Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The Big Stick is Back!

Morning all!

Many thanks to @prettybird and @BerylStreep for running this Bootcamp so well, so far. It's been a bit weird watching from the sidelines Grin

However, I'm back. Back in the UK, back at work and back on the wagon.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for this week

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of 'slippage' going on over the last week or so. I know that we're able to move on to Bootcamp Light now, but be very, very careful that this doesn't lead to too many carbs. And remember to keep the water and the fat up.

Good luck this week

orkney, you have my complete sympathy. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I literally broke tiny blood vessels all over my belly one night by scratching.

prettybird · 10/02/2018 16:52

I'll try it with smaller loaf tins then, BIWI Smile

The coffee and sesame "walnut" cake is quite tasty. Dh and I think it could do with more coffee (although that's maybe because the sesame oil is quite strong) and I think it could do with a pinch of salt. It was also slightly undercooked - maybe because I used a round tin rather than a loaf tin.

I've made the tiramisu now - I'll let you know tomorrow night how it tastes Smile The mascarpone, cream, vanilla seeds and erythritol mixture was certainly very tasty! Grin

Following on from the conversation earlier about Scottish curries vs other British curries.

We are off on a 140 mile round trip to go to our favourite Indian restaurant. Not only are Scottish Indian curries better than other British Indian curries West Coast curries are better than East Coast curries Grin

Anyone living near Irvine, if you've not been to the torrynyard tandoori you need to go!

prettybird · 10/02/2018 18:08

As a West Coaster, not going to disagree with you SayrraT Wink

BTW - ds' rugby game is still on at Biggar next Saturday (17th). I'll need to watch the game (ds is looking forward to being up against the 1st choice scrum half on the SRU pathway programme. His friend, who is also in the pathway programme, has said he's not as good as this guy, but is miles better than the 2nd choice scrum half).

If it's 2pm kick-off, ds will want to be there for no later than 12.45, so if you want to meet up, we could do do then.

....and any other Boot Campers within reach of Biggar!

Of course, this is all weather permitting.

SayrraT · 10/02/2018 18:18

Yes, that would be great. I'll pm you my number later on Smile

BlackMozart · 10/02/2018 18:22

Those making the low carb bread don’t make the mistake I did and cover it in foil once out of the oven. The top went all wet and slimy! I’ve cut it off and got 12 slices in addition to the one I had earlier and have put in the freezer.

BlackMozart · 10/02/2018 18:25

I get itchy too! Currently it’s the palms of my hands (terrible) and sometimes forearms, and in my ears!!

Rshard · 10/02/2018 18:30

Thanks blackmozart, for the tin advice

Almahart · 10/02/2018 18:39

6th day alcohol free! Yay! BUT am being a carbytwat for reasons I don’t fully understand

BIWI · 10/02/2018 19:24

I'm on day 11 here, but seriously struggling to avoid the temptation of a G&T!

Haven't entered carby twatdom yet either, so Halo me!

@orkneyfudge that's great to hear this WOE is working out for you while breast feeding, I was feeling a bit anxious about it when I woke up in the middle of the night and there seem to be so many mixed opinions about it when I googled it.

B: Left over pork and celeriac plus an avocardo and a piece of cheese (feels like I ate loads for breakfast, but was super hungry after digging one of the horses beds out!)
L: More left over pulled pork, cheese a big salad and some mayo.
S: Pork scratchings and a cup of boullion
D: Roast chicken, buttery celeriac, broccoli and spinich

Drank approx 3 litres of water.

BumbleBeef30 · 10/02/2018 19:46

B lettuce and mayo
L sea bass, celeriac chips, lettuce
2nd L leftover bacon and an egg
D lettuce and more than an few slices of pancetta
W only managed 1.5 litres so far. Another two to go in the next two hours.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 10/02/2018 20:50

Thanks for advice all! Keto flu is coming up to 2 weeks now. It lasted over a month last time, I added legumes and then oat cakes and then all the carbs you can think of!
I'm hoping to hold on this time!

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 10/02/2018 20:52

though i have a 10g of carb a serving black daal recipe I'm clinging on to! I thought once a month our so would be ok!

BlackMozart · 10/02/2018 21:19

Keep going Drybuary people. We can do this!
BIWI step away from the temptation of a G&T🙂

Mimosa1 · 10/02/2018 21:26

Hi everyone,
I survived the danger zone that was my toddler's 3rd bday and did quite well on the LCHF front overall - a bit too much carrot/peppers/hummus and sausages that weren't especially low carb, and some prosecco BUT I avoided all the pizza, sweets, biscuits, cake, etc. Ive also fallen in love with marinated artichokes. So More-ish and delicious. I'm planning to buy more that I don't have to share at a party :)

I've had a sneaky peek at the scales though and it's looking like no loss this week. I've had too many semi skim milk teas at work and not enough water plus it's week 4 for me so it could be the dreaded stall. I suppose at least I'm not putting on weight. At least I think I know what to do to fix things.

The party was a great success and I'm now getting an early night to recover.

@blackteaplease thanks for posting your weight loss stats the other day. I'm 5"6 and pretty much at the weight now where you started off with a few pounds extra so found it v encouraging.

headoutofthesand · 10/02/2018 21:36

All these posts about Drybruary made me realise it's five weeks now since I had a drink. It's made easier for me by the fact that, other than at Christmas, I rarely drink at home and, due to children, don't go out that much. However, there have been a couple of days at work in recent weeks which have almost broken my resolve!
Reducing carbs is much harder than reducing alcohol for me. Sometimes, I just crave something carby... a jacket potato or some baguette. But I think that it is just for the comforting taste/feeling of eating it rather than anything else so I need to make sure that my determination to be safely within healthy BMI outweighs that. Also, is anything more comforting than the deliciousness of a perfectly ripe avocado? No!

BlackMozart · 10/02/2018 21:38

That cake looks good prettybird. I’ve got his book but haven’t made anything from it yet so will have to take a look.

BlackMozart · 10/02/2018 21:41

heads only a perfectly ripe avocado mashed with lime juice, a few chilli flakes, coriander, s& p and a little oil!

prettybird · 10/02/2018 22:08

I've got a few ideas on how to improve it BlackMozart - adding a pinch of salt, maybe some cinnamon, doubling the coffee and proper walnut oil and am going to try it with a grated courgette rather than the grated apple, to make it more Boot Camp (Lite, because of the artificial sweetener) compatible. Maybe even some chopped walnuts.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 22:23

B coffee with coconut cream, mortadella
L mortadella with avocado, spring onion, basil in oily vinaigrette

Out at a party this evening, but have done reasonably well I think. Handful of salted peanuts. Beef stew in a tomatoey sauce with carrots (passed the potatoes to my neighbour). The custard that went with the syrup sponge (passed the sponge to my neighbour but couldn’t resist the custard). No wine - drank water all night. Finishing up now with a coffee while listening to the band.

Scabbersley · 10/02/2018 23:00

Didn't eat until 12. 2x scrambled eggs and bacon.
25g Pack of jerky (3.6 carbs per 100g)
Few bits of chicken breast

Shock basically fuck all!

Glass of wine.

Terrible eating!

ilovecherries · 10/02/2018 23:04

Daughter eating a 'healthy' organic cereal bar with no added anything. I idly picked up the wrapper to have a look. 41gms of carbs in one teeny tiny serving that wouldn't satisfy a mouse. That's twice what I eat in an entire day now and before I wouldn't even have noticed myself eating it, so it would have been a tiny proportion of my total carb intake for the day. Bloody hell.

SoMuchToBits · 10/02/2018 23:20

Those cereal bars are terrible, cherries. They are usually packed full of sugar (either as actual sugar or as dried fruits etc), but people think they are healthy as they have fruit, wholegrains etc and are low fat.

People would be better off with a lump of cheese and a few slices of cucumber.

mrsglowglow · 11/02/2018 07:21

Had a fail at pizza express
Starter - mozzarella tomato salad - OK carbs
Main - lasagna - not so good carbs wise
Large glass of white wine - not so good
Dessert - 3 salted caramel profiteroles and black coffee - terrible carbs wise

Before this I had a great week so back on track today and uping the water. Not going on the scales til tomorrow!
