Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

I had just come on here to ask the same CointreauVersial, it would be good to have some pancakes on Tuesday Smile

Thank you for the recommendation of the boullion, I didn't wake up in the middle of the night feeling thirsty and feel much better today for a more normal nights sleep.

B: Half and avocardo, scambled eggs in butter and some mayo
S: Pork scratchings
L: Rocket with half an avocardo, cheese, two eggs and mayo
D: Slow cooler coconut and ginger belly pork (it's smelling very good!) with courgetti.

Have drunk about 2.5 litres of water so far, is herbal or fruit tea allowed at all? I'm really missing it!

CointreauVersial · 11/02/2018 16:37

I'm pretty sure herbal tea is allowed (I drink loads!)

TheWayOfTheWorld · 11/02/2018 16:47

I use this recipe for low carb pancakes: sounds weird but works well

I’m up for pancake on Tuesday! I am planning to try this recipe as it is supposedly perfect keto macros: 75%fat, 20%protein , 5% carbs. It’s also a cream cheese one and has lots of butter plus a scoop of protein powder which I do have lying around already.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 11/02/2018 16:50

The thing is, I had eggs, bacon and mushrooms, all of which are delicious, but without some bread to mop up the grease and egg yolk it just tasted greasy and unsatisfying.

GailLondon · 11/02/2018 16:50

I’d love to see photos of everyone’s pancakes when you make them!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 11/02/2018 16:51

Sorry, that was to Cointreauversial, missed a few posts.

BIWI · 11/02/2018 16:52

@Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es. You really do have to re-set your mind about these things!

I'm really trying BIWI, but it's just not happening. Same in the pub the other night, I had a naked burger (cheese and avocado on salad). It SO badly needed a bun and some ketchup, I couldn't finish it.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 11/02/2018 17:03

The thing is, I can cut out most of the carbs, half a slice of bread would have done with the fry-up, or a few bites of bun and a smear of ketchup with a burger, but none at all is SO unappetising. Sorry, I'm grumpy as I'm sitting here trying to meal plan with fussy family and no one can agree on anything.

BIWI · 11/02/2018 17:04

You need to LTBs Grin

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 11/02/2018 17:05

I just threatened that Grin. They all ignored me.

BerylStreep · 11/02/2018 17:14

Does LTB stand for leave the bread?

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 11/02/2018 17:18

Those pancakes look fab, Gail, thanks for posting! I wonder where to get the powder from?

Happy birthday Rshard - hope you're having a good one Flowers

I got back earlier from taking the dogs on a long beach walk - it was what you might call a bit bracing with an icy wind straight from Siberia. One of those walks where you have to just grit your teeth and get through it, but you're very glad you've made the effort afterwards.

I've discovered the joys of a mug of chicken stock with a spoonful of cream in - tastes utterly delicious and lovely when you've been out in the cold.

Keeping on as usual with the food - omelettes, scrambled eggs, and FLGV in various forms - and feeling quite focused now. Scales (touch wood for tomorrow) seem to be showing the results, too. I've sorted out my wardrobe and the pile of stuff that's too big now is getting larger, which is good, but my size isn't diminishing as fast as I'd like - patience isn't one of my qualities, clearly Grin Still, I've got another five weeks before I go away, so...

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 11/02/2018 17:22

Oh WayoftheWorld yours are even easier! Wow, can't believe cream cheese and egg makes pancakes! Definitely going to have a go this week.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 11/02/2018 18:05

Happy birthday Rshard!

I am making the rosemary and Parmesan savoury biscuits at the moment - they certainly smell good! I am tempted to make some pancakes for pudding this evening...

I took one of the DC to a party today and avoided the (delicious looking) choc birthday cake being handed out. The hosting mum insisted I take some, so I wrapped up in the napkin and squirreled it away in my bag - DC can share it Grin

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 11/02/2018 18:50

B coffee, a few slices of ham wrapped round basil leaves
L lamb chops
S 2 x coffee with coconut cream
D mug of Tesco’s Thai chicken soup, which is unexpectedly low carb - 2.2g / 100g.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 11/02/2018 18:54

Checking back in to say that against all the odds I managed to produce a dinner from cupboard and freezer that the family all liked while consuming minimal carbs myself, so feeling less grumpy now. It wasn't very high in fat though so I'll probably need some cheese later.

AuntTrotwood · 11/02/2018 18:56

Roast pork with cheesy leeks and savoy cabbage cooking!

DakotaFanny · 11/02/2018 19:03

Evening all- hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.

Someone lent me this book today- it’s amazing and Tom Kerridge is a low carb inspiration!

The cream cheese pancakes are lovely. A bit like egg custard. I like cinnamon on mine. They are tricky to toss though.

Maybe I need to stop finding ways to cheer myself up quickly and just experience the sadness a bit. I need to commit 100% percent to low carb else it just doesn't work for me. Hoping lent will give an extra layer of motivation to stop shovelling in the cake and biscuits.

BerylStreep · 11/02/2018 19:46

Food for today:

B. Sausage, 3 streaky bacon, fried cherry tomatoes, fried egg

L. Crunchy salad with radish, celery and stuff. Cucumber, tomato and ham with mustard mayo

S. Some ham and cheddar

D. Celeriac dauphinois and steak

3 coffees with almond milk

I think my ulcerative colitis might be flaring. Ive had flares start in each of the last 2 Februarys and they have each lasted about 4 months. Fingers crossed it's not

SoMuchToBits · 11/02/2018 19:46

Wh0Knows, I find adding in a small tomato and some wilted spinach helps the fry-up (bacon, egg and mushroom) from becoming too full-on greasy. It kind of freshens it up a bit. I don't know if that would work for you?

SoMuchToBits · 11/02/2018 19:49

Sorry to hear that, Beryl - do you find that low carbing helps your ulcerative colitis, or does it not make much difference?
