Omg Ilove that sounds amazing, enjoy!

OldBooks · 28/08/2017 19:09

ilove that sounds great!

Does anyone know the carb count for white bell peppers? A lot of food here is made with red and yellow pepper which I know isn't great carb wise but prob better than eg cake and bread. But they also use a lot of white peppers and I can't find much on them online Confused

wotabastard · 28/08/2017 19:34

I've never heard of a white one!Confused

Loving everyone's updates and welcome to new folk (all though I'm new too!)

Will reply more later!

OldBooks · 28/08/2017 19:42

Hungarian white bell peppers. Typically eaten at breakfast spread with pate or cheese. Also used in cooking eg stuffed with mince or fried with onions and tomatoes

Can I interject just to say, "Yuck" because I hate peppers in all their forms, red, green, yellow, white, polka dots except really finely chopped chili peppers

But I recognise that that is my problem Wink

Montypulciano · 28/08/2017 20:10

Evening all!

I wonder if I might join the chat please. I am a long term low carber but need to get back on it and lose 2 stone. Eek. I am going away on half term (about 8 weeks I think) so I will aim for a stone by then.

Look forward to gettinb to know you all Smile

lilydaisyrose · 28/08/2017 20:23

I've never seen a white bell pepper!

I'm having a really hungry day today. My tummy feels really empty and I felt a bit dizzy when bending over to put the shoppping away. I've stuck to plan but have a big hungry growl going on in my tum! Does anyone have any low cal snack ideas (not eggs or olives or cheese as I've already had lots of these today and have no nuts in the house) please?

B - ham spread with philly cheese
Creamy coffee.
S - queen olives & cups of tea
L - avocado, boiled eggs, mini mozzarella balls, tomato and basil (pic attached)
T - bolognese & grated cheese
= 48g carbohydrates

So I've been to see the puppy, she's cute, calm and gorgeous both parents really well behaved and not snappy, yappy very beautiful and are obviously really loved and well cared for. The only thing putting me off is the owners who both chain smoke so the experience of seeing the pups was not a pleasant one.
She is the perfect age, the colour we want so her smelling like an ashtray is not really a good reason not to buy her.

Food today

B yogurt and berries
L porkscratchings
D belly pork & salad

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 28/08/2017 20:35

Oidbooks Great!! You gotta laugh too 😀

ilovecherries · 28/08/2017 20:43

Lily, are you eating enough green leafy veg and fat? I'd have had dome spinach with that breakfast, with a butter sauce, then lettuce, Cumberland olive oil with your lunch then loads of oily veggies with that dinner, e.g. Butter fried courgetti, cabbage or brocilli. I find it's fat and veg that really fill me up.

Hello all
Well I have fucked myself right up since stopping bootcamp. Kept up with precisely no good habits and put on 1/2 the weight I lost.
I'm going shopping tomorrow for low carb things and going to try to get back on it. Will try to hang out here again if I can

ilovecherries · 28/08/2017 20:46

As for an emergency snack, I've had full fat yoghurt with a spoonful of cream stirred in, sliced chorizo quickly pan fried, exploded baby bel (sorry, cheese!), some green veggies quickly softened in butter, tuna in oil or mayo as well as all the usual things you mention (and OTHER people eat pork scratchings. Boak. ;)). Also, how much are you drinking?

ASDismynormality · 28/08/2017 20:47

lily I have days when I feel hungry and have found the best thing to do is to eat, I feel I have learnt better how to listen to me appetite. I must admit with me I get really hungry before my period.

C4. The puppy looks really cute. The smoke smell (which I would find really off putting too) is temporary and won't last long once she's with you.

ilovecherries · 28/08/2017 20:48

Cumberland???? Cucumber.

Poor puppies having to breathe that in. But she otherwise sounds lovely and a quick bath when you get her home will sort it out.

Hi everyone. I'd love to join in the thread. I've been LCHF for two weeks tomorrow and have lost 7lbs, making me 213lbs, the lightest I've been since December 2012. I'm 5'9" so BMI and measurement ratios are crap.

I gained a little weight for the first time back in 2008 going from 150lbs to 175lbs. I joined slimming world which I firmly believe made me worse overall. My weight continued to creep until I was 195lbs in 2010 despite dieting the whole time.

Then in my final year of studying I gained 50lbs in 10 weeks putting me at 245lbs. When I had my first son my weight rapidly dropped to 220lbs but until now has stayed there for 2 long years. Have been utterly amazed by the initial drops on the scale.

I don't eat meat but eat fish and dairy.

Today:
B (11am as try to leave first meal as late as poss) 3 egg omelette with onion and parmesan mixed in topped with cheddar
L/snack at 3pm slices of mozzarella
T spinach and ricotta crustless tart/quiche with a pile of butter roasted broccoli and cauliflower

I normally have more veg e.g. a huge salad at lunch or mushrooms and spinach with eggs for breakfast but was craving cheese and onion flavour this morning, as a cheese and onion pasty is one of my favourite things to eat Blush

I drink endless water. I tend to aim for 10% carbs 65% fat and 25% protein. At the moment am frequently breastfeeding so aim for no more than 50g carbs a day but often it's more like 30g.

C4pinkwheels · 28/08/2017 21:37

Welcome Lenl dive on in, check out the spreadsheet and read the tabs at the bottom, questions just ask, post your food each day for people to comment on. Don't be a carby twat, be honest, post your triumphs and disasters.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 28/08/2017 21:46

don't be a carby twat

Best advice ever!! Grin This isn't a WOE that you can cheat on & make up for it later by "being good." If you're a carby twat, you will pay for it for weeks!!

wotabastard · 28/08/2017 21:56

this is a good read!

Especially this post:

I have said this before and will say this again, at the risk of being flamed by the calories-in/calories-out people: this is the only diet that directly attacks the root of the problem with obesity: high insulin levels due to excessive carbohydrate consumption.
Low calorie diets, and lots of exercise also attack the problem but not directly. When you are on a reduced-calorie diet, you are also restricting carbs. When you exercise, you are "undoing" some of the negative effects of carbs (as far as fat tissue accumulation and hormones) through exercise.
Keto is the only diet that directly lowers insulin levels, thus liberating the fat in fat tissue. In the end it's all about lowering your insulin levels and upping your glucagon levels if you want to burn fat.
Icing on that cake is when you become physically active (as you have become) -- it probably speeds everything up tremendously.
All other diets get to this point (if they do at all) with more pain, less gain, and in a roundabout fashion. I say "roundabout fashion" because every time you eat carbs (as you would do in that standard recommended diet you mentioned), and especially if you are already somewhat insulin resistant, you are taking 2 steps back, as it were, from weight loss, at least for a short time. The carbs send a signal to your body and your fat tissue that is the opposite of what you want. "Don't free any fat, and, if anything, STORE!".
Now, I will be flamed by the calorie people. So be it.
I'm just in the Taubes school of thought on this one. I really think that it's all about the carbs and insulin and calories are secondary to that.
And I know someone will say "but protein raises insulin too!". Which is true. But you aren't replacing all your carb calories with protein calories in a ketogenic diet. You are replacing the carb calories with fat calories (which are insulin-neutral!).
And the proof is in the pudding. You are doing everything the same, but you replaced carbs with fats, and are now losing weight faster than you can track it.
Q.E.D.
EDIT: Are you calorie-restriced and low carb or just low carb, ad-libidum eating? I want to know if we are comparing apples to apples here. Because if you are losing weight faster and are eating more calories, that would really be a nail in the coffin of the theory that it's all about calories.

CiderwithBuda · 28/08/2017 22:20

OldBooks - do you live in Hungary? I lived there for six years. Loved it. Just been back for a week. Can't help with carb content of white peppers though!

Well day one went ok.

Breakfast - a nectarine with Greek yoghurt, nuts and seeds (will be stopping that when fruit and yoghurt all gone)
Lunch - chicken and avocado salad with spinach leaves and dressing of Delouis Mayonnaise diluted with EVO and some fete stuffed peppadew peppers
Snack - 2 Babybels
Dinner - Cajun chicken breasts, leeks and kale fried in butter and oil with some Creme fraiche and crushed chillies and some roast veg
Snack - four strawberries chopped and mixed into some cream

And no alcohol! DH had a gin and tonic and I splashed out and had a slice of lime in my water. And DH bless him didn't have any wine. I do need to drink more water through the day too.

Cup of ginger tea watching TV.

wotabastard · 28/08/2017 22:29

Good day here! I feel like my body is happy with this thing I'm doing. I ate meat today which I haven't done properly in a while. I get a bit creeped out by it now and again. But I noticed a huge difference in appetite after having bacon this morning, it really kept me going a lot longer than I'm used to.

@C4pinkwheels I hate it when people smoke around their pets, it's like smoking around a baby to me. Angry

On the subject of 'cheating' on this woe, although I'm new, I think you have to be all in or not bother and find something else. If you really want the results 'all in' is going to be worth it ten fold.

The threat of carb flu returning is enough at the moment to stop me wanting to break the plan. You are wanting to change your weight, food choices, health situation whatever, that decision is worth more than a bottle of wine or going mad with a chinese take-away. So many times in my past, I have binged, or slid into unhealthy eating patterns after 'trying' to be good, and I think I've got to a point where enough is enough (although I'm sure I've said that before! Confused) I want the athletic, healthy body I had a few years ago, and the confident personality that went with it again. Thing is, I've also wanted to abuse myself with shitty eating and 'oh well, maybe this is me from now on' thoughts. 'it's all I deserve' Well no, we all deserve a whole lot more, and if that means having a sober party or holiday where we make mindful food choices to stick with the plan then that's what we have to do.

Having one foot in the keto thing is only going to reinforce the 'nothing works for me' or the 'i'm not worth it anyway' mindset. At least give it 8 weeks all in, and eat enough fat and drink enough water! Those things are absolute key. You won't be hungry and that will stop you thinking about other things....like wine....chocolate...pringles.

I've actually noticed not once since I've started this have I had the urge for a beer or a glass of wine. I think it's because I'm full! Properly satisfied on quality calories. I think a lot of the time reaching for the white wine on an evening is our body wanting some carbs! I'm not craving them now, fat is our friend. Grin

Also, research your arse off. There are heaps of articles, recipes, websites and forums devoted to this and with such helpful info and support here too it's a really good way to reinforce your decision to choose this way of eating and get you through any mental slip ups.

(hope I don't sound mean or pushy! Blush)

oh and food!

B: 2 unsmoked bacon, 2 eggs, butter for days, cheddar on top

L: steak and spring onion burger fried in butter and oil from butcher, greek salad, feta, evoo all that good stuff

D: *quorn chicken pieces in an amazing butter and cream sauce I quickly made with a slight grating of ginger and garlic and sea salt and black pepper, on top of steamed broccoli.

S: black olives, greek yogurt, creamy coffee

*I know quorn aint the best but it's pretty much zero carb and I won't rely on it, just now and again when I want something quick and don't want eggs. Smile

starsky22 · 28/08/2017 22:37

lily I'm hoping 'low cal' was a typo, we don't do low cal here! Make sure you are getting enough fats, that is what keeps me feeling full, plus lots of water. But if I feel like I need something, then a spoon on peanut butter usually does the job - the Whole Earth mixed seed one is low carb.

C4 Pup is adorable, completely get you with the smoking smell, but if everything else ticks the boxes, then I'd go for it, actually you need to get her asap to save her from the passive smoking!

Adalind Welcome back, don't stay away again if that is what happens! Glad to hear you are getting back on track

Congrats to the losers this week and welcome to the newbies.

Put 2 lbs on overnight, I know it is water retention as I haven't been a carby twat, but it really does my head in, when I have been so "good"! Felt like saying stuff it and having a day off, but I didn't, apart from a few sips of wine this afternoon!

Today:
Brunch - fathead pizza
BBQ dinner - burger, sausages, lamb kebab, halloumi, grilled courgette, avocado, mozzarella & pinenut salad

Had a minor panic, as going on a picnic tomorrow and don't have any eggs to make a frittata, which is my usual alternative to a sandwich, then realised that I have prawns, avocado, goats cheese, cheddar cheese, spinach and can easily make a packed lunch out of that, so pleased we get to eat such yummy food on this woe!

ragz134 · 28/08/2017 22:55

ilovecherries I kind of want to print your post and put it on my wall! Very well said and you are incredibly strong for keeping at it so well. I shall be inspired and take your words with me into Strict September (which begins with a wedding!). Thank you.

Good LCHF day today I think

Breakfast - green pesto courgetti with cheese
Lunch - two boiled eggs with butter
Dinner - red pesto meatballs with mozzarella served with creamed spinach (will attach photo)
Snack - piece if chili cheese.

In hindsight, perhaps too much cheese... But I resisted the draw of both the extra thick cream and the peanut butter, which had been sneaking in as evening snacks.

wotabastard · 28/08/2017 22:57

@starsky22 I went up 2lbs last night too! I don't think I drank enough water yesterday though. I had pretty much had 2 litres by lunch time so I did have a lot in total but I think I could have done with 4 + litres rather than 3ish. I was fairly active and by the time it was bedtime I was quite thirsty.

ragz134 · 28/08/2017 22:57

Sorry, there was meant to be a quote at the start of that, so probably doesn't make much sense as post was on a previous page. Blush
