Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

Hi everyone, great reading in the thread, I’ve almost caught up. Flowers and Star and Grin to all I can’t remember but deserve them, ha!

Very stressful and difficult time for me lately but feeling hopeful that a change in weather will mean an uplift. Good news is I’ve stayed almost perfectly on plan and am shifting slowly but regularly this Bootcamp.

blacktea what kind of dance class do you attend? That’s something I’d very much love to start doing again and trying to find a good one.

Athelstane I love Callan Pinckney and Callanetics. Do you have a video or the book or what...?

Reading these threads is such a motivator for me. Thanks to everyone on them.

Rshard · 11/02/2018 08:23

Realised I’ve not been very good at logging my food, which I know keeps me on track, so
Friday
B - buttery scrambled eggs avo
L - tuna salad mayo
D - mushroom cream bacon ramekin starter, haddock spinach hollandaise sauce, side salad. 2 glasses of wine, americano with cream - birthday dinner

Saturday
B - bacon eggs
L - ham and cheese salad mayo
D - hm chicken curry, celeriac rice 1 poppadom

Actual birthday today so going out for breakfast.

BumbleBeef30 · 11/02/2018 08:35

Happy birthday, Rshard!

YoLoHogwomanay · 11/02/2018 09:00

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/02/2018 09:53

Happy Birthday! Flowers

Shag, I have a really old hardback book, which got water damaged when my house flooded, so it's extremely manky and mildewed. Nonetheless I'm very attached to it, as it's the combination of HFLC and Callan that got me into the best shape of my life, with the least effort.

She seems to have been HIIT before anyone coined the term - do a difficult, small and repetitive exercise for 30 seconds, then do nothing at all for a couple of days Grin.

I'm just off to scout out a new area that I might be moving to, if I get this latest job I'm applying for. Trying not to be excited, since the last two didn't come off...

MumOfAPickle · 11/02/2018 09:54

Morning all, been crap at tracking food too so will reflect now on what I've had.
Thursday:
B: bacon and egg muffins
L: chicken with salad, couple of squares of low carb choc (found one in holland and barrat which is 14g per 100g)
D: more chicken and salad, then had book group where I didn't drink the prosecco offered but did have red wine and I picked apart my lovely friends vegetable lasagne and had no garlic bread but did eat a tiny bit of cake with some berries and natural yogurt.
Friday:
B: bacon & mushrooms
L: at a funeral so negotiated the buffet. Ate the middle out of a couple of mini quiches and smoked salmon and cucumber. Camomile tea, no booze. Did eat the tiny lemon posset with a very thin shortbread biscuit.
D: steak with celeriac chips, spinach and broccoli
S: choc truffles with raspberries and cream, flax bread with butter

Sat:
B: 1 rasher of bacon
L: chicken wings and salad
D: takeaway, had tandoori duck and saag paneer
S: flax bread with my new homemade chia seed jam, choc truffles with cream and a few raspberries

I don't think I'm going to lose any this week and will be please if I've just not put on any weight. I have been reflecting on why this is and I think I just eat too much. Since the end of the first 2 weeks my allowed treats have crept up and up. Plus the small but, I guess, significant slip ups all add up. I really really love food and so have been excited about all the lovely things I can eat on this woe no have just eaten too many of them too often. I need to be more mindful about what is going in my mouth
and not make a batch of 40 choc truffles next week
I also think I might need to track my carbs, is mfp the best for this? It's not going to start freaking me out about calories and fat?

I must say that the stories and support on this thread are invaluable so thank you to you all for your input and honesty Smile

MumOfAPickle · 11/02/2018 09:57

And happy birthday rshard Flowers - no carbs in these!!

Cherrypi · 11/02/2018 10:08

Argh fallen off the wagon. At least I know my triggers. One was sorting out my son's medical folder and reflecting on his hospital admissions as an infant and another was getting unexpected news about my son's nursery place that really upset me. Carbs cheer me up in these situations I need to find an alternative.

ShagMeRiggins · 11/02/2018 10:26

Carbs cheer me up in these situations

But do they really, Cherrypi? Did you feel cheered when you opened your post with “argh”?

I understand emotional eating (don’t we all) and it’s really good you’ve identified your triggers. What alternative ideas can you think of that would provide comfort in stressful times? Flowers

Happy birthday to Rshard and good luck with the site scouting Athelstane (and the job, and the Callanetics...).

blackteaplease · 11/02/2018 11:42

Happy birthday rshard hope you have a fabulous day.

Shag I go to a tap class for 1.5 hrs. It's not massively technical as its a mixed class but I love it.

SoMuchToBits · 11/02/2018 12:54

Happy birthday, Rshard! Hope you enjoyed your breakfast. Hopefully it was a nice healthy fry-up. Smile

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 11/02/2018 13:05

Sorting through drawers and creating a charity shop pile but finding it hard to believe I won’t need these clothes again and really can let them go. Some of them are enormous on me, but...

It’s particularly hard with the better quality ones, i notice.

Almahart · 11/02/2018 13:23

To all those craving carbs/stodge on this cold weather I can recommend the corned beef hash on the recipe threads. I just had it after a cold morning in the park and it is delicious.

I’m going for 12:8 I think. Managed it today fairly easily. 7th day of no booze here which is what I promised myself. Wine cravings pretty much gone which is a huge relief, I was quite worried on Monday. I think from now on I just won’t have wine hanging about in the house but will only buy it for eg a Sunday roast.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2018 13:51

Hello. I haven't been on a bootcamp for some time now, but I started this week on my own because I really needed to.
I've been doing quite well with the cravings for sweet and carby stuff (after day 3, anyway) but I'm having issues with actually losing any weight. A week in the first time I did it properly and, as I remember it, I'd lost 5lb. This time, only 1lb.

I know I'm not eating enough breakfast (I never do, I almost never eat breakfast as my stomach isn't at all geared up for it) and I'm not up to 3L of water in a day but I wasn't last time either...

No alcohol either. Which has been hard, especially when DH cooked a bloody turkey risotto for the family meal last night, as he'd apparently "forgotten" or "not noticed" that I was doing low carbing again. Hmm'
He told me to have a glass of wine and chill out as I cooked my version of "dirty cauliflower rice". HmmHmm
I didn't, of course.

So I'll just hang around in here and see where I'm going wrong, or start to cheer when it finally kicks in and starts to work again!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/02/2018 13:55

Ah. Well I just went and checked the fruit carb counter and can see where I've gone wrong - my cherry addiction. Hey ho, out they go then - I'll switch to raspberries or strawberries to have with my cream for pudding at night.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 11/02/2018 14:00

Well, i got a bad letter from the tax people so ended up sorrow drowning last night.
Today:
B: small amount of cheese
L:snackettes and taramasalata
D: fish pie with low carb white sauce and swede mash

BIWI · 11/02/2018 14:03

Hi @ThumbWitchesAbroad

I did tell you about cherries ... Grin

@BadlyParkedRangeRover. I got a letter from HMRC a couple of weeks ago telling me that I owed them £34,000. That was a bad day, I can tell you. Turns out that it was a mistake - no shit Sherlock - and I actually owed them £267.

Shag, I took up tap and ballet in my late 40s, just for fun, love my classes.

I'm hanging on in, just. Yesterday I was ready to come on the thread and tell you all I'm out, as I'm just not enjoying my food at all, I've had a couple of really unappetising no carb meals out and am tired of it all. However I resisted bread with my fry-up brunch today so clearly part of me wants to carry on.

Twoo · 11/02/2018 14:46

Star for all those who keep posting their motivating journeys.

Shag’ Flowers sorry to hear you’ve had it rough.

Happy Birthday Rshard Flowers

Fingers crossed for everyone’s weigh in tomorrow.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 11/02/2018 14:47

Haven't been on in a while, we've been all struck down by the lurgie big time, so I've been playing nurse all week.

I've now lost a stone on this bootcamp however so I'm thrilled!

The next stone is the one I can never seem to get below so I really want to crack the next two. Onwards and downwards, KOKO!!

Twoo · 11/02/2018 14:49

A stone is fantastic Theseason’ l

Rshard · 11/02/2018 14:52

Thanks for the birthday wishes! No carb twattery, had salmon, scrambled eggs and an americano.

Hope you enjoy scouting the new area athlestane, and fingers crossed for the new job

Could you sell the better quality clothes grandold? I’ve sold a few bits. You could use any cash earned towards new bits.

You’ve done so well to persevere whoonows, I think you’re right - on some level you do want to do this!!

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 11/02/2018 15:15

Thanks TwooSmile

CointreauVersial · 11/02/2018 15:23

I think that's the key WhoKnows - treating yourself to food that is delicious despite being low-carb, so you don't feel "deprived". I had a fritatta this morning - eggs/cream with hot smoked salmon and cheddar, and honestly couldn't have had a more yummy brunch.

CointreauVersial · 11/02/2018 15:50

It's pancake day on Tuesday - can anyone recommend a reliable low-carb pancake recipe? I've found one which uses cream cheese and ground almonds - just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions?
