Sorry but not sure where else to post. My DSis struggles with her weight and has recently clearly gained even more. I don't know what she weighs but she is at least as big as I was at my biggest when my BMI (for what it's worth) was 36, but I suspect hers is higher.
Anyway I've lost consistently on this woe and find the science fascinating. I've no wish to force anything on her but when my loss was noticed by her I explained what I was doing and why, particularly focusing on the role insulin plays, how it both makes you hungry and stops fat burning if it is often high. Given she has gained weight rapidly and has had issues with binge eating, just like me, I'm sure her insulin is an issue.
She is young, 19, lives at home, and it breaks my heart to see her so down. I suggested she try this woe for 4 weeks to see what she thinks but she won't and DM is oddly unsupportive - says it all makes sense but then says "oh but Dsis won't manage without pasta" etc. So for weeks I've been losing weight, feeling great, and they have just watched. Whatever, I won't preach I'll just be an example for them.
But then she had a triple burger from a drive thru today. Brought it up herself, telling me how nice it was. I said "oh on this woe if I wanted that I'd just bin the bread and enjoy the burger, cheese and bacon, still get the tasty bit that way". Then her and my DM reply that Dsis is seeing a therapist who is going to fix the weight issue and has said she mustn't diet. I said well willpower won't get you that far if insulin is a problem for you and they said well the therapist is expensive so we're following her advice.
Sorry to go on I just find it so hard to understand, I don't get why she won't just try it? It's a common topic her concern with her weight and yet she won't just try it for a few weeks and see? I've tried to say it's not so much a diet as medical intervention for the reasons behind weight gain, that weight loss is almost a side effect iyswim but they just carry on with DM buying her burgers and going out for dinner eating lasagne chips and garlic bread. I know how unhappy she is.
I won't mention it again even if the topic is raised as with today. It's her life of course. But does anyone else have anything like this? I wish she'd give it a go rather than dismiss it out of hand. She has nothing to lose (except fat, ha, pun a bit intended).
