Still here, sort of! Need to post to get this on my TIO.

Getting frustrated with the bride to be! I work with her so see her daily. She tells me she doesn't want any of us to have to diet for the wedding then in the same breath tells me that the other bridesmaid says she's dieting but she has seen her eating pizza Shock

I mentioned to someone else that the dress I had felt tight if I was sitting and bride immediately asked me if we needed to go back to the bridal shop!

FFS Angry

Sorry, rant over!

SayrraT · 15/09/2017 09:43

Oh sorry, totally meant to say that I'm so so sorry to hear about your fiancé's dad jim Sad but you look absolutely stunning in your dress, it's gorgeous. So glad you've been able to bring the wedding forward.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/09/2017 10:05

Sorry for not coming back sooner to thank everyone for the advice re my mum's diabetes. I do truly appreciate everyone who replied and will pass the info on to her.

The last couple of days have been busy (hence not thanking you all earlier). I've been moonlighting with a film company this week which sounds far more exciting than it really was. Had to get up far too early 6ish, and spent many, many hours standing around in the cold, surrounded by lots of people who know each other and know what's going on. Really not the best environment for an introvert!

Foodwise has gone from being really good (ignored all the toast and biscuits that were lying around, and all the obvious carbs available for lunch yesterday) to not brilliant (couldn't resist the cakes thrust under my nose the other day, as, tbh, I had no idea when I'd get home for dinner, but only had a v tiny square of brownie; and let myself have two bits of sausage covered in sauce at lunch yesterday, but the chicken I was really having was a dry as the Sahara, so I was grateful for the sauce!).

C4 - I'd love to join you in Copenhagen! I'm sure you'd appreciate my need for space and let me be an anti-social bitch. Hope you manage to avoid the skids as much as possible and can enjoy your holiday.

I still don't know when the friend is arriving on Sunday, so whether he'll want dinner or not, and doubt I'll find out until the day. Nor do I know how long he's staying. These details don't bother DP so he's not worried about finding out. I suspect I may do lots of hiding late in the evenings in my office next week. And, presumably, the weekend after.

Anyway, I'm back to my usual lunch today of salad and yoghurt. Dinner will probably be cauliflower cheese, if I'm still awake by then. It took me many hours to get round to making dinner last night as I was so shattered and not at all hungry. Hopefully I won't be so bad tonight.

Grah fasting is a lot easier when you're already eating low carb. I've managed 24 hours without any problems. There is a learning curve to fasting and how to manage it. It's also important to realise that you are replicating primitive man's feast-and-famine lifestyle. As Tempus says you have to eat well after the fast. The purpose of extended fasting for weight loss is to force your body to use up its fat stores without decreasing metabolism. Done correctly your metabolism should actually increase slightly during your fast. It also improves insulin sensitivity, promotes healing in a cellular level and can even extend your lifespan (based on animal models). The current research suggests that a 36-hour fast 2-3 times a month gives you the most bang for your buck. But there are many different forms of fasting that all offer varying degrees of benefits:

16:8 is an 8-hour eating window 3-7 days per week (some people do 18:6 or other combinations).

Warrior fasting is mainly eating within a 4-hour window but allowing snacks in the fasting window (good for people doing intense exercise such as bodybuilding).

5:2 is two low calorie days per week (500 for women, 600 for men).

Alternate day fasting is either low calories every other day or no calories every other day.

24-hour fasting is usually from dinner one day to dinner the next day. (This is pretty easy if you're already doing 16:8 as you're just skipping lunch as well.)

36-hour fasting is usually from dinner one day to breakfast two days later.

Longer fasts are usually water only but supported by multivitamins and extra electrolytes if needed.

If anyone wants any more information then do let me know. I'm considering running a fasting group after the next Bootcamp as we had quite a lot of interest last Bootcamp.

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 15/09/2017 11:26

Hi everyone I weighted myself I'm 9 Ib down from from when I started out 5weeks ago - I'm really pleased with it as it's the first time in over 2/3 years I've actually lost any weight - apart from having a stomach bugs etc. I've had stalls in the 3rd and 4th week but I think it's better coming off slowly but surely than rapid flash in the pan type weight loss. I've probably got another stone and a half to go as I want to get to under 11 stone then I'll try keeping it under 11. I know this is nothing compared to what some of you have achieved, but I'm pleased with myself

Stuntnun I want to work towards some fasting like 8:16 - I'm still psyching myself up for it though - getting used to longer gaps between meals and used to feeling hungry without going into a panic about it. M y DH has done 5:2 for about 4 years and maintains it now - he loves it as a woe but me,I didn't enjoy doing 5:2 I kept overeating on non fast days to make up for the fast days and I got a bit obsessive about food

Jim sorry about your FIL

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 15/09/2017 11:27

Bl==dy predictive text --- I mean I weighed myself

StuntNun · 15/09/2017 13:31

NOMORE there is a physiological adaption to regular fasting. In Terence Kealey's Breakfast is a Dangerous Meal he explains that regular fasting increases insulin sensitivity during the eating window whereas if you don't fast then some meals will fall within a period of higher insulin resistance. Put simply, this means that you can lose more weight eating exactly the same amount of calories if you eat within an 8-hour window instead of a 12-hour window.

StuntNun · 15/09/2017 13:36

NOMORE I use a yogurt maker or the Instant Pot to make yogurt so that I can easily keep it at the correct temperature. I heat 2 litres of whole milk to 82°C then add 600ml double cream and reheat it to 82°C, stirring it to make sure it is evenly heated. I then cool the milk to between 43 and 46°C by placing the bowl in a sink of water and ice. Then I mix in the starter and let it culture for 14 hours. I like Greek yogurt so I put the bowl into the fridge for a few hours to set then strain it through muslin for an hour or two. You can freeze the whey to use as the starter for the next batch or you can use it in e.g. smoothies.

starsky22 · 15/09/2017 14:34

wombatoo thanks for the new thread

jim I am so sorry to hear about your future FIL, but pleased that you have been able to re-arrange the wedding and you look amazing in your dress, good luck with all the wedding organising and please do post some photos of your big day!

C4 What a nightmare, hope the rest of the trip is less stressful and well done for taking the highroad and getting a new jacket!

grimbles I see that Yolo has already had BIWI's stick out, but I agree 3 days is not a stall! It's perfectly normal for scales to stay the same for that long or longer and remember, as long as there is an overall trend downwards, then you are good. Also don't just measure progress by the scales, measure yourself, take photos, look at how clothes are fitting etc. Even if the scales aren't moving things are changing and you just need to koko and the scales will catch up at some point!

twinklestar I find planning is the key, so I would choose your favourite low carb meals and plan out your meals for the next few days, then stock up on all the food you need.

ilove bless your Mum, I'm glad she is being supportive

Nomore congrats on the weightloss, great news! Stalls in 3rd and 4th weeks are very normal.

I've lost the 2lbs I put on at the weekend, but my SSS didn't last long, considering I only started and Monday! I was at a drinks do last night and ended up have some carby canapes, but couldn't resist the mini yorkshire puddings with rare roast beef! Thankfully there was low carb canapes too, so had grilled halloumi, lamb and chicken wrapped in pancetta and some duck pancakes and salmon blinis

Yesterday
B fasting
L chicken caesar salad with bacon and poached egg
D canapes and an elderflower drink

Mimosa1 · 15/09/2017 14:59

Yolo I think I needed to hear hot mini lecture as it's been 3 days of staying the same on week 3 and was feeling a bit down in the mouth about it. Koko.

twinklestar2 · 15/09/2017 15:06

Thank you star for the advice :)

I had lunch from outside rather than from home - food always tastes nicer when someone else has prepared it somehow?! I had a chicken leg with lots of veg from the salad bar - green beans, broccoli, red and white cabbage, gherkins, jalapenos, spinach, olives, tomato, cucumber and roasted cauliflower. Fill up a box for £3.70! Can't go wrong!

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 15/09/2017 15:36

Thank you Starsky

Thanks Stuntnun I'm going to try it 8:16 - I'm going to choose a day and not eat breakfast then have lunch and dinner at my normal times. Does it matter if you gave 2 cups of ground coffee on waking?

KOKO everyone

StuntNun · 15/09/2017 15:55

NOMORE as a rule of thumb you can have up to 50 calories during your fast period so a couple of cups of coffee is fine (the caffeine can also help reduce hunger) so long as you don't add cream or coconut oil/butter. Make sure you drink plenty of water. On the intermittent fasting group for the last Bootcamp we found that it was pretty easy to get the day's water in before lunch time. Also thirst often presents as hunger so if you feel peckish, a big drink of water can work.

Yes please to fasting group Stunt
Fab jacket C4, looking good. I suggest you find another way to be spiteful Grinhope you're not on your own too long this evening.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 15/09/2017 17:26

Pizza places almost always have salad bars.

I think you should go out to dinner with them. Why does anyone else get to decide what you want to do? Why does anyone else get to decide what you can do?

wombattoo · 15/09/2017 17:43

C4 The jacket looks fab. I agree with ClearEyes. They don't get to decide for you.

ilovecherries · 15/09/2017 18:02

Love the boots, C4. Your DH is not coming out of this covered in glory :(

Stunt, I'd love another fasting thread. 16:8 has just become second nature now, I don't even think about it. Very occasionally - maybe once every 10 -14 days I will have breakfast because I know there will be no lunch, but otherwise I'm down to eating twice a day, within about a 7hour period. I'd like to start experimenting with longer fasts though.

StuntNun · 15/09/2017 19:07

C4 I'm sorry to hear everything has gone so pear-shaped. Can you grin and bear it?

Mimosa1 · 15/09/2017 19:16

Oh C4 sounds ghastly - I'm really sorry you're having such a shit time, especially given the.
effort it took to get there. You're writing is so good though, it's enjoyable to read the updates iyswim. I hope things improve and I'm in awe your sticking to the diet, considering.

ilove and stun how have you found fasting accelerated weightloss and how soon after starting bootcamp did you start if you don't mind me asking?

Had a very snacky day today, but all the foods were ok on this woe (better than the toast toast and more toast I would have had a few weeks ago!) Took the LO out in a sling for the first time - he loved it, so planning to start walking with him which should up the exercise.

c4 i would be fuming on top of the earlier livid. I suggest that you WEAR the jacket out of spite!
Stay strong. Your Bitches are here for you.

mimosa Smile my motto when I got a bit fed up staying the same weight for 6 weeks was to chill and koko. I'm in it for the long haul.

Namaste everyone else.

YoLoZammo · 15/09/2017 19:55

Cross posted c4. It sounds like you are already making the best of it. Hope you have an uneventful day tomorrow
