Week 2 - Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

I love this week, because this is when all the naysayers and doubters realise that this WOE really works!

(... and those who've cheated realise that that really doesn't work Wink)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your first loss

I missed most of this weekend as I have my very lovely SIL staying with us, prior to her leaving for a 6 month stint in Australia. So I haven't been able to be as glued to the laptop as I am usually.

Glad to hear that some of you have reported in good losses already - I'll look forward to hearing the rest today!

Good luck everyone, for this second week. Hopefully after a good first week you'll know it's worth it Flowers

Just made my food for tomorrow. I am having:

B: Ff greek yog with a dash of cream, a tspn of chia seeds and 2 tspn of crunchy almond butter mixed in. Yum. I love bc lite.
L: tin of tuna chunks in oil (some drained off or its literally too greasy to mix), with 2 tbspns mayo and some chopped babycorn with cucumber sticks. And some cheese sticks if I'm hungry mid afternoon.
D: peppered steaks with cavolo nero and leeks in butter and Swede chips with garlic mayo to dip.

I'm salivating already Grin.

Hippadipadation, BIWI - Thank you, funnily enough this is what I wrote to someone here yesterday morning:
"I hear you, but unfortunately, this way of eating is unforgiving and in order for it to work, you need to stay off the booze for at the least the first 2 weeks of BC. Believe me, I know, I am struggling daily with my "wine o'clock" - particularly since I am not losing anything and have not had the usual first week "whoosh" of 5 or 6 lbs I normally get when doing this woe. I'm sorry, that's not very encouraging to hear - but I am telling myself that 25 years of boozy carb-eating got me to where I am now, so 2 weeks of LCHF are hardly going to make a big inroad and it's worth it for my health to stay off the booze even if there are no apparent benefits currently!"
At 61 years old, I know my body reasonably well, and I am not surprised to see this morning that I have lost precisely 0.5lbs this week. I have also done LCHF several times and know that I stall in the second or third week, at which point I usually sabotage myself by treating myself to chocolate and wine. So this morning, I am celebrating that despite only having lost 0.5lbs over and above the initial 3.25lbs I'd put on due to my carb fest the day before starting BC, and lost in the first couple of days, I have not given up in the first two weeks and have not touched chocolate or wine, and I know I have the willpower to carry on like this for at least another fortnight. For me, this time round, it is good enough, though I will continue to bewail the fact that someone as large as wot I am should have lost a lot more by now!
Unfortunately, otherwise, my skin is no clearer, I am an insomniac and am actually sleeping worse than ever before, my brain is still just this foggy side of demented and I can’t get a tape measure big enough to measure me!
ClearEyes - I hear you, which is why I'm determined to go to the end of the month before thinking about whether this woe really suits my metabolism!
Still no recipe for cheesy celeriac chips? Pretty please, someone?!

OuaisMaisBon · 23/10/2017 04:25

Correction - actually, I see from the spreadsheet that I have stayed the same since last week. I'd forgotten that I went up during the week, hence I thought I'd lost someting this morning.
I will, however, KOKO this time!

pimmsy · 23/10/2017 05:54

@ouimaisbon

I don't know if this was the sort of thing you were looking for?

1 celeriac (cut into thin fries)
1 tbsp olive oil + 2tbsp for oven ( or goose/duck fat)
2 tbsp fine grated ( or the powdery sort) parmesan
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
salt - the parmesan is salty so be careful with salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder - or 2-3 cloves crushed fresh garlic

Preheat the oven to 200°C with a baking dish in the oven with 2 spoonfuls of duck fat/ goose fat or olive oil in it.

Toss the celeriac with the olive oil ( if you are using fresh garlic, mix it with the oil beforehand... i.e olive oil in the bottom of the bowl then add crushed garlic and mix well together before adding the celeriac ) then the smoked paprika, garlic powder, parmesan and pepper.

Carefully open the oven, be careful with the hot fat that may spit a bit and spread the celeriac out on the baking sheet, trying to make one flat layer so everything has room to crisp up.

Bake for 20-30 minutes (depending on thickness). Shake the baking dish a few times during baking.

@BIWI

Could you just check this is within the parameters of low carb ? Thankyou

OuaisMaisBon · 23/10/2017 06:13

Thank you so much, pimmsy, that looks great - do you know, I looked on that site earlier and somehow didn't register that Parmesan was cheese! Doh! I'll be doing those for lunch, off to find some fresh fish to go with them!
@BIWI - I've been thinking about my extremely slow progress nowadays, when time was, if I needed to lose weight, and did something about it, the excess pounds would drop off me, particularly at first. I'm wondering if there are many other obese post-menopausal women, like me, in BC and whether their experience is similar to mine? Anecdotally, I have heard that it is much harder for peri-, post- and menopausal women to lose weight than others, though I'm not sure how grounded in fact this is.
Anyhow, all you pre-menopausal ladies, let me be a lesson to you, lose that weight now and don't let it creep back on during and after menopause, because you'll have an even worse time getting rid of it! Believe this exceptionally traditionally-built old bag!

StuntNun · 23/10/2017 06:24

I'm checking in early as I'm about to drive up to Manchester for the funeral. I'm (almost) a pound down so far this Bootcamp after last week's TOTM-induced jump on the scales BUT my figure seems to have completely changed over the last couple of weeks. My tummy looks a lot slimmer. Maybe I lost all the fat from my belly!

Good luck with the weigh-ins and I encourage everyone to keep going. I've been on these Bootcamp threads for years and I my job is coaching people to switch to a low carb diet. This is an effective way to lose weight and there are a host of other health benefits as well. Weight loss can appear slow on low carb because you are only losing fat unlike on a low calorie diet where your body will start breaking down muscle tissue to make up for dietary inadequacy. Also it is completely normal for your weight to stay the same some weeks or even go up.

Please don't equate weight loss with fat loss. The scales are a poor way to measure fat loss. Go by the way your clothes fit and look at progress photos rather than the scales.

And if you're disappointed with your weigh-in today then why not spend an extra week on Bootcamp or commit to Bootcamp Light but make sure there are no cheats. Give it your best shot. This way of eating works. You just need to give yourself time to see that it works.

OuaisMaisBon · 23/10/2017 06:38

StuntNun - thank you for all the cheerleading!
I wish you well at the funeral today. Flowers

FurryTurnip · 23/10/2017 06:39

Morning all. Checking in with my week one weigh on as I started late.

Delighted with 5.5lbs loss, and more importantly and I have got below a number that I have always got stuck at in the past. Hurray!

Slight confusion on scales as if I weight in lbs it shows more loss than if I weigh in stones and convert it, but I'm going with lowest loss and being cautious.

Also, feeling clear headed, energetic and my skin is looking very smooth.

Good luck to you week two crew, I need you to inspire me for the next week. Got 4lbs to go before my weight starts with a 10 again, I'll be delighted. A couple more weeks and maybe I can crack it.

Could someone please add me to spreadsheet at 161 please?

ClearEyesFullHearts · 23/10/2017 06:39

The whole post is excellent Stuntnun but this bit Please don't equate weight loss with fat loss. The scales are a poor way to measure fat loss is worth reiterating.

We are two weeks in. Many have a long road ahead. Stay with it, stay here, be supported, and eat real, delicious food.

I'm ready to log my weight (very early for me!) but will wait for the Spreadsheet of Luurve... Grin

ClearEyesFullHearts · 23/10/2017 06:47

What I meant of course is I will wait for the Week 3 thread. Blush

HarlotsWeb · 23/10/2017 06:47

Can someone add me on tk the spreadsheet at 239.4? It is the weight from a couple of days ago, as I am now in a place without scales. The last two days have been much less carby than they would normally be here. But still not great. But I am now on my own, and that means I will have a much easier time of controlling myself than I seem to when people are offering things (am I going to basically have to be a hermit for this woe to work perfectly?!). So hopefully the gain that I know I will have had for the last two days will be off again before next Monday's weigh in.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 23/10/2017 06:50

I've added your weights Furry and Harlots. Well done to both of you.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 23/10/2017 06:52

Harlots you won't have to be a hermit, promise. What will likely happen is that as you become more accustomed to the way of eating you'll find it easier to resist outside influences and will have more confidence in your choices.

I'm finding that the more people who know about this, the less I have to say "no thank you" because people don't shove the rubbish my way.

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 23/10/2017 06:55

@Hippadippadation
Thanks for the update on C4 fingers crossed she keeps fighting,
Wonder if she will be pi$$ed if the drips aren't low carb when she wakes up.

NSV have old jeans I use for gardening and don't need to undo just the belt. Was wearing the current smallest pair, undid the belt a slid them right down, before I realised I hadn't undone them. Couldn't pull them up done up for some reason.

Good luck weighting in today everyone

OuaisMaisBon · 23/10/2017 07:03

Things to be aware of if you visit my part of the world whilst on BC.

Week 2 - Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!
Moanranger · 23/10/2017 07:04

QMB I am one of the post-menopausal women you are looking for. Yes, it is defo harder to lose as you get older. You just have to decide it is worth it. Also, you need to play around with LC a bit, to see what works for you. I keep all dairy to a minimum, and get most of my calls from veg, pure protein & non-dairy fat. I stall if there is much dairy in my diet (I think because there is lactose hiding in a lot of dairy-only my theory)
I am a great believer of using keto sticks to be sure you are in ketosis and therefore fat-burning.

Lizard202 · 23/10/2017 07:04

To avoid BIWI's big stick I thought I'd mention that like some others I have realised that depending where I put my scales the weight can vary by over a stone. Just moved them downstairs to the solid floor for weigh-in. Showing an increase but give that my NSV is I bought size 12 jeans yesterday yay. I'm happy it's moving in the right direction, just may have started heavier than I originally thought. Thanks to all on this thread, you're so inspiring xxx

ClearEyesFullHearts · 23/10/2017 07:06

Stooling. Huh. Hmm

Lizard202 · 23/10/2017 07:07

@Moanranger what are keto sticks?

OuaisMaisBon · 23/10/2017 07:10

Moanranger (loving the name!) - thank you so much for telling me this. I have been thinking the same as you about dairy and, though I will stick to BC rules for the next fortnight, am seriously considering going low-carb but not as high fat as all that, afterwards, depending on my results!

Scabbersley · 23/10/2017 07:12

2lbs off this week. That's 7lb in total over the two weeks. Staying on bootcamp this week. I need to drink more water and stop snacking, albeit on low carb stuff.

ilovecherries · 23/10/2017 07:25

Mais, I'm 60 in the New Year. I started this in May and have lost more or less three stone so far, with two more to go. I haven't so far found it particularly hard, although my rate of loss has slowed down a lot. I think two things have made a big difference for me - zero tolerance with regards to alcohol - haven't touched it since 31 December, and not having a history of yo yo dieting. I DID think about weight loss ALL the time, and had eaten low fat for years, but my weight had just increased during that time, it wasn't constantly up and down. I so haven't gone off piste, not even once. I've found it easier to just say no to everything rather than start negotiating with myself about a spoonful of this/slice of that/just once won't hurt etc etc.
