Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

Menu today :

B: fasting Sad (I'm starving)
L: fried cabbage with cheese. Avocado. Maybe some mince in the cabbage if there is some left, I can't remember.
D: eggs of some description

TheWayOfTheWorld · 05/02/2018 12:02

Scabbersley should you be fasting if it makes you feel so hungry?

Today's food:
B: 2 sausages and a creamy coffee
L: chilli with celeriac rice
D: TBC

FiveTwoFaster · 05/02/2018 12:04

Weighing in - 189.6 (that .6 matters as it’s not much down but a little). If someone could make a note on the spreadsheet i’d Be grateful.

Not really been active much but I have made good choices for the most part and kept my water intake up to a reasonable level. That’s what I find the hardest.

here’s hoping for a 1lb loss (minimum...) this time next week!

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 12:07

Scabbersley should you be fasting if it makes you feel so hungry?

It doesn't normally. I do like to do it twice a week, keeps me on the straight and narrow! Usually Monday and Wednesday. I drink lots of water and coffee with almond milk

mrsglowglow · 05/02/2018 12:12

Morning all, a 2.2lb loss for me this week. I happy with that. I ate and drank v low carb all week apart from yesterday at Nandos. 2 large glasses of wine and a side of sweet potato wedges. I didn't eat my roll though and had just a taste of husbands desert. We did walk alot after so hoping not too much damage done!

LeapinLizards · 05/02/2018 12:39

Hello all, I'm back after taking a break for a week - break from the thread rather than BC. I had been feeling on the brink of giving up after I seemed to be putting on and, sadly, found it harder to shake off the doubt than Athelstane who was also in a grump that day.

I took the advice and cut the dairy waaaay back, which has helped - the scales are now moving downwards. Hallelujah! But, to do it, I had to grit my teeth and put my head down and avoid reading everyone else's posts of tasty-sounding menus - that felt like torture Grin.

Also one of the dry February-ers and that's going well too. Not even tempted. These dedicated months of abstinence work well for me because it removes any decision.

Well done all who are losers and KOKO to the stallers/ gainers.

CointreauVersial · 05/02/2018 13:07

1lb down. Sloooow and steady (but 6lb down in total, which I'm pleased with).

I have to confess to a day off on Saturday....wine and cocktails Blush....but in my defence I chose something very sensible from the lunch menu.

Today I'm wearing a pair of trousers which I certainly couldn't have fastened before Christmas.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2018 13:20

Ahhh, Leap, my bad-tempered twin!

Really pleased to hear you've got it moving again, and if it helps, now that I'm a few weeks into no dairy, I'm not missing it at all.

YoLoHogwomanay · 05/02/2018 13:39

1.5lbs off for me. I saw 87.1kg yesterday and this morning was 87.9kg but hadn't had a poo. So I'm recording 87.5kg as that seems probably correct.

only cheating myself Grin

BIWI · 05/02/2018 13:42

Welcome @gruntley123! The best advice I can give you is to make sure that you go to the spreadsheet and read the rules really carefully!

Also, as a reminder - these are the things that you're not going to be eating on Bootcamp:

potatoes (and also sweet potatoes and sweetcorn are to be avoided)
rice
pasta/noodles
bread/crackers/pitta/bagels/wraps/naan/poppadom/chappatti etc
biscuits
sweets
chocolate
flour
pulses/legumes (i.e. peas, lentils, chickpeas, hummus, kidney beans etc)
fruit (for the first two weeks, and then only berries in moderation after that)
nuts/seeds (same as for fruit)
alcohol (for the first two weeks, and again then only occasionally and in moderation after that)

But what you will be eating will include:

Lots of lovely fat! Butter, olive oil, cheese, cream, mayonnaise. No low fat anything.

Meat, fish and eggs - fattier cuts are better

Plenty of veg and salad - this is where your carbs should come from as much as possible

Lots of water

@LeapinLizards glad to see you back!

Hello Athel . No dairy at all?? Wow. Respect. I'm not there yet, but it's something to aim for. if only I didn't love cheese quite so much

LeapinLizards · 05/02/2018 13:45

Hello BIWI - thanks for the thread and the welcome back.

nekobus · 05/02/2018 13:46

Thanks for the new thread BIWI and thanks also to prettybird and beryl for managing the BC for the first 4 weeks (can it really be week 5 already???)

Well done on all the SVs and NSVs Smile

1.4 pounds off for me at 203.4 the 190's are within reach!

And I'm normally quite good at remembering all the acronyms but what is FLGV? Grin

I've been trying almond milk in my tea but I much prefer soya - I know it's not very popular but has fewer carbs, can anyone explain the issue with soya?

Confession time - I'm feeling very envious of those BCers who are already near to a BMI of 25 (which to be honest I'm not sure I'll ever reach) it's absolutely nothing personal, just more that sometimes I feel I've got so far to go I'll never get there... but hearing some of the long term successes like ilove and many others does help, I've been thinking of some mini goals to help me on the way so here goes:

  1. Under 200
  2. 194 = starting weight for Oct boot camp which I didn't stick with
  3. Under 190 = weight when I broke my leg last May and exercise went out the window!
  4. 180 = out of 'obese'
  5. 177 = lowest weight in 2017
  6. 167 = Unser 12st
AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2018 13:52

None at all Sad. I noticed that whenever I had cream or cheese my face would be noticeably blotchier the next day. If it was inflaming my skin the chances are it would be interfering with other things as well, so I cut it out. I've never really been a sweets fiend, but it was HARD cutting out the cream in coffee.

Now it's gone, I don't really notice it's not there any more. Grin

I would like to reintroduce some stinky, dribbly, rotting, blue cheese at some point, but it will have to wait until I'm at goal/equivalent to goal weight. I've promised myself that when that happens I can go to the shop, walk round, and buy absolutely anything I want for a day's splurge .

ilovecherries · 05/02/2018 14:29

nekobus FLGV means a ‘fuck load of green veg’ :)

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 14:31

Lunch was a delicious mess of a chicken thigh, two eggs, loads of green cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli and soy sauce. YUM.

I love big lunches.

LeapinLizards · 05/02/2018 14:33

One of the best things about this WOE is the cream in coffee, Athel. I was out at the weekend and asked for cream and they had none so i opted for milk but wasn't nearly as nice as my lovely creamy ones. What do you have in your coffee instead of cream?

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 14:36

I was completely addicted to milk in my coffee. I kicked the habit by using cream, then after a few weeks kept trying almond milk. Now I really like my coffee with almond milk. Cream in coffee is a few times a week treat.

A couple of weeks ago I had a latte in Costa, mainly because my dd bought it for me and I didn't have the heart to fuss, and was just getting back into BC. I drank it wiothout thinking. I felt TERRIBLE afterwards, sick, bloated. I still can't think about it without feeling ill!!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2018 14:37

I have it black now, although (and I'm really doubting the wisdom of telling you this), I have had to cut right back on the amount I drink, from 3 or 4 cups a day with 3 spoons of instant in each, to just 1 or 2 a day, with only 1 spoon of instant in each. It was just making me too jittery and anxious without the fat in it to slow the caffeine down.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 05/02/2018 14:39

Strange, isn't it, Scabbers, how you can reset yourself to see what effect different foods really have on you?

GailLondon · 05/02/2018 14:40

Creeping down! 1lb off down to 10st8.5

I took part in the Cancer Research Winter run 10k in London yesterday. Absolutely smashed my previous 10k pb to finish it in 1hr04! Quite satisfying to prove everyone wrong who told me I could never keep up with my running on a low carb eating plan.
Must have burnt off a fair few calories too.

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 14:45

yes I find it stronger with almond milk, the caffeine seems stronger. I only have one teaspoon though of instant espresso

nekobus · 05/02/2018 14:46

Thanks ilove! Makes sense now Grin

Gail that's brilliant well done!

I did try almond milk in coffee at the weekend, made a sort of flat white with my frother thing it wasn't too bad but I do prefer cream. I started measuring it out so I only have 15ml each coffee as it was definitely adding up the calories (not counting honest Blush)

Scabbersley · 05/02/2018 14:46

I know athel! I am wondering whether I've always been sensitive to milk. I was often bloated etc and used to drink tons of milk, always have.
