Morning all!

We have four weeks left; time, still, to lose at least another 4lbs or so

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hopefully some good results to report!

I'm really busy this week so lurking rather than posting.
Just having lunch in Pret. Delicious crayfish & avocado salad and then the result of spotting that they offer free whipped cream. Given their black coffees are only 99p, that's a low carb result! A quick look at Sainsburys website shows Anchor squirty cream is 7.3g per 100g or 0.9g per 12.5g serving.

headoutofthesand · 22/02/2018 12:32

Sorry - very rude of me - I meant to pass my sympathies to Athel & congrats to those celebrating successes whether SV, NSV or DC related.
I've forgotten who posted about their DD being in squad swimming age 5 but it made me chuckle. DS is 5 and tries his best in his swim lessons but I've always got an eye on the life guard in case he mistakes DS' attempts at front crawl as drowning.

SoMuchToBits · 22/02/2018 13:18

The pesky carber crumbs made me laugh too! I have decided when ds goes off to uni in a year and a half I'll put the toaster away, as I no longer have any use for it myself. Grin

Yesterday a friend (who didn't know I'd been low carbing) commented that I looked as if I had lost weight - result!

BIWI · 22/02/2018 13:39

@plantlover - on holiday it depends! Earlier this year I was in Oz, and I ate what I wanted, which included carby stuff. I knew it would result in weight gain, but that was fine. It was the downside of 'relaxing'.

When I got back, I went straight on the wagon, and also re-introduced 16:8 (essentially just missing breakfast). I also had a 10 day alcohol-free period. (It should have been the whole of February but I was crap Blush).

It's entirely up to you how you manage things - but if all you do when you're away, or when Bootcamp is finished, is go back to your former high carb way of eating, then you will put weight on.

You need to find out how many carbs, on a daily basis, you can tolerate. The only way to do that is to experiment. Once you get to your desired weight, gradually introduce more carbs, until you start to put weight on again.

I might adopt the phrase pesky carber - love it!

It’s me with the swimmer head, bless your ds - great life skill I reckon.

perpetuallybewildered · 22/02/2018 14:22

TimeIhadaNameChange thanks for the much needed encouragement. I will indeed KOKO. Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 22/02/2018 16:52

My pleasure, perpetually.

If you're anything like me you'll find that, as well as your weight, your body shape also changes in fits and starts. I bemused one BC last year when my stomach suddenly disappeared. Not that I got a flat stomach overnight (still have a way to go for that to happen!) but one day I put my hand down on my belly without thinking, to discover it was no longer there! It seemed to have noticeably shrunk from one day to the next. This was amusing as I then spent the rest of the day randomly groping myself in wonder, as it were, the thought of which tickled one or two of the other Bootcampers!

Bizarrely, a similar thing has happened this week. I've moved offices, and the nearest toilets are ones where the sink is in with the loo, which means, there's a huge mirror right next to the toilet. I haven't seen my semi-naked self so much as I have recently! It's normally not a pleasant picture, but yesterday I noticed that I was slimmer, and whilst I'm not yet 'slim' in my eyes I have concluded I am no longer fat. This was not the case on Tuesday.

ShagMeRiggins · 22/02/2018 17:04

I then spent the rest of the day randomly groping myself in wonder

I remember that!! Grin

Nice to have caused a few smiles over Pesky Carbers. I suppose it’s how I think of them, what with wanting their bread and pasta and rice and bagels and crisps. These days I look at those items as Flavour Delivery Systems that I no longer use.

As for the puddings—sweet stuff has never been my thing so I don’t really mind buying ice cream or biscuits for the others. They’re eating more my WoE than they realise, and that suits me fine. Also, because they’re all in a healthy BMI, I’m not worried about breeding bad habits.

I’ve gone against all advice regarding passing on weight issues to your children and actually talk with them about what I’m doing, why it’s right for me, and what my reasons are for choosing LCHF.

In other words—to paraphrase Matt Damon in The Martian—I science the shit out of them.

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2018 17:38

Thanks for the fried chicken advice, I've tried them a few ways, frying them first and then baking them. They taste fine but the coating always comes away from the skin, I've dipped them in egg first, but the same thing hing happens! I'll try just baking them tonight...

prettybird · 22/02/2018 17:55

I'm not sure skin-on chicken will work with just the "crumb" coating and egg - even if you bake it. I have a fear you will still have the same problem.

I wonder if you need to marinade them in yoghurt and then sprinkle the Parmesan/almonds/flaxseed on the sticky yoghurty chicken so that it sort of melds together and then bake it until crispy.

prettybird · 22/02/2018 18:01

....the one yoghurty recipe (which has chopped chillis, ginger if I recall correctly and lemon/lime also iirc mixed into the yoghurt), I also slash the chicken pieces through the chicken skin.

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2018 18:05

I have marinated it in yoghurt but I'll try slashing the skin, thanks for the tip! 😀

abbey44 · 22/02/2018 19:38

Evening. Cutting the dairy seems to be doing the trick so I'm hoping to get back on track again and see some podge gone by Monday.

Some really good news - and nothing at all to do with losing weight - I heard from the cruise company last night that someone's dropped out of the dinner with James Martin and would I like to take it up? What a daft question - I didn't hang around (learned my lesson) and booked it smartish. How fab is that? There'll be 14 of us having a demonstration with him, and then sitting down to eat what he's just cooked. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it...

It'a done wonders for my motivation Grin

BlackMozart · 22/02/2018 20:00

Lucky abbey44 😉

Destiny’s I think if I was eating skin-on chicken I wouldn’t try and put a coating on it. I’m not sure how it can get crispy unless it is in contact with hot fat? But maybe there will be a way...I think you could stuff something under the skin and then fry it. Maybe Boursin cheese or garlic and herb butter perhaps?

BlackMozart · 22/02/2018 20:08

shagmeriggins I talk to my kids (well at 22, 18, and 10 two of them aren’t kids anymore) about what I am doing diet wise and why - always have. As a consequence they are pretty well adjusted when it comes to food and body confident too. All of them wander around the house in their underwear something I would never have felt confident to do. Maybe one day...!!

abbey44 · 22/02/2018 20:24

You could maybe cook the chicken skin separately - like they do on Masterchef? I know it won't be anything like a KFC, but you'd have the tasty chicken and crispy skin, which has to be better than bits of coating everywhere and flabby chicken skin...

prettybird · 22/02/2018 20:29

That's such a brilliant idea abbey44 StarSmile

Mimosa1 · 22/02/2018 20:31

Aargh I know not to count calories on this diet but I've just eaten a (delicious) pot of prawn cocktail - 5.4g of carbs for the lot BUT 700k (!)

I'm a bit upset because my weight has fluctuated back above a healthy BMI but hopefully it's period related.

Twoo · 22/02/2018 20:58

Abbey44 I’ll trade you carb free delights for James Martin experience Grin

abbey44 · 22/02/2018 21:28

Hmmm, that's an interesting offer Twoo.....er, no thanks though Grin

Twoo · 22/02/2018 21:44

I’m so envious Abbey44. Can we have a blow by blow account of your encounter please 🙏

Plantlover · 22/02/2018 22:15

Mimosa1

I ate cheese sandwich filler today. It was a 160 gram pot had had nearly 900 calories in it! The carb count was very low though. It was from B&m.

Plantlover · 22/02/2018 22:17

Hilow and BIWI

You both gave the same wise advice!

Thankyou both.

Plantlover · 22/02/2018 22:32

BIWI

Do you not struggle to get back on the low carbing?

If I have carbs I really find it difficult not to want more and more and more! They really seem to affect my brain!

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2018 22:50

Another greasy not cooked properly fried chicken disaster tonight, that's 3 nights in a row! Think I'm going to try the chicken nuggets as suggested previously next time...Sad
