I love this week, because this is when all the naysayers and doubters realise that this WOE really works!

(... and those who've cheated realise that that really doesn't work Wink)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to record your first loss

I missed most of this weekend as I have my very lovely SIL staying with us, prior to her leaving for a 6 month stint in Australia. So I haven't been able to be as glued to the laptop as I am usually.

Glad to hear that some of you have reported in good losses already - I'll look forward to hearing the rest today!

Good luck everyone, for this second week. Hopefully after a good first week you'll know it's worth it Flowers

CarbyDiem - as I've said many, many times before, it took me 4 months (almost to the day) for me to lose a stone. Yet in that time the difference in my body shape has been astounding. I've had people say to me "Wow, you've lost loads of weight in the last few weeks" only for me to turn round and say that, actually, the weight loss had been a couple of pounds.

Go and put some clothes on that are too tight, then take a photo. I guarantee that, if you take another photo in a few weeks wearing the same clothes, you will notice a difference, regardless of what the scales say, if you stick to the rules.

Giraffeski · 16/10/2017 09:25

9.2 lb loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FurryTurnip · 16/10/2017 09:25

Morning all. I'm a week late to the party but wanted to join you. I've dipped in and out of this LCHF over the past year but keep falling off the wagon. I need to really focus this time.

It works for me, not just the weight loss, but as someone who suffers from depression I feel much more stable on this WOE without the constant crashes.

If someone could add me to the spreadsheet at 167lbs I'd be very grateful.

And well done everyone for your great week one successes!

NSEA · 16/10/2017 09:29

I am starting properly on this today. I lost 0.9lbs in the first week, but not really surprised as I had 3 birthdays and a work event. Probably not the best starting week for me, though I haven't gained as I was good the other 3 days which i am pleased about.

I have been low carbing for a few weeks (though light version as breastfeeding) and I sort of stalled losing. I was doinn the 30 day shred every day during this time. Is exercise "allowed" whilst low carbing? I've decided to put that on hold for a month and see what difference it makes to me. I read conflicting things.

I need to stop breastfeeding really as I am sure that's stalling my loss.

I am doing this 2 week properly now though, despite breastfeeding.

StuntNun · 16/10/2017 09:37

Congratulations to all you losers and KOKO to everyone. CarbyDiem sometimes there is a healing process that needs to take place before weight loss starts, especially if you have dieted in the past and/or there are any hormonal issues.

I am a pound up this week but AF is due and that usually causes a two-pound increase so I'm not worried.

StuntNun · 16/10/2017 09:39

NSEA exercise and breastfeeding shouldn't stop you losing weight although exercise that leaves you feeling sore the next day is a cause of water retention that would mask weight loss. List out a few days food and you can get some advice.

shiplessocean · 16/10/2017 09:45

Morning everyone. Didn't weigh this morning - had 2 disastrous days at end of business trip last week (after 2 very good days). A big lesson - derailed completely by drinking and the subsequent hangover. But I'm totally determined to KOKO this week and have a super-strict week to get back on track, inspired by all of you! Just had creamy coffee and about to make omelette.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 16/10/2017 09:46

Oh, and I lost 2.1lbs this past week which I'm thrilled at, seeing as how rubbish it was.

Have just noticed I'm sucking a boiled menthol sweet. Whoops! I could spit it out but I'm rather keen on being able to breathe once again so I'm not going to.

NSEA · 16/10/2017 09:49

I think psychologically the breastfeeding affects me as I don't know if I am eating enough so i wonder should I be eating more. Then somedays I eat a bit more than I normally would. So portion sizes are affecting me.

Typical day for me is:
Breakfast: 2 egg omelette with mushrooms cooked in butter
Lunch: tuna or chicken and (boring) cheese salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) with mayo
Tea: some kind of meat (salmon/chicken/sausages) with either carrot/swede mash/brocoli/cauliflower/peas.

I don't snack.

I haven't lost in weeks. In fact, I've lost and regained the same pound repeatedly for about 6 weeks now.

I am not drinking enough water either. I know that.

I keep reading that i will lose more if I eat more.

I think I need to focus on doing boot camp properly and see how the next 2 weeks goes. I am sure I know what I am doing wron

StuntNun · 16/10/2017 09:59

In my experience there are a lot of factors influencing how much weight you lose in the first week. Your previous diet has an impact. If you were eating a lot of sugar/carbs/processed foods that can make for a bigger loss compared to someone that was eating mainly unprocessed foods. How closely you stick to the rules in the first week makes a huge difference and the three major culprits here are too many carbs, too little water, and too little fat. If you have recently been on a diet then weight loss can be small or you may even see a weight gain while the body restores lost muscle mass. Some people are less insulin resistant and their bodies adapt to low carb more quickly enabling them to start burning fat sooner. Stress and lack of sleep are two factors that tend to slow weight loss using any method. Exercise and time of the month can both cause water retention. Finally there is a natural variation in weight over time, both from day to day and over the course of the day which can be up to 4-5lb.

So remember, Your mileage may vary! If you're somewhere between losing 9lb and gaining 2lb then you're in the typical range for this way of eating. If you haven't lost as much as you thought you would then post at least two days food here for constructive criticism. And make sure you're drinking the water, not restricting your fat intake, and not filling up on high calorie foods such as cream.

InkyToesies · 16/10/2017 10:00

Hello. It's so good to know that everyone else is doing this, and reading about your responses to your results is very helpful.

I'm 3 pounds down and into the 12s by half a pound. I know I should be pleased but this is where I usually wobble (pardon the pun). I overthink it, compare to others, logic goes out the window and self-sabotage 'voices' go into overdrive.

I think I'll skip weighing for a few weeks and focus on the process rather than the results - this has worked for me in the past.

I've been reviewing last week's food diary and these are my thoughts:

Not enough veggies.
Not enough water.
Is it part of this WOE to eat as much cheese, egg mayo as possible? Pretty sure it's not ! I think I've read BIWI saying to eat until you're satisfied. So that needs to be sorted.

Also, more exercise. Or even more moving about would do. Sitting on my bahookey reading Mumsnet Bootcamp thread does not count.

KOKO. Thank you to BIWI in particular and to everyone else for helping me along.

PS. Under no circumstances should anyone try the slow cooked sprouts recipe I mentioned in the last thread. The whole thing was beyond vile.

Thee wasn't even a persistent cabbagey smell, which although not attractive, is bearable. This smelled like a burst in the gas mains. It was evil and permeated the whole house. It took a lot longer than the recipe said so it was 7 hours before it was unleashed from the slow cooker. It got worse then, like what I imagine a chemical weapon is like.

I thought it might be one of those 'smell atrocious but taste good' affairs, like ripe Camembert, durian fruit etc. Nope. Utterly vile and I want to boak (not making it up) even typing this. It's gone into the food waste bag, and into the caddy outside til bin day, but the stench is still escaping. Bin day's not until Thursday.

StuntNun · 16/10/2017 10:01

NSEA I would try upping your water and your fat for the next couple of weeks. Sometimes all it takes is a dessert spoonful of olive oil on your lunch salad and some melted butter on your veggies at dinner to tweak your fat macro into a more optimal zone.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 16/10/2017 10:02

Jumping I updated spreadsheet for you. Well done by the way.

singadream I updated for you as well but it showed your start weight at 255 so "only" a five pound loss. Should thatbhave been 256? I can update original weight if you like. Either way, well done.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 16/10/2017 10:04

Grumpy, sounds like a good plan. Looking good naked is certainly not an aim of mine! As you say, being fit and healthy is what one should aspire for. My dodgy knees are better, and I can go up stairs, so that's enough for me for now!

twinkledag · 16/10/2017 10:04

I had a crap first week BUT my mind is back into it so let's do this :)

I'm going to start properly from today.

Scabbersley · 16/10/2017 10:10

I THINK I have added myself to the spreadsheet. A 5lb loss which I am very pleased with. I need a few more ideas for meals this week as I am getting bored = danger zone!!

B: nothing
L: don't know
D: don't know

Veryflummoxed · 16/10/2017 10:11

BIWI thanks for new thread
Jumping I cant update on my phone.** I don’t think it’s possible
Don’t loose heart Carby you’ve been doing this for a while.**
Timbuktu too lively to sleep is quite common.** It does settle down though and then sleep quality is often better than before

Not caught up yet but posting this before I loose it again.**

Scabbersley · 16/10/2017 10:12

My danger zones are: not planning meals far enough ahead so not eating enough then binging Blush

Always trying to 'cheat' in some way - although I haven't this week.

I am thinking about carbs A LOT - this happened after about day 3. Pasta and Lidl apple turnovers feature reguarly in dreams!!!

Scabbersley · 16/10/2017 10:13

Oh and my sleep hasn't improved, if anything its got worse. Awake at 3am every night for the last week or so. Am drinking lots and taking magnesium.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 16/10/2017 10:15

PS. Under no circumstances should anyone try the slow cooked sprouts recipe I mentioned in the last thread.

Grin sorry, Inky but I got a big laugh from your description.

About to weigh...

singadream · 16/10/2017 10:18

Thanks @cleareyesfullhearts. Ah, my mind playing tricks! still chuffed with 5lbs! x

poorbuthappy · 16/10/2017 10:18

I’ve stayed the same.
But I am in week 9 and last week was period so unexpected.
So KOKO everyone!!!!!

poorbuthappy · 16/10/2017 10:18

NOT unexpected.....Hmm

ClearEyesFullHearts · 16/10/2017 10:19

Jumping and flummoxed if you want to have access to the spreadsheet from a mobile phone you can download an app called Sheets. It's free.

wecantallbeperfect · 16/10/2017 10:35

I'm back exercising this week after injuring my hip running Confused. My eldest DD is a full time professional footballer and yesterday she brought her mini trampoline for me to try Rebounder exercise GrinShe tried it first (we found a fat loss video on YouTube) she loved it said 15 mins is equivalent to around 30-40 minute run SmileShe did say though that I should buy the proper Rebound trampoline as it had more 'give' in it and would impact less on the dodgy joints Grin
