Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

Wrote a long post and lost it.

This has been a fab BC abs it’s not over yet....

Yet again I have lost no weight because i am an appalling cheat

So I am committing to writing down everything I eat for the next three weeks

Today
B 1 bacon and scrambled eggs
L salmon and flgv
Snack big bowl of ff yog and cream and about 10 blueberries
D will be roast pork with cauliflower cheese and green veg

Had three drinks with soya milk and a coffee and cream. Tons of water

Just snacked on a cauliflower floret!

Sorry you’re having a tough time, Brassica. Well done keeping to the “approved” junk food, though. Grin

ilovecherries I’ll interpret that as a concern rather than a diss of the diet per se, but I get your point. They do say may cause fat storage rather than will.

Interesting they mention the yo-yo effect as well. How many here say they got to X weight by low carbing then gained it all back when eating “normally.”

This is why maintenance is so important to do in an organised fashion, I think (get me, thinking about maintenance Hmm).

It’s not, ooh I’m slim, I can eat toast and sandwiches and mash and pasta and ice cream and Dairy Milks! It’s maybe one of those a day or maybe one of those a week—it’s up to us to pay attention when we’re upping carbs, to see just how far we can push without weight gain.

For me the goal will be to add in only my absolute favourites (I could murder a proper baguette with my epoisses right now) and to also add in higher carb foods that have nutritional value as wel (Hello you sexy root vegetables).

But you know all that already. Blush

ShagMeRiggins · 26/02/2018 17:20

Almahart I’ll hold you to that.

Seriously, I’ve just put a daily reminder in my iCal.

Rshard · 26/02/2018 17:23

Are you feeling better now brassica?

Why have you cheated alma? Is it linked to anything or just a fuck it moment? I think posting your food is a good idea, we’re all here for you

Lol! You’ve been on fine form today shagme

Almahart · 26/02/2018 17:38

That made me laugh out loud!! Thank you

Have just eaten another couple of cauliflower florets and a hunk of cheddar

Honestly I think they’ve all been fuck it moments. Yesterday was a terrible accident with Lidl protein rolls

Evening all. Excellent progress by everyone! I'm claiming the 92kg I saw on the scales yesterday (202lb). I so, so want to reach under 200lb and 90kg before I go skiing.

Shag you're on fire today.

Athel really pleasing news about your cat.

Alma I think soya milk is the work of the devil. I blame it for gaining 14kgs in a matter of months!

abbey44 · 26/02/2018 18:46

That BMI calculator is interesting. Puts me firmly in the green band - I'll take that, though I still do want to go down a bit more to my target to fit into my size 12s.

I've just about had it, though, with people who say 'oh, as soon as you start eating normally you'll put it all back on", as if stuffing your face with carbs (as I might have done before Blush) is 'normal eating'. What about thinking of eating like this - FLGV with protein and fats - becoming the new norm instead? Certainly, from a diabetic viewpoint and, in my opinion, a general health one, it's a much better WOE to maintain a healthy system. Obviously, if you go back to carb overload you will put weight on - it's how we got over-heavy in the first place - and why on earth would anyone want that when they've gone to such efforts to lose it? And why would anyone want to feel that crap again either...? Mystifies me.

Phew.

blackteaplease · 26/02/2018 19:01

Evening all, I am not doing well at this at all. Poor planning and tiredness and and and and insert excuse here have lead to a massive gain this week. I need a wallop with the stick.

Mimosa1 · 26/02/2018 19:19

NSV to report - I am wearing a very stretchy new sweater dress IN A SIZE 12. Grin I'm still a tight 14 / loose 16 in trousers as I'm a classic pear shape but I'm still pleased indeed.

Twoo · 26/02/2018 19:21

Thank you for the new thread BIWI .

1lb 2 down from 10st 11.4lbs to 10st 10.2lbs for me. Did see 10st 9.9 yesterday.

ScreamingValenta · 26/02/2018 19:21

STS Sad again. However, I got into a pair of size 10 trousers at the weekend, so it's not all bad!

ScreamingValenta · 26/02/2018 19:30

@ShagMeRiggins

Thank you for posting that link - really interesting!

I was surprised to find that the calculator said my weight was healthy, contrary to conventional BMI charts which have me as half a stone over the maximum healthy weight for my height.

I don't think it will change my target weight, as I know from experience the weight at which I look and feel my best, but it has cheered me up a bit as my weight is coming down so slowly at the moment that I often feel frustrated.

Well done to everyone who has lost this week - this thread always motivates me - and thank you to BIWI as ever!

Plantlover · 26/02/2018 19:33

I made some low carb brownie.

I used xylitol I bought from tesco.

I wouldn't make them again as they didn't taste sweet at all. They were almost bitter.

Anyone have any tips?

Plantlover · 26/02/2018 19:34

Also can anyone recommend the least bitter dark chocolate?

abbey44 · 26/02/2018 19:39

Plantlover Green & Black's salted caramel dark chocolate is my favourite at the moment...little bursts of salty loveliness. When you only have one square, it's got to deliver, and this one does.

SoMuchToBits · 26/02/2018 19:48

abbey, I totally agree with you. I think when I get to maintenance my strategy will be to stick pretty much to BC lite, with maybe the addition of some slightly carbier veg and occasional legumes. Any other carbs will be an occasional addition for special events. I don't think I'll ever go back to eating sweet things/bread/pasta on a regular basis.

The sad thing is though, stuffing your face with carbs is a normal diet for most people. You only have to look at what people put in their packed lunches/supermarket trolleys etc to see that. And a lot of it is processed crap, not even fresh stuff. LCHF really makes you think about what is in the food you eat.

SoMuchToBits · 26/02/2018 19:49

I was agreeing with your previous post btw, not the chocolate - I haven't tried it! Grin

prettybird · 26/02/2018 20:20

I had leftover (from Saturday night) low carb flourless chocolate lime cake with lime cream tonight, to follow my courgette lasagne (my mum's recipe - in the recipe thread).

The chocolate lime cake must be ok: ds is working his way through the leftovers without realising it is low carb using non-standard sugar Smile (he does however turn his nose up at the courgette lasagne; I make one end with pasta sheets and the other end with courgettes Wink)

Destinysdaughter · 26/02/2018 20:28

Plantlover oh that's a shame! I use Splenda for baking and it's fine. 0.5 gms carbs per teaspoon. Not tried any other sweetness so can't compare the taste but it is nice and sweet and doesn't have any weird aftertaste.

Rshard · 26/02/2018 20:43

Some great nsv’s above!

Today’s food
B - scrambled eggs salmon
L - paella with celeriac rice and spinach
D - bolognaise with courgette spirals

Not enough water, still glugging it but will get there

Almahart · 26/02/2018 20:46

All this support is making me really happy!

I was tempted by a chunk of cheese as a snack but then I thought better of it as I knew I’d have to tell you lot

Was saintly and didn’t have wine with my roast dinner (DH had a glass)

I think this BC has reflected my life in general, a lot of just settling :(

prettybird · 26/02/2018 20:48

Plantlover - I've been using erythritol to replace caster sugar and inulin as a substitute for icing sugar/when it's going to be caramelised. The inulin I sprinkled on top of the chocolate lime cake on Saturday has now dissolved into a sort of glaze. Inulin is apparently also good for gut health.

I need to do a boy more baking with erythritol to experiment: I'm not sure if it's the erythritol or the lime juice and lime zest in the recipe, but there is a "freshness" to the cake - a bit like the tingly freshness you get from toothpaste Confused. It can't be that bad though, given the way ds is working his way through the cake Wink

The lime cream is tasty in its own right: inulin dissolved in lime juice and then whipped together with cream.

I'll post up the recipe once BIWI starts the dessert/baking thread.
