Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

BIWI · 06/06/2016 07:40

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

Oh neko that's a shame. I make a really nice microwave cake I'll post to the recipe thread for you. It takes about 2 mins to whip up and is actually good for those emergencies.

NotdeadyetBOING · 12/06/2016 21:19

Hi all. Catching up with posts.

Interesting about home made mayo tasting weird if just made with extra virgin olive oil. I was planning on trying to do just that - thought we weren't supposed to have vegetable oil. If all olive oil is too much - what other oil can be used???

I went to a birthday party last night and was very proud of my efforts. Buffet so was able to keep to olives, salami, avocado, mozzarella and the odd bit of broccoli salad. Oh - and loads of cheese. Drank water. Felt most virtuous.

Today was less ideal. Morning was fine (FF yogurt and some baby bels), but we were invited to lunch and they'd made slow cooked lamb (fine) with macaroni cheese….. I had a smaller portion of the mac cheese than everyone else, but still had it. Hard not to without being rude. Had lots of berries for pudding and swerved the ice-cream. Drank water.

Lots of cheese for supper (not exactly a balanced meal, but could have been worse).

saffynool · 12/06/2016 21:26

Tonight's dinner - sea bass with buttered leeks and spinach. Dp used more than half a pack of butter to cook two platefuls! Even I, who has been known to spread butter in a slice of cheese as a snack, was like 'that's a LOT of butter!' Twas delish though.

stilllovingmysleep · 12/06/2016 21:28

doingitformyself that looks gorgeous! Will make it myself.

Princess can't be sure and others who are more experienced may offer other opinions but I think what you have eaten is fine and very healthy!

saffynool · 12/06/2016 21:28

notdead just use ordinary olive oil for mayo, not the extra virgin stuff. So the light yellowy one rather than the heavy greenish one!

Thank you, Saffy! Am going to give it a try tomorrow. High time I learnt how to make my own especially since I am now eating it in industrial quantities

BIWI · 12/06/2016 21:48

Back - it's a bit difficult to tell from the way you've written it out, but it does look like you might not be eating very much.

Friday

Boiled egg
Goat's cheese
Ceasar salad no croutons, small amount of dressing
Steak, 2 fried eggs, salad, cabbage, green beans
Coffee with cream

Just one boiled egg? Why a small amount of dressing?

Sat

Chicken legs x 2
Greek yoghurt
Mushrooms fried in butter in cheese and cream sauce
Steak, 2 fried eggs, cauliflower, asparqgus fried in butter, 1 carrot, green beans

Looks OK except for the carrot, which is a bit carby

Today

Salmon
Salad
3 boiled eggs
Ham
Chicken
Coleslaw
Camembert
Cheddar
Strawberries and double cream
Coffee with a teaspoon of full fat milk
1.5 cups of tea with a teaspoon of full fat milk

Homemade coleslaw? Why a teaspoon of milk in your coffee?! And 1.5 cups of tea?!

The way you've written things here looks like you are possibly being a bit controlling - you haven't specified numbers or quantities or specific meals, and when you've listed quantities, it's been to emphasise that they're small/limited, which worries me.

Also, there's a lot of dairy here, so that might be something to consider.

And - how much water have you been drinking?

OP posts:
BIWI · 12/06/2016 21:52

princess

B- BPC - before training
B2 Full fat homemade greek style yoghurt (strained and cultured with cream)

sounds lovely!

L- HM tom yum soup with choi sum, chicken and prawns and coconut milk, coriander. Prob 6-9g carbs per serving.

Also lovely

D- pablos chicken (hemsley and hemsley - ground almonds as a coating), with lime coleslaw and mayo. 5 strawberries and a slosh of cream.

Sounds lovely, but potentially quite carby, with the combination of almonds, coleslaw and the fruit

is it ok dairy wise? Too many carbs - yoghurt and ground almonds? - estimate i had 25g of ground almonds as a coating. Too little fat?

Could be a little light on fat, but difficult to tell from what you've written. If you're worried, doesn't do any harm to make sure you add more!

I have had 3-4litres of water and have done HIIT and played tennis - badly!

Fab!

Overall sounds pretty good.

Notdead Where did you get the idea that we aren't allowed to use vegetable oil? Confused Have you read Bootcamp rules?!

The reason it's not recommended to use extra virgin olive oil for mayonnaise is that the flavour is simply too strong.

Veryflummoxed · 12/06/2016 22:00

I didn't eat till we had late lunch at 2 30 I had

One sausage LC
two bacon rashers
Three poached eggs with butter
Mushrooms fried in butter
Celeriac mash, lots of butter
Purple sprouting lots

I was then unable to eat anything else. (I'm sure most people won't be surprised but I was)

Black and mint tea. Only just over two litres of water, I should have three and a half so still Hoping the tea might count

princessconsuelabannahammock · 12/06/2016 22:33

Thanks all. Strawberries are a weekend treat, as was the coated chicken - i missed something crunchy -it was very tasty. I tried to keep the coleslaw to a small portion then smothered the whole thing in mayo!

I have had wine and a meal out this weekend so will be doing uber bootcamp this week.

backonthewagon · 12/06/2016 23:23

I did not finish the cup if tea - it wasn't purposely only 1/2 a cup and I like it strong so always only have that much milk regardless of dieting. Normally I eat 2 or 3 eggs but I had not been shopping so that's all I could have. The ceaser salad was in a pub so as I did not know the carb content I thought it best to play safe with a small amount of dressing. I don't weigh my food so not sure how I could list quantities and I tend to graze in the day as I don't always get time for 3 meals a day with work. The coleslaw was shop bought 3g per 100g I think. There is quite a bit of dairy but I did bootcamp last year and dairy didn't affect me. I assumed it affected you or it didn't or can it sometimes affect you and sometimes not? I drink 2-2.5 litres. More if I can include tea/coffee but not sure if that counts towards it?

eleven59 · 13/06/2016 06:08

I'm still here but haven't posted all week because I've been away. Kept to the rules with the exception of wine (visiting family).

I've lost 1.7lbs this week. Very happy with that.

Still finding running hard going.

stilllovingmysleep · 13/06/2016 06:44

Hurray! Just updated my weight on the spreadsheet & finally saw quite a substantial weight loss from last week! I've lost 2.6 kilos overall on BC so far (which is 5.73 pounds I think, approximately). Obviously it's not quick weight loss but if I think that we've done 4 weeks so far, that's 1.4 pound a week on average which is not terrible and actually quite sustainable.

I'm very pleased! As I always say, the main thing is not feeling hungry & having so much more energy. I still haven't gone out to buy any new clothes/shoes although I really need them, but today I treated myself to a nice spiralizer as a reward for reaching a certain weight & staying under a particular limit for over a week.

Wishing everyone else some good news for the spreadsheet & a good week ahead.

By the way, wanted to ask, now that we're starting week 5 do we still continue more or less with the same eating plan? which basically mean BC plus some nuts/berries? Or do we continue to add slowly other food groups too? If the latter, I'm planning not to add anything until the end of BC as I'm perfectly happy as I'm eating now & am losing weight steadily. But wondered how it works.

margaritasbythesea · 13/06/2016 07:03

Two pounds off here too. I'm very pleased about that as have been away with work this weekend and it hasn't been possible with all the travelling to drink enough water or eat very well. Yesterday's booked lunch was tomato soup and sandwich. I complained of indigestion and snaffled cashew nuts - probably too many - and babybels on the coach instead. I've had wine too, so pleased.

I'm sorry I haven't been posting but I have been reading.hope everyone has a good weigh in.

NotdeadyetBOING · 13/06/2016 07:03

Morning all.

BIWI - I got confused about vegetable oil because I bought The Diet Revolution which is also all about LCHF eating - and they are totally anti vegetable oil so just assumed it was a general 'thing'.

Found 'the rules' last night on that spreadsheet with various pages which was great. I had stumbled across this thread before so hadn't realised there was any spreadsheet other than the one with the weights.

More of a full signed up (or at least fully informed) member now!!

stilllovingmysleep · 13/06/2016 07:06

NotDead, I have extra virgin olive oil with almost everything (which counts as a vegetable oil doesn't)? I think it's very good for you, it's just the basis for most of the dishes I cook. I do add butter though to things like cauliflower mash or celeriac mash.

BIWI · 13/06/2016 07:07

Titsalinabumsquash · 13/06/2016 07:10

Sts this week, saw a lower number in the week but it's back to 142lbs today. Still, I feel and look slimmer so I'm not worried although I'd love to see the scales below 140 soon!

I'm predicting a bloody awful day today. Not food wise though that will be fine.
I had swede chips yesterday done in my actifry with coconut oil and they were amazing.
I had them with a roast chicken leg and broccoli.
I'm turning to Lidl for shopping until the new Aldi opens in town.

Pengweng · 13/06/2016 07:17

I've had entirely too much fun in the Cotswold. Bugger! Oh well it was my only holiday this year so back on it today.
