Hello, sorry I haven't been around at Christmas. We went to stay with my sister, and I didn't get a lot of opportunity to get online.
I did pretty well with sticking mostly to low carb foods, with a few small exceptions. We arrived on 23rd, and dinner that evening was salmon with a creamy spinach and watercress sauce, some broccoli and asparagus, with potatoes for those who wanted, but I didn't have. I did have a very small portion of the trifle, with a generous dollop of cream.
Christmas Eve we had lunch in a Greek restaurant. We chose mezze style dishes to share, so I was able to avoid all the carby things. Dinner was crustless quiches with salads, and bread for those who wanted, but I didn't have any. I did have one mince pie.
Christmas Day we ate the main meal in the evening. Lunch was potted pork, potted haddock, loads of cheeses, salad things, and bread/biscuits for cheese which I avoided. Dinner was a vegetarian nut Wellington, which I only had a small piece because although the filling was fine, it had pastry. I had with it sprouts, chipolata, bacon, gravy and a very small roast potato. I did then have a tiny piece of Christmas pudding, again with cream.
Boxing Day lunch was chestnut soup and then more cheeses, salads, potted pork etc, and in the evening we just had more of the cheeses, leftovers etc.
I did also drink wine (dry white) every day, but made sure I also drank plenty of water. So the total carb damage was one small portion of trifle, one mince pie, one small portion of Christmas pudding, one small potato and the Wellington pastry, plus wine. I got through the whole of Christmas without eating any chocolate at all.
Interestingly, my stomach felt quite sore. I don't know whether it was the few carby foods I ate or the wine, but I definitely didn't feel as "well" as usual, despite avoiding a lot of the carby foods I could have had.
I was convinced I would have put on loads of weight, but I weighed this morning and have only gained a pound, which is not too bad going. The next couple of days should be more or less normal food, then I am having people round for drinks/snacks on Saturday, but am planning on doing quite a few low carb snacks, and just won't eat the higher carb ones.
