Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

I feel like that too, Alma! I no longer have to think about decisions like "Shall I eat a chocolate?" when someone brings them into work. They are just not on my radar any more.

Nice to see you Cointreau. Maybe the satay sauce seemed ghastly because you are no longer used to sweet things? I'm finding some sweet things I used to like have totally lost their appeal.

StuntNun, I have been on the thread you linked to, and echoed what you have said. I'm not surprised the OP is constantly hungry, as her diet looks high in carbs and also in processed foods. I hope she'll come over and investigate this thread, as I think low carb would help her quite a lot, if she can work it out with her gall bladder problems.

SoMuchToBits · 27/02/2018 16:01

TerfsUp, I now have a vision of you coming home laden with a recently shot deer and a basket of berries for your dinner! Grin

CointreauVersial · 27/02/2018 16:19

It certainly becomes easier to stick to the rules the longer you do it.

I stuck a Percy Pig in my mouth without thinking the other day, and spat it straight out again. If I'm going to cheat, it had better be for something amazing, not a blooming Percy Pig!

TerfsUp · 27/02/2018 18:03

Close! I bought chorizo, mince, Heck sausages and chicken. No berries, though; I'm leaving them for the bears. Grin

Smacked on five strawberries and about twenty bluberries but no cake. Also had a stick of cheddar

Dinner left over roast pork then off to yoga

prettybird · 27/02/2018 18:32

I'm having cold roast beef tonight (left over from Saturday), with buttery cauliflower and brussels (dh and ds will have oven chips too ds will have his one brussel sprout Wink).

I keep trying to make extra veg so that I can have some left over the next day - but always end up finishing them on the night Blush

ilovecherries · 27/02/2018 18:57

I'm having buttery sprouts, left over chicken and whatever other GV is lurking in the fridge. And I bought three boxes of buttermint tea today :)

AveAtqueVale · 27/02/2018 19:09

Just felt the need to report a fridge scratch-up win. DS and DH had Burger King as a treat for dinner so I was doing my own thing. Fried up a giant bowl of pre-microwaved leftover sprouts in butter with a bit of smoked sausage, salt, pepper and rosemary and added grated cheese on top. Possibly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and I did not have high hopes!

Btw does anyone have a really nice way of cooking cauliflower other than putting it in cauliflower cheese? I always mean to try something different then can’t resist the siren song of bubbly deliciousness...

Rshard · 27/02/2018 19:11

We had sprouts too and dd actually had 3 but only because I forgot the broccoli.

I’ve just put a batch of chicken nuggets a la prettybird in the oven. Dd is going to take some to school for snacks

Rayna37 · 27/02/2018 19:12

B: 2eggs scrambled with butter and some creme fraiche
L: a small steak with microwaved Brussels and broccoli in butter with a sprinkle of Parmesan. Was going to be with salad but there are bye laws regarding the eating of salad when there's snow outside.
D: Savoy cabbage carbonara.
No snacks, one tea with milk, one coffee with cream and ok on water.

I have made a batch of coco-nutty granola (an I Quit Sugar recipe) with lots of nuts and seeds which is basically low carb crack, so have put away after a few nibbles while cooling. If I get hungry later may have a bit with yogurt.

prettybird · 27/02/2018 19:24

I make ds a fabulous if I say so myself Wink granola packed full of nuts, flaxseed, coconut oil, olive oil, egg white and cinnamon. Just as well I also put in rolled oats, as I don't think I'd be able to resist it! (There is also a small amount of maple syrup and then after I've baked it, I mix in dried cranberries, raisin, currants and sultanas)

TheWayOfTheWorld · 27/02/2018 19:34

Having a shit day at work so haven't even managed to eat my lunch yet - but the stress is wiping out my appetite anyway Sad

B: 2 sausages and a creamy coffee
L: zilch
D: dunno yet
S: creamy coffee
W: on 2 litres so far

BlackMozart · 27/02/2018 19:43

athel really glad to hear your cat is more up than down now. That must be a relief.
ave I roast cauliflower. It brings out its sweetness as with most roasted veg and just makes it a bit more interesting.
stunt the guest editor on radio 5 live’s afternoon edition today was a chap who’d lost 19stone and was asking the question ( something like)
“Is fat shaming the last ‘acceptable’ prejudice?” As he was saying before you criticise someone for being fat, you need to know their story. Rarely is it as simple as they are too lazy, too greedy etc. The texts read out were split both in support of him, and those who were pretty well saying fat people bring it on themselves and should just ‘man up’.

ilovecherries · 27/02/2018 19:51

One would assume that 20 Brussels sprouts would be adequate for one person. It is not.

YoLoHogwomanay · 27/02/2018 19:55

stunt I thought your words to the OP on the other thread were very thoughtful and tactful. If i waded in i would be all full on and gung ho about this WOE and probably put her right off!

sadly many people think it's ok to humiliate someone because of their weight and are often more outspoken on an anonymous internet forum than in RL. But it's horrible. I find myself thinking pitying thoughts sometimes when I see very very obese people, but mostly because I want to tell them about this WOE and help them to be lighter and healthier, like I've found. And i see them struggling to walk and breathe and i feel so very sorry for them because I know the lchf secret and they havent discovered it yet. There is nothing worse than an ex-smoker/born again religious convert/lchf-er, eh! I have seriously restrained myself from approaching strangers in the street!!

ilovecherries · 27/02/2018 20:04

I know what you mean yolo. I'm not at all a religious person but I give thanks every single day for finding this woe. It has given me back my life. We are expecting to be snowed in from tonight so today I walked the dog for 10 miles, fasted. That would have been inconceivable a year ago.

SoMuchToBits · 27/02/2018 20:26

I agree, YoLo. Unfortunately, I think that most people who tell someone they just need more willpower are probably the people who have either never struggled with their weight, or who have put on weight as a one-off event and found it easy to lose again.

It looked like the OP was struggling with a lot in her life, and that makes it really hard to focus on losing weight. Also the fact she had done SW but didn't like any of the food - I can totally understand that, as I think trying to follow that kind of weight loss plan must be very hard.

One of the things which has helped me so much with this WOE is the effect it has had on my mental health. Like the OP of the other thread, I struggled with self esteem following an unhappy relationship, but this WOE has made me feel like a different person. Like you, cherries, I feel I have my life back.

CointreauVersial · 27/02/2018 20:29

Ave - you can roast cauliflower in chunks - just toss with olive oil and seasoning and roast for about 30 minutes, turning it once half way. It goes all charred. Throw chunks of goats cheese on top for the last five minutes if you're feeling fancy.

Or boil it, and whizz it in a processor with butter, salt, pepper and a heap of double cream. Makes really silky mash.

Or process it raw into little crumbs, then stir-fry it in butter, with whatever herbs and spices float your boat.

BerylStreep · 27/02/2018 20:54

Evening.

Food for today:

B. Scrambled egg and half avocado. Coffee with AM&C
L. Tikka chicken pieces with half avocado. Punnet raspberries with creme fraiche
D. Butter chicken with spinach
S. Packet pork scratchings. Another coffee

SoMuchToBits · 27/02/2018 21:01

My food for today was:-

L mozzarella, avocado and tomato salad, with basil and olive oil
D baked chicken thighs with bacon, courgettes, garlic and cherry tomatoes

Plus lots of water and some tea.

No Brussels sprouts, but I'll be having some tomorrow! Smile

BlackMozart · 27/02/2018 21:11

OMG I have just read that thread that stuntnun pointed us to. There are 17 pages of it, lots of really helpful stuff amongst some truly horrible posts. I really hope the OP goes to one of the more supportive threads, and that she also gets some support for all the tough stuff she has gone through. It’s another form of self-abuse to stay on a thread like that.
I am very glad I found you all on this thread but I nearly didn’t join at all because I feared that kind of stuff.

I’ve had a bit of a crap day eating wise - all low carb but too much of it - but I have been drinking my water for a change.

Loving the very funny posts on here over the last couple of days. Some laugh out loud moments for sure 😀

prettybird · 27/02/2018 21:16

....well, I have failed again to have any brussels left over for the morning Blush

CointreauVersial · 27/02/2018 21:23

My food over the last couple of days:

B - Boiled eggs with pre-cooked crispy bacon strips to dip
L - Salad with ham and mozzarella balls
D - Sausages, cauli mash and cabbage cooked in butter

B - Three slices of flaxseed bread with mashed raspberries and greek yogurt topping
L - Chicken breast wrapped in bacon, grated courgette sauteed with cream cheese
D - Salad with pan-fried chicken livers on top

Copious amounts of herbal tea on the side....

lizard202 · 27/02/2018 22:11

I agree I am so thankful I found this woe. After several weeks of marginal up and downs I have had a bit of a whoosh and finally dropped below 11 stone.

Can anyone remember which thread we were discussing all our mini goals? I'm on my phone so can't search and can't remember what my next target was Hmm
