10.5 stone. There is an added complication that muscle mass decreases with age so if you are older than 50-60, you might want to aim for BMI about 4 higher.

BrassicaBabe · 26/02/2018 11:48

That's helpful Stunt. Thanks for the new thread BIWI.

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2018 11:51

Terfsup which one? I’ve been ather chatty and glib today. Wink (and you don’t have to answer)

ilovecherries ooh that’s interesting about dissing the diet—where is it/what do they say?

What I liked is they talk in terms of health risks rather than just fat and weight.

ASDismynormality · 26/02/2018 11:59

Thanks for the new thread.

headoutofthesand. I hope I’m still recognisable as my passport photo is two years old and I’m going to the US next month - slightly worried about that but my features look the same just smaller overall face.

pretty. Sounds as if your dad tried!

shag that BMI chart is really interesting, thanks for sharing.

Athel lovely to hear your cat has perked up.

Lost 2.6lbs this week so very pleased.
I have added a photo which shows me before this WOE (squeezing in to size 22), November 2017 and today (in size 12 clothes - thanks Sainsbury’s and White Stuff for your generous sizing!).

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2018 12:11

Wow, well done asd, what a difference and hugely inspirational.

Perpetually. You can also do it on dress size. I don't weigh myself but decide which dress size I wish to be then work towards that goal. For me that's what I normally am and which most of my clothes are and is normally maintainable. I struggle with scales because I get a little obsessed and fluctuations can demotivate me. Where as a comfortable fit in a specific size is more of a smooth downwards trajectory.

It really depends on what works for you.

TerfsUp · 26/02/2018 12:23

Shagme, the post from 10.35:50.

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2018 12:33

Oh yeah, 10.35:50. I was brilliant then, to be sure.

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2018 12:34

Rshard · 26/02/2018 13:22

Thanks stuntnun for that info, really interesting.

Great photos ASD, really illustrate your fabulous progress. Really motivating

perpetuallybewildered · 26/02/2018 13:37

What a wonderful bunch of supportive women you lot are.

ilovecherries good tip, I’ve just cut a piece of string to my waist measurement and will keep checking it. I carry weight on my stomach and hips and oddly on my upper arms!

Rayna loved the face/arse thing, I’d never make it as an arse double so maybe I’ll go with the face.

Shagme that’s interesting, it puts me at my optimal weight so according to that scale I was underweight for the first half of my adult life.

Thanks for the frame size tip Stuntnun I’m small framed using that measure. I think I realised that already as I’ve quite narrow shoulders.

Bluntness I like the dress size tip. Although I was probably size 10 when I was much younger I can’t be sure as sizes have changed but I know I was happier being a size 12 in more recent years, probably because my shape was more in proportion. I think I’ll go with that as my benchmark, still got loads of size 12s in my wardrobe.

Thank you all so much. Even though I still haven’t lost any weight and I’m now in my 5th week I’ll koko.

MumOfAPickle · 26/02/2018 13:59

Well I lost a 1lb this week. A small loss which I'm trying not to be too disappointed about as it 2lb up from what I weighed in at yesterday morning. I blame Nando's. Damn delicious peri peri chicken.

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2018 14:31

Perpetually. Pick a fave size twelve piece of clothing as your target dress/top/trousers or whatever and just work your way into being comfortable in them. Make that piece of clothing your goal instead of a number on the scale. It doesn't work for everyone but it works for me.

Even if you can't get it fastened you can see progress quite quickly in how it fits, and you don't have the oh it was closer to fastening up yesterday than it is today moment you get with the scales fluctuating.

Everyone has different ways of tracking progress and motivating themselves. For me the scale number is irrelevant, it's pure vanity and I wish to be a certain dress size, and that dress size represents a healthy weight also, so I don't need to worry about rhe scales, as the two go hand in hand.

ilovecherries · 26/02/2018 15:17

shagme, photo with their bit about keto diets. Although they do have a basic misunderstanding as they describe them as low carb, high protein. And I'm not sure what the 'trickery' is that refer to. But nonetheless nice to finally be considered at an optimal weight (even though I'm really not, eyeing my belly!)

Is anyone else finding that bootcamper’s names are popping up on their predictive text? It’s happened on my phone a couple of times

BrassicaBabe · 26/02/2018 16:57

I've had a proper emotional eating binge todaySad. Crappy weather and a few things coincided to me feeling sorry for myself. If there is an upside I kept to LCHF "junk" -cheese, LC pate, pepperami, scratchings, peanut butter Blush
