Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

BIWI · 06/06/2016 07:40

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

Oooh. I've got onion seeds. I can see that working!
I live in Europe, in a small village, and whilst not quite in the middle of nowhere, it's not exactly anywhere either.
My local Aldi (in the next village) is pretty basic. I've not seen cauliflowers in a while, although the posher more expensive supermarket does sell them frozen. I live on chicory instead as that's available in abundance.
In my dreams I fantasise about smoked haddock.......

lisbapalea · 06/06/2016 17:17

I have a tub of hollandaise in the fridge - any ideas for inventive things I could do with it, or should I just do eggs benedict or salmon with hollandaise? Neither of those really appeal so I was wondering if I am missing a trick...

Lunch today was a pesto chicken salad at pret a manger, a bag of kale crisps.

I also just had a few posh pork scratchings which I am washing down with yet another 750ml bottle of water...

Also, I am going to nandos on Wednesday evening - any ideas on which rub / marinade is the best for low carb? I usually go for the skin on chicken thighs.

BIWI · 06/06/2016 17:26

Can I just point out that technically you haven't stalled unless you've gone for several weeks without a loss. It's not unusual to have a week where nothing happens. Weight lost isn't linear. And even if the scales aren't moving, you can still find that your body shape is changing!

So as well as weighing yourself, don't forget to keep on trying clothes that are a bit too tight, and/or measuring yourself.

And here is a really interesting article on the benefits of cutting out sugar

... and when you read sugar, read 'carbs', 'alcohol' etc.

I have updated the spreadsheet.
Fliss - I think you said upthread that you weighed 178 today and somebody said they'd added you. I notice that there is no weight added for you today and last week was 176. Can you just confirm?

Well done to everyone hanging on in there. I see some are disappointed that their loss is only small, but remember that it is very common as BIWI keeps pointing out to have no loss at this stage.

B: ham and philly wraps
L: Chicken salad with mayo and olive oil
D: slow cooked roast lamb with salad and mayo

Nando's have a good online menu which will show you but from memory plain, medium or lemon /herb thighs are best. Avoid coleslaw (beetroot) and have side salad with avocado.

WanHeda · 06/06/2016 18:19

We had pizza chicken tonight, the kids had potato wedges with theirs though.

Equiem89 · 06/06/2016 18:25

I can't wait to weigh myself tomorrow morning. I've been staying at my sisters since my first day last week and she doesn't have any scales. I've been 100% good, hope it shows!

LaserShark · 06/06/2016 18:26

B - Greek yoghurt
L - scrambled eggs with butter, leeks and cheese
D - dh did chicken in tomatoes with chilli and soured cream with broccoli. This is where it went a bit wrong; it had kidney beans in and I did eat a spoonful of them. He's been working so hard to look after us all and has been catering for me brilliantly so I didn't want him to feel bad by me mentioning it or obviously leaving them all.
S - almond milk with cream and a square of dark chocolate. That's becoming a daily habit, rather than a weekly treat and I need to get it back in check.

Have had litres and litres of sparkling water and a couple of black coffees. Not been feeling great today.

WanHeda · 06/06/2016 18:28

Laser, I have got into the habit of a daily sq of dark choc too.

Flisspaps · 06/06/2016 18:56

Wombat that's right my lovely, 2lb on Sad thank you x

wombattoo · 06/06/2016 19:28

It's done Fliss. I didn't mean to cause any embarrassment Thanks

SayrraT · 06/06/2016 19:28

Right, I am trying once more to post!

I sts this week which is fine with me, just glad my weights not up!

Been very busy this week as we hired a floor sander and we've sanded and vanished most if the rooms in the house.

Ran out of enthusiasm and have one bedroom left but we need to do a lot on that room so it doesn't matter.

Sanding is much harder than I thought it would be!

margaritasbythesea · 06/06/2016 19:28

Hello All!

I'd like to know about the Mediterranean low carb too Buda if there are any top ideas.

Titsa- how is the hospital stay going.

I'll be weighing tomorrow morning. I'll put whatever these new new scales say. My mind is boggling trying to work out the differences.

Mookbark · 06/06/2016 19:53

I love Cathermeral's cauliflower excitement. Grin
I've had a good day, I do find it easier food-wise when I am at work. I do tend to eat when I am bored, although I'm trying to break that habit.
Just had salmon with a pesto/cheese crust and roast veg. It was lovely and very filling.
DH has decided to stop eating dairy, so he had his without cheese. I'm not entirely sure why he's decided this, but may make dinners a bit more tricky.

lisbapalea · 06/06/2016 19:55

Ooh quite excited about nandos now I have checked the menu - will be going for thighs in medium spice with a side salad plus half an avocado plus grilled halloumi!

Just polished off an amazing tuna salad which used up loads of low carb loveliness that was leftover from the weekend's barbecuing. I am now stuffed but am washing it all down with ANOTHER 750ml bottle of water.

I WILL LOSE WEIGHT THIS WEEK!! (positive mental attitude and all that....)

feekerry · 06/06/2016 20:02

Not weighing in today. Massively have lacked enthusiasm and will power last 2 weeks. Got into habit of eating way too much processed meat like bacon and sausage etc. Haven't eaten fish in the last 2 weeks which is hugely unlike me. Fallen into bad habits.
Holiday in 4 weeks time so need to get back on it. Going to uber bc for next few days to kick start and cut the cravings. X

SingToMeInFrench · 06/06/2016 20:05

B: BPC two boiled eggs
L: omlette, green beans, ff Greek yoghurt
D: butter chicken. Made with LOADS of fat (coconut oil, butter, cream...)
S: two squares of 85% chocolate

There's not enough veg in there ...Blush

Pisseslikeahorse · 06/06/2016 20:09

The moan 'the camping went south fast, it was cold and I was pissed off, I'm suffering from not being able to run and shitty job with a worthless boss and lazy colleague'
What I am now doing is getting back on the horse and excepting that I've got to buckle down turn another leaf start all over picking myself up and dusting myself off etc etc - And work hard at not being a twat

B. Coffee cream
L. 3 eggs ham
D. Pork rashers and veg
water lots

StrawberryLeaf · 06/06/2016 20:09

Happy weigh day, some great losses and every loss is good!

I am down about half a pound which is great. I was away on holiday last week, back on the plan on Friday, checked my weight on Friday morning and I was up 5 pounds but it just dropped away again over the weekend. Must have been water retention from the carbs and booze! Hope it stays off.

Have been pleased I've managed to easily get back on the plan too.

Food today;

B - Greek yoghurt creamy coffee
L - tuna and boiled egg and salad
D - roast pork and crackling and salad and asparagus
S - couple of creamy coffees, picking at the pork and crackling after it was cooked, some strawberries and blueberries

Veryflummoxed · 06/06/2016 20:10

Work going on in the house again meant I couldn't get to my kitchen again, (still can't). Before bc it would have been excuse for an F and C take away night but it was easy to resist. was a good job I woke early and had that breakfast. So food for the rest of today, mainly bottled sparkling water as I couldn't get to the tap but had my full quota

2 bags of pork scratchings. Confused
Left over chicken with the skin on. Mayo and leaves from the bag. Looking forward to getting the kitchen back tomorrow.

Flisspaps · 06/06/2016 20:10

Thanks wombat Smile

saffynool · 06/06/2016 20:15

No breakfast but some Greek yogurt and a few blueberries once I got into work.
Lunch was some delicious barbecue chicken (though can't guarantee there wasn't sugar in the marinade)... and a few sweet potato fries. Oddly, they soon began to taste way too sweet and 'claggy', which was probably a blessing in disguise.
Dinner - low carb sausages with courgetti fried in butter and some steamed Savoy cabbage.

Plenty of water and a couple of cups of divine tea pigs liquorice and mint tea.

FinallyHere · 06/06/2016 20:23

Another one clambering back on the horse, and reading everyone's progress with awe.

I had a celebration meal, which turned into the day, the week, the week, eeek into the second week. But no more, i kept busy at work and have eaten well today. Lovely Yoga class and I'm blissed out ready for MN followed by an early night. No more slip ups, i feel sooo much better when i cut the carbs.

Thanks all, I'm back in the room.

Gcalgske · 06/06/2016 20:42

Welcome back everyone Wink

Food wise today I had black coffee at breakfast. I'm doing IF but its only because I'm not hungry at breakfast. My loss at the moment is amazingly easy so I guess it's working (that plus keeping my protein sensible)

Got hungry at 14:00 so had an avocado chopped up in hm spicey Marie Rose sauce and a couple of pork ribs with a coffee with cream.

Dinner was a huge stir fry of broccoli stalks, florets, bean sprouts, shallots, spring onions, tiny bit red pepper, garlic, chilli, ginger. All cooked in soya sauce/lime juice/sesame oil/chilli oil/ lime juice and sugar free 5 spice powder. Served with a pan roast pink duck breast (which had also had a generous sprinkle of 5 spice). Divine.

I'm stuffed.
