Morning all

<a class="break-all" href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

No point me weighing in today as the weekend has been lovely shocking. My official weighing-in day is Friday, so hopefully all will be back to normal by then!

Those of you for whom the scales have slowed/stopped, in weeks 3 and 4, hopefully things will get moving again now.

I'm off to Leeds with work for a couple of days, so who knows what I'll be eating? I have, though, packed some boiled eggs, a pot of Total yoghurt and a couple of sachets of tuna in my little cool box, so I know that I have something to eat if the choices available to me aren't low carb.

Good luck all, and hope this is a good week for all of us

If you could add me that would be great. Here are my details and a mini bio!
I was 146 lbs last Monday and I'm aiming for 129 lbs. I'm 43 and have 5 children. I have never been on a diet and have never gained weight apart from during pg until last year. I think it's "my age"! I've recently cut off all my long dyed blonde hair and I am embracing my dark and silver locks. I have done paleo for health before which I loved. I was diagnosed coeliac 3.5 years ago after being ill for years. I think LCHF is the way forward for everyone but I'm struggling giving up the sugar.

shouldiblowthewhistle · 20/02/2016 20:38

Good news re the almond milk fee.

Why oh why haven't I trawled the recipe thread before? I only got to page 6 and have plenty of incredible dishes for the week. I have been eating incredibly dull food for 6 weeks Blush. No wonder I was bored. Off to Aldi tomorrow for a proper shop.

TooExtra cauliflower roasted in coconut oil? YUM!!!

Gcalgske · 20/02/2016 20:46

should alpro unsweetened almond is 0.1g/100ml or blue diamond unsweetened is 0.3g/100ml.

I really like them. If you have a blender (and on BC lite) whizzing a couple of frozen strawbs into a glass with a tbsp u/s dessicated coconut is divine.

Thanks sheba. Blush
I get easily bored plus enjoy cooking and have a ducking picky bastard husband with a very exacting palate so I'm constantly trying to make really good tasting low carb meals so I don't have to cook 3 things at once (then I get stressed, timing one meal is fine, two at a push, anymore and I get a rage on!)
felicity you are not boring anyone. Wink

Flowers for fee you poor thing. I recommend you get some chicken bones in a big pot asap. Chicken broth is super when you feel rotten. I normally blitz a bit of butter in there if I can face it, just to get the fat up. I use chicken wing tips (good fat/skin/meat ratios) and roast the wings normally but when I'm poorly I just whack the whole wings in (saves jointing the wee beggars) Slug of Apple cider vinegar and a tbsp salt and black pepper corns. Cook in slow cooker or on hob fit 8 hours at a bare putter. Then strain it (can retain meat if you want but it can be a bit dry) it's liquid gold. So so good for you and nourishing. My toddler loves it with a few courgette noodles, rice noodles and veg.

Done Miss

AuntieMaggie · 20/02/2016 20:57

On the subject of cinema... what can I take snack wise to stop me buying sweets/choc/popcorn/icecream???

BIWI · 20/02/2016 21:24

Do you have to have a snack? Seriously?

It's just a habit, isn't it?

March into the cinema with your tickets, and go and sit down.

Easy!

Cauliflower popcorn? I'm serious. You break it into tiny florets and toss with lots of olive oil, dried cheese (I use the cheap pre grated 'Parmesan style cheese' stuff in a tub) and spices (chilli powder and lemon zest is my favourite). Then roast at a low temp for ages - around 1-1.5 hours or until really crunchy.

AuntieMaggie · 20/02/2016 21:47

I'm going with a group of friends and going to a bar before and after so thought it would be better to have something handy...

AuntieMaggie · 20/02/2016 21:48

Oooh Gcalgske I'll try that thanks

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 20/02/2016 23:47

MissSmiley - someone on FB suggested that too, so I'll bring it up with the GP and see what they say. DS2 usually does it from pain, but can also do it from temper as well, so maybe not, maybe it's just the so-called "breath holding" thing, even though he doesn't actually hold his breath, he just can't draw breath after crying all his air out.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 21/02/2016 09:08

I used to do the breath holding thing as a child - to force me to take a breath my mum used to sit me on the draining board as it was cold.
Random memory there, though it probably isnt helpful to you if he is fully passing out.

FelicityFunknickle · 21/02/2016 09:25

shouldiblowthewhistle
I feel so much better (and less fat) when I don't drink.

shouldiblowthewhistle · 21/02/2016 09:40

Felicity me too. And I've had some carbs this week and am horribly blocked up with awful abdomen pains. Cheating is just not worth it.

BIWI · 21/02/2016 09:41

Well I do keep telling you! Grin

shouldiblowthewhistle · 21/02/2016 09:53

Grin I'm such a slow and rebellious learner.

I'm slightly sheepish this morning because I read all of the rules and questions thread last night, and realise I've been doing it all wrong. BCP several times a day on the weekends, every morning during the week, not enough veggies, far too much double cream, too big portion sizes of protein, alcohol, skipping meals - the list goes one Blush

I'm sorry.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 21/02/2016 10:02

This week for me has not been a success, so from today i am back on proper bc, not bc lite. Breakfast was scrambled eggs with spinach and mushrooms, lunch will be fish (whatever is in the freezer), mashed swede with butter, fried asparagus and ssibly some broccoli. Dinner will be a bpc.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 21/02/2016 10:04

Shouldi, i've done it this time without the double cream. If its in the fridge, i feel it has to be used up, and then use more than i would. (Plus it is gorgeous!)

So when i've been in a coffee shop i've had it, but at home i've just had black/almond milk

shouldiblowthewhistle · 21/02/2016 10:05

I think it has come to that for me too Beyond. I will mourn the loss of my double cream but look forward to new and better things Grin

Help! Some advice from the more experienced here. I like this WOE because I am less hungry, less snacking & some aches & pains have dissipated ( eg inflammation reduced due to fewer carbs). However, weight not shifting much. I am concerned about dairy in general, but what should I try cutting out/back? Possible culprits - double cream, cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, other hard cheese, sour cream, Greek yogurt? I am not eating any refined carbs, an occasional tablespoon of blueberries, rare small amounts of artificial sweeteners, but I have a feeling the dairy may be an issue? I had the pizza on a quiche base that I thought was fab, but maybe the cream/cream cheese/mozzarella in it not good? Ideas

FelicityFunknickle · 21/02/2016 10:16

I'm going for black coffee more now too.
Sometimes with a teaspoon of coconut oil to make sure I have some fat. Not adding cream to the shopping list today.

FelicityFunknickle · 21/02/2016 10:18

Absolutely must get out for a run too.
But the FCs woke me up at 4am so not really feeling very runny atm.

FelicityFunknickle · 21/02/2016 10:20

Not an expert moanranger but lots of ppl have identified the dairy as a staller.
I have been eating a bit too much cheddar I think.

Gcalgske · 21/02/2016 11:18

As I understand it (awaits stunt with the science bit to correct meHmm if not right) dairy, whilst being low carb can still produce an insulin response in sensitive people (not great for loss as insulin tells the body to store energy not use it up) dairy is full of hormones meant to make a baby cow grow and they can affect you too.

BIWI · 21/02/2016 11:22

From Mark's Daily Apple:

Which brings us to dairy and its effect on insulin.

Dairy intake, you see, stimulates insulin secretion. Lots and lots of it – more than can be explained by the lactose (a sugar) content. In fact, the lactose content of dairy doesn’t even have a big insulin effect when compared to other carbs. This is surprising to some, since the general understanding is that insulin is released primarily in response to carbohydrate intake. What gives? Well, in evolutionary terms, think about a growing beast needing to maximize the utility of every drop of the precious liquid. With dairy, it’s the protein plus the carbs that are responsible for the large insulin release. Take milk, the most egregious “offender.” Both skim and whole milk (PDF) elicit significant insulin responses that you wouldn’t predict from looking at their protein and carb contents, and the fat in whole milk doesn’t blunt it (maybe non-homogenized whole milk would be a different story… I don’t know). Cream and butter are not particularly insulinogenic, while milk of all kinds, yogurt, cottage cheese, and anything with casein or whey, including powders and cottage cheese, elicits a significant insulin response. In one study (PDF), milk was even more insulinogenic than white bread, but less so than whey protein with added lactose and cheese with added lactose. Another study (PDF) found that full-fat fermented milk products and regular full-fat milk were about as insulinogenic as white bread.

What’s going on here? It comes down to the amino acid composition of dairy proteins, specifically the amino acids leucine, valine, lysine, and isoleucine. These are the truly insulinogenic proteins, and they’re highest in whey (which is probably why whey protein elicits the biggest insulin response).

Moanranger can you list out for me your meals (and drinks) over the last 3-4 days and let me see if I can help?
