Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

BIWI · 05/02/2018 06:42

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

Happy Friday Peeps

Today’s Menu:-

B - None as not hungry.
L - Raspberries & double cream (not at home. that was the best option).
D - Pork Ribs, Coffee with double cream.

Not enough veg, well not any. I promise I will eat loads of the green little devils tomorrow. Not enough water either, so will try harder.

Wishing everyone a great weekend and sending stay on track vibes. Monday’s weigh in will thank you for it.

SoMuchToBits · 09/02/2018 22:26

And welcome, Nan0. I'm sure you'll find loads of advice and support here. Smile

blacktea, good idea to go prepared when eating at other people's houses. I'm lucky that most people I stay with (my sisters mostly) are quite understanding of my low carb requirements, especially my older sis, whose dh is eating fairly low carb to reverse type 2 diabetes.

nekobus · 09/02/2018 22:45

Yay it's Friday!

B - creamy coffee
L - 3 egg omelette with cheese
D - 2 egg omelette with cheese
S - olives, crispy bacon, low carb granola, creamy coffee, tea and soya milk (bit of a snack day!)
W - 2 L plus fruit teas

Spiderkitty · 10/02/2018 02:31

I drank 3 litres yesterday, but have woken up feeling really thirsty, and did last night as well. I wonder if I should be drinking more?

I've been stopping drinking at 6pm so I don't have to go to the loo loads in the night, maybe this isn't a good idea?

Bit worried that I'm not producing as much milk now either, DS (10 months) has been waking up to feed a lot more the past couple of nights. Does anyone on here have experience of doing LCHF while bfing and have any tips? Wonder if I'm simply dehydrated or if I should be doing bootcamp light.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 06:50

I woke up half an hour after you did, spiderkitty, also feeling really thirsty despite a day of drinking lots of water. Is your water intake usually bad? Mine is, and I wondered if it was something to do with the transition to drinking more.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 06:51

Scales victory to report - (drum roll). I have made it into the overweight category!!

Spiderkitty · 10/02/2018 07:27

Well done on your loss this morning grandold Smile

I never used to get thirsty and would often forget to drink until about lunch time! I never used to have any salt on my food either, so having added salt could be making me more thirsty too.

EeeSheWasThin · 10/02/2018 07:28

GrandOld yay, interim target reached!! What’s your next mini goal?

Didn’t eat enough yesterday, was on the run a lot of the time and kept taking swigs of double cream so I wasn’t hungry. Need veg today! At a course next to a bakers so the smell of the bread is torture...I have resisted.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 07:41

Thank you :) Next mini goal is only 5lbs away, which is to get under 15stone and see 14 something on the scales.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 07:42

eee make sure you are eating and drinking plenty to help you resist the bread!

LeapinLizards · 10/02/2018 08:20

Catching up a bit - Flowers to all those facing challenging circumstances. And massive well done to GrandOld for smashing the barrier between obese & overweight. Hooray!

I'm about to go away for a couple of days, visiting 2 lots of family & hoping I'll be able to stay on track. I've explained i'm low carbing & that can bring own food to minimise inconvenience to them but they've said no. Fingers crossed it'll be fine.

Going to take some LC snacks as backup & say it needed to be used up - avocado & cheese - which is why Ive brought it.

Rshard · 10/02/2018 08:34

Well done grandold, powering on to the next mini goal too!

I don’t know the science kitty, but I felt like that last bootcamp. A drink of bouillon was prescribed to replace electrolytes (I think?). It worked

BIWI · 10/02/2018 08:55

@SpiderKitty if you're drinking a lot, eating low carb, then that can indicate that you need more salt, not less.

Here's a piece from the Diet Doctor that explains why salt is important.

Had a good day yesterday, went to theatre and had sparkling water while friends drank wine so am now on day 6 no alcohol which is great

However, on the way home I bought a bag of chips. Why the beep did I do that? I feel that for some reason I am a bit ambivalent about losing more weight.

Hit me with the boot camp stick!

ilovecherries I think there will be hugs before the end of this boot camp (no one can see us here!)

blackteaplease · 10/02/2018 09:00

Good idea lizards MIL has just announced its pizza for lunch Hmm

LeapinLizards · 10/02/2018 09:15

blacktea maybe it's fathead pizza? knows this definitely won't be the case

What will you do? Is it possible to decline without offending her?

ilovecherries · 10/02/2018 09:17

Well done, Duke. You will need to change your username very soon :).

I'm celebrating a scale victory today. Have seen 11.10 for the 3rd day in a row which by my rules makes it official and not a blip. I didn't think it would be feasible to reach 11.5 (and a healthy bmi by a whisker) during this bootcamp, but beginning to have a hope that I might JUST make it, as my rate of loss seems to have picked up slightly again.

blackteaplease · 10/02/2018 09:34

I have informed her that I am having tuna salad instead.

SayrraT · 10/02/2018 09:35

Well done Duke Grin

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 10:04

That seems absolutely possible, ilovecherries! We just have to have faith and KOKO. Well done for loss.

I am having coconut cream in my coffee (had run out of cream, and already used up my emergency UHT milk sachets, so opened a tin of coconut milk and skimmed off some cream). It is really nice!

Spiderkitty · 10/02/2018 10:14

Thank you for the link BIWI, it's hard getting my head round eating all this salt and fat when it's so drilled into you not to if you want to lose weight on other diets!

Although I've lost 9lbs since Wednesday and have been really enjoying the food, so it must be working. I know a lot of it is just water weight loss to start with, but it still cheered me up!

I'll try that Rshard. Marigold boullion powder is 30.1g carbs per 100g dry weight but once diluted is 1.5g carbs per 250mls so does anyone know if that's ok?

LeapinLizards · 10/02/2018 10:22

Good move, blacktea. spiderkitty, I'd say that's fine for the bouillon, esp as 250ml is a large amount to drink and you might get sick of it before you finish. But, even if you don't, 1.5g seems ok (providing you don't start glugging it non-stop each day).

prettybird · 10/02/2018 10:22

Spiderkitty - marigold bouillon is fine. As would Bovril or an oxocube. I think the science of why you get extra thirsty even though you are drinking plenty of water is that your electrolytes are out of balance - hence the need for extra - not less Confused - salt and why a mug of bouillon helps.

I seem to recall that if you are breastfeeding, Boot Camp Lite is recommended. @StuntNun is the one to advise on that, having done so herself Smile

The mid-night wakening does settle down as your body gets used to this Way of Eating.

Nan0second · 10/02/2018 10:30

Really impressed with people's losses!
I’m on the week 4 stall.
Even though I expected it, I’m still disappointed. I don’t think I’m drinking enough though as I feel thirsty a lot, especially in the evenings. I’m going to buy a reusable bottle to try and encourage myself.
Am going to a dinner party tonight, which I am dreading from a food point of view. I will do my best though and try not to be a carby twat...

BIWI · 10/02/2018 10:53

@SpiderKitty (and anyone else who's struggling with the advice to eat more fat and salt!) please go and read up about low carving - there are lots of resources on the spreadsheet, on the tabs, as it will really help you get to grips with it, if you understand the science behind it
