Xin nian kuai le!

Happy Chinese New Year. We're in week 8, and 8 is considered a lucky number in Chinese, so hopefully this week will be a good one for us all Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

A very cold week is ahead of us, so hope you all stay warm and safe

Happy birthday black Mozart hope you had a great day.

Agree on Tom, i was watching one of his diet programs the other day and he used sweet potatoes, I just switched over.!

prettybird · 03/03/2018 18:51

I agree with BIWI Grin I think a lot of his weight loss came from cutting out all the beer he used to drink.

I tend to use TK's recipes as inspiration, rather than following them exactly. The ones I've used so far have annotations all over them Shock (eg crossing out the erythritol for the bread Wink).

TheWayOfTheWorld · 03/03/2018 18:54

We are having Chinese tonight. Does chicken and cashew nuts with stir fried broccoli (and some cauliflower rice) sound ok?

Almahart · 03/03/2018 18:57

Happy birthday mozart!

Had a good day
Breakfast bacon and scrambled egg
Lunch steak and avocado salad
Dinner beef stew and greens

But had three teas with milk and two squares of lc chocolate. Am now drinking a small glass of red

I know we don’t count carbs in this woe, but if Tom Kerridges 90grama is way too high, what are we aiming for? In my head I have it as between 20 and 40?

YoLoHogwomanay · 03/03/2018 19:06

under 50 I think Alma though BIWI can confirm.

I'm reporting in with a carbinge. that would be a binge of the carb variety.
yesterday I craved chocolate. didn't know why. bought some lovely lindt dark choc with nuts and another with salted bits. 2 bars would usually last me 2 weeks or more. I ate half of each bar in one evening Blush . then I came on my period last tonight and all became clear to me!

today I have eaten the other half of 1 bar. and butternut squash crinkle cut chips. it is all well and good recognising triggers for carbinges. another thing altogether preventing them. it's like my hormones are controlling me. godammit. and I've got the rage and tears to look forward to over the next 3 days. Sad

BIWI · 03/03/2018 19:09

It's difficult to give precise carb counts, Alma, because everyone has different levels that they can tolerate.

Dr John Briffa always used to say no more than 100g carbs per day and no more than 30g carbs per meal - but I think that was really for maintaining.

If you think about Atkins induction phase, the most strict, that was 20g carbs per day. So 100g per day is obviously quite a lot!

sorry, in thr midst of my pity and regret party I forgot to say Happy Birthday Blackmozart

SoMuchToBits · 03/03/2018 19:18

Happy birthday BlackMozart!

Work wasn't too busy this morning, so the nurse in charge of our ward decided we could have tea and toast in the middle of the morning. I just had the tea, and the person who had made the toast wondered why I didn't want any. I just said "I don't eat bread." It felt a bit weird saying that, but I guess it's true these days!

BlackMozart · 03/03/2018 19:21

Thank you again to all who have wished me a happy day. I have had one of those for sure!
Nanosecond I think the brownie recipe is the one from Sarah Flower’s book that I mentioned up thread. Happy to post a photo of the recipe on here as I did with the cheese scone one. Hoping that is allowed.

BlackMozart · 03/03/2018 19:32

Here it is. Obviously other low carb brownie recipes are available. 😉
You can just see a picture of the brownie in the corner of the second photo!

Well done somuch 👋

Nan0second · 03/03/2018 19:35

Thanks for that.
I have bought ground almonds, coconut flour and truvia in anticipation of doing some baking at some point, but I am planning to wait until the maintenance phase

SoMuchToBits · 03/03/2018 19:35

BlackMozart, I didn't even think about eating the toast. That's strange, isn't it? A few months ago I wouldn't have hesitated to have some.

BlackMozart · 03/03/2018 19:36

yolo I can so relate to your carbinge. Koko.

Nan0second · 03/03/2018 19:39

thewayoftheworld. What ratio did you replace the almond flour with please?

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 03/03/2018 20:03

BlackMozart happy birthday!
Well done somuch!
If anyone else is bored of courgetti.....
Spiralised swede (sweghetti?!) Fried in butter with salt, black pepper and parmesan is AMAZING. Was also lovely when i tried a bit raw, really sweet!

YoLoHogwomanay · 03/03/2018 20:32

omg all this talk of baking....

I am having cake fantasies now. And French fries cravings. Step away from the chocolate and all the sweet and carbilicious things YoLo. Step. Away.

Gah. going to make yet another creamy coffee to try and deal with this. might fry up some kale in butter. I do love that. or have some babybel crisps.

I'm not even hungry. sod these sodding hormones. Never thought I'd say this but bring on the menopause. Now please!

You lovely PM women here, tell me it all gets better? after it's gotten worse of course Confused

ilovecherries · 03/03/2018 20:39

I'm 60. It's not got better yet. (Gloomy emoji)

BIWI · 03/03/2018 20:44

Have just had a really lovely and satisfying dinner.

Roast pork, with crackling (added water to the roasting pan to make a jus/gravy)
Red cabbage - boiled for about 5 minutes, drained. Finely chopped a nectarine and 2 shallots and then sautéed them in a load of butter, with a couple of chopped garlic cloves, added the cabbage and then braised on a very low heat for around 30 minutes
Swede - diced/boiled until soft, then mashed with lots of butter, a bit of double cream and a tiny amount of chilli flakes
Jus/gravy was delicious

I realise that the nectarine may have been a bit carby, but I added one nectarine to a whole red cabbage, so it made enough for at least 6 people, so not that bad in the great scheme of things

And lunch today was a lovely veg and blue cheese soup:

1 large onion
3 small leeks
2 large carrots
half a head of celery
1 pack tender stem broccoli

2 cloves garlic
150ml double cream
1/2 pack Roquefort blue cheese
1 Knorr chicken stock cube (dissolved in half a litre of water)

All veg sliced via food processor
Added to pressure cooker, and fried/sauteed with a large lump of butter (at least 50g) and a drizzle of olive oil
Seasoned with salt and black pepper, and garlic (using garlic press)

When softened, add the chicken stock and then cook in the pressure cooker for 10 minutes on high.

Once the pressure is low enough to open the cooker, add the cream and the cheese, check for seasoning (you may need to add more salt and pepper at this point) and heat until the cheese has melted.

If I'd been shopping beforehand, I would have used shallots, but I didn't have any!

I thought I'd try one of the Lidl protein rolls. Went there but couldn't see any protein rolls - not even any labels for them, but there was a low GI roll. I thought that it might be the same thing but just labelled differently (I'm in NI, so thought there may be a difference). Checked Lidl website, and nothing about low GI rolls, so was even more convinced this was some local labelling issue peculiar to NI.

Ate it, with lots of butter. It was very nice. Further googling reveals that it is something different, and had 39g carb per roll. FFS.

Almahart · 03/03/2018 21:18

Hmmmm. What did it look like? I think mine were low GI rolls too. Would explain weight gain today if so

Almahart · 03/03/2018 21:19

Was it round or triangular?

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2018 21:20

39grama in one roll! Wow that's really high isn't it. I'm not even sure any more. I think we are so used to looking at low carb things that normal stuff seems high,

I wouldn't worry about it, it's just a one off.
