Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

Here's the recipe for the savoury almond flour biscuits I made, they're v yummy!

Have been mostly sabotaging myself with alcohol this bootcamp. Lost four pounds in the first couple of weeks and nothing since. I think I am swithering between wanting to maintain and wanting to lose more as I am now at the weight I set myself as my goal, but actually if I'm honest with myself I have got more to go.

This BC my relationship with alcohol has REALLY come to the fore, but I am going to choose BC over alcohol and set myself the realistic goal of doing 7 days alcohol free. The secret plan, which I am not telling myself is that after the 7 days I will extend it Wink. With that in mind and back on strict BC I would hope to lose another pound or two by next Monday

This mornings breakfast was a cold sausage and some left over frittata.

I was getting a bit complacent about milk in coffee and eating too much dark chocolate - but hey ho we're half way through and if I could lose an average of a pound a week for the last five weeks I would be thrilled

GailLondon · 06/02/2018 08:53

Wow! Just filled in the spreadsheet. Between this bootcamp and the last one, I've lost 12% of my bodyweight!
All those little half a pounds off here and there start to feel significant when you take a step back and realise how far you have come!

Mimosa1 · 06/02/2018 09:08

That's really inspiring @GailLondon - well done you!

I've been having a bit of slippage so writing out my goals.

72.1 - 25 BMI

71k - weight I was pre baby

70k - weight just after I got married

68k - weight for most of school and my goal for now, but...

63k - weight when I moved in with now DH and we started eating and drinking a lot while we were dating - treating every meal like a special occasion.

I expect weight loss will slow eventually and I'll have to add in some exercise too which would be a good thing in its own right. For now though, I'm
Focused on that BMI number.

YoLoHogwomanay · 06/02/2018 09:08

great post Gail so true

Rshard · 06/02/2018 09:19

So impressive gail, well done you!

Thanks always for the recipe link

I think mini goals are really useful mimosa, definitely keep me on track

Good plan alma, don’t forget we’re all hear to hold your hand/talk you away from the alcohol/wield the big stick!

Cherrypi · 06/02/2018 09:24

Morning all. I have been dabbling in other weight loss methods since Christmas and nothing works as well as low carb bootcamp for me. I just end up bingeing on biscuits. So back on it today. Love the reorganised recipe threads. So much inspiration there. Thanks Biwi.

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 06/02/2018 09:36

Morning, all!

Thanks for the recipe link, Alwaysinmyheart. Those biscuits look amazing.

I had a weight blip over the weekend - I think I've taken to heart a little too much the need for dietary fat - and so have cut down a bit and am feeling less bloated.

Scabbersley · 06/02/2018 09:39

Morning. Dentist this morning and dreading the cost. Tummy better but not completely

GailLondon · 06/02/2018 09:41

Good luck Mimosa, it will feel so good to start hitting the 'green' zone on the BMI charts!
I think mini-goals are great, definitely feel more acheivable.

I'm only 1lb away from my next mini goal target of 10st7. My reward is going to be a new eyeshadow palette that I've been wanting for a while. So I'm also helping keep my shopping addiction a bit under control by saying I can't buy a certain item until I reach a set weight. Its win-win!

Twoo · 06/02/2018 10:36

Gail. Well done on losing 12% of your body weight. Does the sof say that or have you worked it out yourself?

I can’t see mine on there ... I wonder what it is. I’m not brilliant at sums but I think in total I might have lost about 10% (since beginning dec’).

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 06/02/2018 10:47

Scabbersley, I sympathise. Would you mind letting me know how much the dentist's bill will be? I broke a back molar a couple of days ago and am avoiding going to the dentist until my finances improve.

Thank you!

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 06/02/2018 10:48

Oh! And well done, you losers! Grin

GailLondon · 06/02/2018 10:56

Twoo yes the spreadsheet does tell you your percentage lost so far, look in column 'S' of the spreadsheet for your value this week.
I was happy to see mine was already at 2.2% for this bootcamp despite me thinking I hadn't done very well so I went back and worked out my overall value.

Just scrolled down the spreadsheet to look at your value Twoo, you are on 4.2% since the start of this bootcamp! Thats fabulous work for only 4 weeks!

ilovecherries · 06/02/2018 11:54

Very embarrassingly, I have lost well over a quarter of my body weight since I started. I'm aiming for a third.

lisbapalea · 06/02/2018 11:55

Wow - that really is great Gail - good work!

And it's so true that this woe really does work. I weighed again this morning and have lost another lb, although I won't celebrate until I see that it's stayed off over the week.

I am feeling so pleased to have stuck to it since Jan 1st and am looking forward to being a bit more positive about summer clothes this year that I was last year. Hopefully I might actually be able to contemplate baring my arms and legs (that is on the assumption that we actually get a warm summer of course....).

Today's food:
B - berries, greek yog and flax + coffee with cream
Snack - 4 brazil nuts
L - mozzarella and parma ham salad
D - TBC, prob an omelette with salad or homemade coleslaw?

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 06/02/2018 12:13

ilovecherries - that is amazing!

Rshard · 06/02/2018 12:20

An excellent statistic ilovecherries

nekobus · 06/02/2018 12:52

Well done Gail and cherries, excellent stats.

I had a hankering for almond crackers after reading your link always but didn't have Parmesan, so I've just made the sour cream and chive ones from the veggie recipe thread (near the end) they were fab! I might do them thicker next time as they broke as I loaded them with LC pate.

Twoo · 06/02/2018 13:20

Gail Thank you for working my % for this bootcamp. Since I started cleaner I’ve lost nearly a stone (started end of 2017). Would a stone off 11.5 stone be just under 10% do you think?

Cherries it’s great to read that long term this woe works! You’ve done fabulously! I love a bit of number crunching Grin

BIWI · 06/02/2018 13:33

Welcome back @Cherrypi

What was it that prompted you to try other methods? And what did you try/why do you think they didn't work - really interested to see what your experiences were (apart from the biscuits!)

thanks for the comments re the recipe threads. I haven't quite finished - I have two more to do, fish and sweet things, which hopefully I'll get round to this weekend

GailLondon · 06/02/2018 13:37

Twoo a 14lb loss from a starting weight of 161lbs (11 and a half stone) comes out at 8.7%. Good job!

SoMuchToBits · 06/02/2018 13:45

always, those crackers look great! I might try to make some. They look like they might be nice with cheese and/or pâté.

I have been for a health check this morning at my GP surgery (a routine check that was offered). I had blood tests before hand, and my cholesterol has come back very high. I've never had my cholesterol tested before, so I don't have any comparison of what it was before I started low carbing.

Interestingly, my total cholesterol was high (8.26), but my HDL (which should be > 1.2) was 2.96, and my total cholesterol:HDL ratio (which should be < 4) was 2.79. This ratio (and it says on the info I was given that this is the important result) is very good, but they are concerned because my total cholesterol is higher than it should be.

What does everyone make of this? Confused

Also, the message I was getting regarding diet was 1) avoid processed foods (good), 2) eat plenty of fruit and veg (good, but in my case it's almost all veg), 3) don't eat much red meat (hmm), 4) don't eat many eggs Shock, 5) avoid saturated fats (Hahaha Grin)

Kleptronic · 06/02/2018 13:53

I'm the same SoMuch although my totals are 6 something. I've knocked the belly pork on the head and replaced it with salmon/mackerel as per StuntNun's wise words.

Twoo · 06/02/2018 13:58

Thank you Gail’. I’m so pleased with myself.

I’ve had a lot on last 18 months:- Spinal injury, major surgery, disability, loss of job, 2 house moves, & 4 very close family deaths. It’s been a tsunami of misery, stress & grief. Only now do I feel I’ve recovered enough equilibrium to focus on myself for a bit. And I ain’t going to stop until I reach Goal Grin.
