Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

Oh, and the other thing about coffee...

... I think it was last week that I was complaining about rotting badger breath - well, that has thankfully subsided except for when/just after I'm drinking coffee. Which is beginning to taste a bit nasty.

If it's because my tastebuds are becoming more sensitive, then can anyone recommend a really nice tasting instant? (I'm sure as can be that I am not going to faff around making real coffee in the morning).

I tried buying a hazelnut flavoured one, but the smell when I opened it was so chemical that I only tried it once, and it did not taste anything like as 'good' as it smelled. Which was foul.

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 15:08

I can only drink Nescafe (sorry) Espresso instant.

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 15:09

Having said I had a lovely lunch, I now have terrible diarrhoea(tmi sorry) and feel shaky and weird Sad

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2018 15:11

ooooooooh, that's not good, Scabbers. Your chicken was beyond reproach, was it? Not a bit too leftover?

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 15:17

I hope not Shock

It was raw, I bought it on Saturday, I THINK I cooked it enough...

abbey44 · 05/02/2018 15:25

Ooh Scabbersley that sounds nasty - hope you feel better very soon.

Athelstane - have you tried Percol Americano instant coffee? I do like my fresh coffee but can't always be arsed to make it and this is the nearest I've found in a jar. It's lovely, has that 'just-brewed' taste.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2018 15:33

Well, Scabbers, one of the things I became sensitive to after a few weeks on this diet was eggs... began to make me a bit squirty and nauseous. Since I only ever seem to appear on this thread telling people what I've had to give up, I'm NOT going to say that this time - it's more than possible there was a germ-something of some sort on one of your ingredients and it's a one off.

On the plus side, hooray for your body identifying it and getting rid of it sharpish! Well done Body Grin

Thanks, Abbey! I'll have a look for that tomorrow. I'm not giving anything else up .

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 15:46

Oh god I hope its not eggs?? I think it must be a bug surely? It's happened really quickly!

velocitykate · 05/02/2018 16:03

Well done everyone on your weight loss. It's too early for me to weigh because I only started on Saturday. However, I do have ++ketones in my wee on testing - Is this ok for day three?

I have done another 5k run today and have eaten
B 2 egg muffins with pepperoni and smoked cheese
L Smoked mackerel and avocado with full fat mayonnaise
S Pork scratchings
D Will probably be salmon with Caesar salad (minus the croutons and possibly minus the dressing if it has too many carbs!)

LeapinLizards · 05/02/2018 16:11

I only ever have real coffee - can't stand instant coffee - and only a couple of mugs in the morning. I have had it with almond milk but find it's too strong-tasting or I need so much almond milk that it's lukewarm.

GailLondon I'm heartened to hear that you're able to run while LCing. I'm hoping to get back to it and wondered if it would be ok on this WOE.

scabbersely hope you feel better soon. That sounds horrid.

prettybird · 05/02/2018 16:54

Also meant to welcome back BIWI to her rightful place as the Big Stick Wielder (although she did a pretty good job at wrenching it off Beryl and I when we were too forgiving not being strict enough Grin) I enjoyed my 2 weeks at the helm as it helped keep me to the straight and narrow still sticking my head in the sand about the consequences of not following the "in moderation" rules of Boot Camp Lite once I'd handed the Big Stick over to Beryl Blush and Beryl did a fantastic and thoughtful job in her 2 weeks FlowersStar

I'm coping well with Dry February. Managed to abstain last night when dh opened a bottle of good South African Chenin to go with the roast chicken (and to celebrate the success of our U16 rugby team). My fellow Boot Camper from along the road, who was eating with us, also abstained, and my dad was driving, so only had a glass and a half. (Dh was a bit slow getting going this morning Wink). He's now said he's not going to drink for a month - which will get me through Valentine's Day without a planned and mindful excursion from abstinence giving in to wine Grin

StuntNun · 05/02/2018 16:55

Nekobus soya milk is fine so long as it's low carb. The Paleo crowd don't do soya but it isn't specifically restricted on Bootcamp. Just be aware that it a very processed food.

mickeymacca · 05/02/2018 17:07

Hi everyone hoping to join you all once I've figured out the spreadsheet.. I started 1st Jan and have only lost 5lbs...i have a feeling I'm eating too many nuts and too much cream. Does anyone else find that cream slows down weight loss? Thanks

DakotaFanny · 05/02/2018 17:25

Some great losses and nsvs, well done all.

YoLoHogwomanay · 05/02/2018 17:26

Athel 3 spoons of instant??? Shock

I can recommend Beanies instant coffee. l
Lots of flavours or I think the do plain. Buy it online.

And Oatly do a single cream made of oatmilk if you want an alternative to dairy cream. Or I can recommend coconut cream. It tastes of coconut a lot but I like that. Or you can whisk up a bulletproof coffee with coconut oil.

YoLoHogwomanay · 05/02/2018 17:31

scabbers I have found that too. On the odd occasion when the least worst option was a milky latte (just can't stomach black) I have felt shit after. Bloated, sluggish and a bit sick. Definitely not worth it.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 05/02/2018 17:37

Another instant drinker here, I like Douwe Egberts' continental blend.

I was out at a cafe today and they didn't do pouring cream Shock. I had an Americanism with almond milk and it was rank Envy

TheWayOfTheWorld · 05/02/2018 17:38

Americano even Grin

BerylStreep · 05/02/2018 17:50

Hello to a new week! I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow.

Twoo, Rshard, FiveTwoFaster (FiveTwo - you don’t have a weight in for last week), I have added you to the spreadsheet.

Lisbapalea – I was watching a thing on youtube the other day about how to avoid double chins in photos. Basically you really lean your head forward and chin down. I’ve tried it – it works! link

Nekobus – some of the stuff I have read says that soya acts as a phyto-oestrogen and can mess up the hormonal balance of your body. I know when I started having soya lattes last year when Buttermint stopped being made, I piled on 10 kilos. It may have been to do with the calories as I was having lattes, but it could be something to do with the hormonal disruption. I have almond milk with a dash of cream whizzed up in the frother. It’s delicious.

Scabbers – 2 broken teeth & now the runs. It’s just not a great week for you, is it?

I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself so far for dry February. Collected my Seedlip today - will report later.

BerylStreep · 05/02/2018 18:08

Food for today:

B: Bacon & egg muffin (these are delicious!) and coffee with almond milk & cream
L: Attempt at 3 slices of parma ham, but mouth frozen from dentist so couldn't chew. Ended up having a lidl pot of yoghurt & small punnet of raspberries.
S: 2 more of the bacon & egg muffins Blush and another coffee
D: probably steak & celeriac dauphinoise.

W: 1 cup buttermint tea, and making progress with water

nekobus · 05/02/2018 18:10

Thanks stunt and beryl I might try a week or two without soya milk, I don't mind the almond it just takes more to get the tea colour I like and then it's too cold!

I'm having a dry-ish February, or at least 28 days dry - no booze since 27th Jan and before that night I was dry from 1st Jan, but I'd like to have a planned drink at an event just before the end of Feb so not proper dry Feb.

Really hope you like the seedlip Beryl it seems to divide us like marmite but I love it.

ASDismynormality · 05/02/2018 18:26

I just want to say a huge thank you to who ever recommended butter mint tea, it’s amazing!

AveAtqueVale · 05/02/2018 18:46

What can I do with pork belly strips tonight? Never cooked it before and I’m severely lacking inspiration and energy. I also have diced lamb but I quite want to make a curry with that and that is definitely beyond me this evening...

ASDismynormality · 05/02/2018 18:50

AveAtqueVale. I have an air fryer which I cooked my pork belly strips in tonight, sometimes I shallow fry them. I had it with cauliflower rice and hot sauce.

YoLoHogwomanay · 05/02/2018 19:02

ave season and chuck in oven. serve with FLGV. Simples!
