Morning all

<a class="break-all" href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

No point me weighing in today as the weekend has been lovely shocking. My official weighing-in day is Friday, so hopefully all will be back to normal by then!

Those of you for whom the scales have slowed/stopped, in weeks 3 and 4, hopefully things will get moving again now.

I'm off to Leeds with work for a couple of days, so who knows what I'll be eating? I have, though, packed some boiled eggs, a pot of Total yoghurt and a couple of sachets of tuna in my little cool box, so I know that I have something to eat if the choices available to me aren't low carb.

Good luck all, and hope this is a good week for all of us

God Gcal that sounds horrendous. You must have been terrified, not to mention in pain.

BIWI · 21/02/2016 19:25

shouldi - definitely sounds like you've got some kind of bug. I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope you can shake it off soon.

But why, why, why did you eat sushi? I'm sorry, but I'm really wondering if you're serious about low carbing. And yet you know that you're carb sensitive? WTF?

shouldiblowthewhistle · 21/02/2016 19:29

I know. I had a stupid week and had kind of written it off LC-wise. I was away with a non LCer who thought it was all a bit silly, got caught out once or twice in terms of food options and then caved in.

I have to start again. Again.

feekerry · 21/02/2016 20:03

Gcalgske got to say I had loads of antibiotics following my 1st child emcs and subsequent infection etc. I now have ulcerative colitis. It started about 8 weeks after my 1st emcs and anti b's. Go figure...!

BIWI · 21/02/2016 20:07

shouldi - have you done any reading about low carbing, and it's long term health benefits? I know that for me once I did this, it was kept me committed (most of the time!) to this WOE. I still go off piste from time to time, but I know that if I do so, I do risk gaining weight.

But it also gives me ammunition to argue with the naysayers!

should I blow the whistle

I'd suggest keeping track of your symptoms versus eating.

Yes it sounds like a bug but....I am highly carbs sensitive too and if I have too much (I am at weight goal btw so permit myself to relax now and then) my body goes totally haywire. Like its being poisoned a bit Shock.

Eating low carbs (almost boot camp levels) is not for dieting any more for me, just about me feeling the healthiest I've ever felt in my life.

shouldiblowthewhistle · 21/02/2016 20:23

BIWI - I've read a lot of the Diet Doctor and Prof Grant's stuff. Maybe I still have a tiny bit of doubt about it. I have slightly high cholesterol (6) and am terrified that I will be in the minority who's cholesterol gets worse. Maybe it's my own lack of full confidence in it - or maybe it's my own self sabotage, or a combo of both. I was thinking I should be metabolically flexible by now and able to handle a few carbs when it was easier to find.

Thing is, when we went for a 4 hour hike, my energy didn't flag at all whereas he had to keep stuffing peanuts into his mouth. So I know it works. At least from that point of view.

I really don't want to go back to lots of carbs ever, really, but I'd like to have the choice. But I have about 5 stone to lose and maybe I'm scared it won't work and that's why I sabotage myself. Maybe I just need to grow up.

Can you recommend any good reading?

Gcalgske · 21/02/2016 20:30

It was should, fee are you ok with cauliflower and broccoli? My sis is UC too and can't stick cruciferous veggies.

shouldiblowthewhistle · 21/02/2016 20:33

Thanks Thelwell. I wil do. Hopefully I won't eat evil carbs like that again and won't get the chance to track Wink.

feekerry · 21/02/2016 20:37

Nope not brocolli and don't eat much cauliflower so not sure but brocolli is a def no for me.
Green and leafy is generally okay but wouldn't purposely eat something that has form of being disruptive to digestive system. I think it's just brocolli makes me more gassy and when you have inflammation the 2 probably don't mix!!!

Mookbark · 21/02/2016 21:18

Hi All. Had a stressful day today as found out my Dad is struggling more at home than we realised. Really difficult, especially when you are 2.5 hours away. There's also no way I can go over this week as I have two full on days at work, then I'm off to Glasgow for work Tuesday evening until Friday evening.
After the long phone conversation I had about him, I just wanted to stuff myself with carbs. I know I'm an emotional eater and I also know if I binge I feel even worse afterwards. So, I went for a run instead. Running to the chant of "fuck it " in my head certainly improved my pace anyway!
Ended not eating great today, but far, far better than it could have been.
B - 2 x creamy coffees
L - cheese, salted almonds and macadamias
D - roast chicken, mashed celeriac and leek, broccoli, green beans. I avoided the trifle MIL brought with her. Espresso with cream.
S - frozen berries and Greek yoghurt.
Good luck for tomorrow everyone. Thanks

Gcalgske · 21/02/2016 21:37

Fee the specific carb diet might be worth a look if you get bad flare ups. I so so so want my sister to go on it but she's a carboholic.

Flowers for mook, you did so well. Should be very proud of yourself in the circumstances.

BIWI · 21/02/2016 21:51

I'm loving the idea of running to 'fuck it'!

You have my every sympathy - my dad was in hospital for 6 months from last Father's day - he's in Leeds and I'm in London. I did at least three frantic trips up there, having been told that he was about to die.

Thankfully he's still with us, but it was massively stressful and disruptive.

And that's just one of the things that makes this WOE hard. The world isn't made for low carbers. All the snacks/foods you can pick up on the go, are all high carb. There just aren't low carb options, unless you've planned ahead.

OP posts:
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 21/02/2016 22:47

Yes! This was nearly my issue last night - in fact I told DH that this WOE was causing me to be a lot more stressed in some ways, because I couldn't sort my mood/irritation out by having some comforting chocolate. I realise that this is a mindset issue, not a physiological one, but Dear God the cravings were bad last night! threenager-related mostly.

MissSmiley - yes, that mostly works for me too, blowing hard in his face, but it didn't when he stacked it on the path, and because of that, it didn't work again the other day, because he also included panic into the situation, which makes the chance of passing out that much worse. We did manage it last night though, when he and DS1 were messing around and fell over each other - I got him breathing by blowing hard in his face, so hopefully we're "over" this cycle again. Growing out of it is the only option we've ever been given, but the age ranges from "by 3" to (according to one site!) "by 8". Jeez.

GCal - I've found that, whenever I have bronchitis (quite regularly, sadly) that the docs take my "preference" for antibiotics into account. I had my sputum tested by the labs I was in when it was bad one year, and they told me what bug was causing it and that it was resistant to all penicillin-based ABs, so I had to have erythromycin instead. So that's what I tell the docs - and that's the AB I get given. If you know what the final AB was that worked for you, then, should you ever be in a position to need ABs again, tell the doc about your sepsis and the name of the AB that did the trick - it should get you past the basic amoxycillin 250 that they seem to start with, and straight onto the stuff that should work.
I tend to agree that early ABs for your DD may well have contributed to her allergy issues - the gut bacteria are very good for helping the immune system to learn its job, so knocking them all on the head from the outset would have disrupted the immune system's learning somewhat.

HammerToFall · 22/02/2016 07:02

Ive started the same today. I didn't have a very good weekend and am so mad at myself for going off plan after sticking to it for five weeks, all alcohol induced so I think I know my answer!! So just KOKO for me this week and an extra hiit session I think Grin

DiscoDancer · 22/02/2016 07:03

Early bird this morning, can someone please add today's weight of 75.5kg please.

My lowest this week was actually 73.4kg which I was ecstatic with, but I need a small kick up the arse to be stricter. Although yesterday was out of my control as the menu had changed at a family function! Also looked up my BMI stupidly yesterday..., nothing like the NHS telling you you're overweight and need to look another 6kg to become healthy Hmm

Anyway hope you all have good losses, being at work is easier for me as I take my own food and have less time to snack. I think I may have overdone it on the cheese this week too so that needs to be monitored.

Keepon - no need to worry about eating too much fat - really! Please do some reading about low carbing and the science behind it as this will help to reassure you.

Thanks thumb you are very good at explaining these things, my hubby was totally thinking if gone a bit hippy loopy blaming anti biotics for her allergies but I think he gets it a bit better now (planning number two and want to avoid antibiotics if we can)Flowers

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/02/2016 10:57

Thanks, Gcal - glad it's helped. :)

MissSmiley · 22/02/2016 23:43

I actually prefer frozen broccoli to fresh. I've only tried waitrose but I can't imagine there's much difference to be honest.

Is boot camp what you do at the start? I'm trying to be really strict as I just can't seem to get going with the weight loss. I lose a couple and then gain a couple. I've been like this since Jan. I just lose hope get less strict and have to start over again.
I'm staying strict this time. And imagining life with less dairy...

BIWI · 22/02/2016 23:44

MissSmiley - have you read Bootcamp rules?
