Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

SoMuchToBits I don't think it makes any difference. When I had my first attack 2 years ago I was lc as well as wheat and dairy free. I went to a dietitian last summer and she put me on to fodmap, but by that stage my flare had passed. Fodmap didn't make an ounce of difference to my weight.

It's strange that it's appeared each Feb, lasted 4 months, then not a peep for the rest of the year.

SoMuchToBits · 11/02/2018 20:24

Beryl, it might be worth having a look to see if there's any food item which is in season between Feb and May, to see if it's something specific (other than dairy/gluten) which could be setting it off. Otherwise, it's a bit of a mystery! Confused

Rshard · 11/02/2018 20:25

Thanks abbey and thewayoftheworld for the birthday wishes. Had a lovely day, thanks.

I’m definitely trying one of those pancake recipes gail and wayoftheworld. Pancakes are made weekly in this house, I have bought a new pancake flipper today as the old one broke!

Today’s food
B - salmon and scrambled eggs
L - ff yoghurt and berries (still full from late breakfast)
D - bolognaise and courgette
Glass of wine.

Giving up alcohol for lent

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 11/02/2018 20:55

Somuch, thanks, but it wouldn't, I don't like either cooked tomato or buttered green veg. I normally have spinach in my morning omelette but it doesn't seem buttery when covered in egg.

BrassicaBabe · 11/02/2018 21:02

Don't know what's wrong with me tonight; I just want to eat. I am definitely not hungry either! Sad

TerfsUp · 11/02/2018 21:22

BrassicaBabe, I was that way yesterday. Today is better, though.

BlackMozart · 11/02/2018 21:25

BIWI that tax error is unbelievable. You could have a heart attack getting a wrong bill like that!
Athelstane was it you talking about Callanetics? I have remembered I used to do it and I loved it. It also really worked. This is going back about 25 years I reckon! I must have a look and see if there are any dvd’s of Callan Pickney’s exercise stuff.
Prettybird those adaptations to the coffee and walnut cake sound good. I’m not sure whether I should make it but feel like it would be good to have something else frozen in slices for emergencies.
Rshard lovely to hear you had a great birthday and stayed on the woe. Well done you!
I’m sure there was something else I wanted to say but I’ve forgotten what it was! 😊

TheWayOfTheWorld · 11/02/2018 21:31

Today's food:
B: none, had a lovely lie-in
L: creamy coffee, 2 rashers bacon, mushrooms and fried egg
D: chicken coated in almond flour and fried in butter on cauliflower rice with katsu sauce (absolutely lovely!); small glass red wine
S: 2 squares dark chocolate, some extra thick cream, babybel, one Parmesan/ rosemary biscuit
W: 3 litres

BlackMozart · 11/02/2018 21:35

I know what it was. I am getting on well with coconut milk in my coffee. I remembered Scabbersley saying that it took a while to get used to almond milk but now it’s fine and the same is true for me. Thank you Scabbersley!
I also made myself an emergency pud this evening of 25g of dark choc (8g because it was a 70% bar) melted with about 20g sea salt butter and then stirred and refrigerated. Topped with 2 teaspoons of coconut yoghurt a pinch of vanilla and a pinch of cacao nibs. My only other carbs today were in 3 cups of coffee and my leeks/swede/broccoli with dinner so hoping it was ok but it hit the spot when I was about to descend into a carby moment.

BumbleBeef30 · 11/02/2018 21:47

B courgette
L beef burger with cheese, tomato, lettuce, cucumber, avocado smash
D courgette, onion, mushroom, chicken and goats’ cheese all heated up together
W 3.5 litres!

BlackMozart · 11/02/2018 21:54

so there are loads of Callanetics dvd’s on Amazon! Athelstane* do you have a recommendation? I am leaning towards the newer Callanetics Countdown as that is in three sections and builds up to the full 60 minutes.

BlackMozart · 11/02/2018 22:30

Wasn’t aiming for all that bold type...

prettybird · 11/02/2018 22:44

I can remember my mum and I doing Callanetics from a magazine article nearly 39 years ago! ShockBlush I can time it because I remember taking a photocopy with me to a Russian course I had to do as part of my Uni degree at the University of East Anglia in the summer of 1979 (the summer of the green flies Shock).

Had a lovely low carb meal (and no alcohol Grin) tonight: roast lamb, buttery microwaved asparagus, buttery microwaved baby sweet corn, buttery fried thinly sliced leeks (the only reason we didn't have the BootCamp staple buttery brussels is that my dad hates brassicas in all forms), followed by the tiramisu.

The tiramisu was lovely - but we agreed the portion sizes were too large and that next time I should make it in a single large glass bowl (which would also help with the melding of the tiramisu layers) from which to decant small portions. It also can't be layered as many times as Tom Kerridge's recipe says (ie twice, not 4 times Confused) .

GrandOldDukeofPorkiness - is it worth trying to find a seamstress to alter some of your better clothes?

MumOfAPickle · 11/02/2018 23:28

Today's food:
B: 2 poached eggs on buttered spinach
L: chicken thighs with salad
D: chicken casserole with broccoli
S: pork scratchings, choc truffles with raspberries & cream

Better today I think, good luck with weigh ins in the morning everyone x

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/02/2018 06:15

Morning!

BlackMozart, yes, it was me droning on about Callanetics. I remember being amazed it actually worked for so little time and effort - there's something she says in the preamble in the book along the lines of "and if you do lose 1lb it will look like 2" which has stuck with me Because It's True Shock.

Weighed this morning and I am the EXACT same weight I have been every morning for the last 27 days. Which is getting a bit wearing Hmm. I would almost celebrate going up a lb right now, just to see some movement!

Re HMRC, I also received a you-have-not-paid corporation tax letter a few weeks ago, for an amount I'd paid back in December. Most unusually, I 'phoned them up, got through, and they transferred the payment to the right reference within minutes, cheerfully, and it was all very pleasant Confused.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/02/2018 06:17

ah, missed the question, sorry! I just have an old hardback book I got years ago - I've not looked at these 'ere newfangled movin' pictures with sounds.

Nan0second · 12/02/2018 06:38

Night at friends house was hard. They cooked a pasta dish (yes I had warned them) so I ended up eating maybe 2 tablespoons of pasta with some chicken and salad. Managed to decline pudding.
I was really disappointed though as I felt totally thwarted (and out of ketosis)
Anyway, yesterday was better in that I was back totally in plan.
Not expecting any scales movement at weigh in today though (week 4) but will be very annoyed if they’ve increased.
I too am off almost all alcohol which is actually really helping me mood wise.

Half a pound off this week, quite happy with that as it's TOTM.
Good luck to everyone today,
