Low-carb bootcamp

Week 2 - 2016 Low Carb Bootcamp - our first official weigh-in!

Morning campers!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it was a good week, and I hope that those of you who have been suffering from carb flu are starting to feel better. Remember, keep up the electrolytes - sodium, potassium and magnesium. Which means firstly that you have to make sure you're getting plenty of salt - so salt your food during cooking and add salt to cooked food.

For potassium, you could also consider Lo-Salt. Good foods for all electrolytes include salmon, avocado, spinach and full fat (of course!) natural yoghurt.

A note about weighing in

If you're a daily weigher, you have several different options. You can either just record your weight every Monday (or whatever regular day of the week you choose - I am going to start weighing in on a Saturday, because my trainer records my weight as well, to keep me on track!).

Or you can record the lowest weight you achieved in that week

Or you can average your weights and record the average.

Whatever you decide, I hope it's a positive result!

VagueIdeas - if the per serving is that low, then not a problem.

Some great results here, so really well done everyone.

DrDiva whodathunk that I would be right about breakfast? Wink

Once we move on to Bootcamp Light, by which time - if you haven't cheated that is Grin - your blood sugar levels will be stable, you can drop breakfast if you want to. (Or any other meal if you feel you're not hungry).

But the rule of thumb on this WOE is always to eat when you're hungry. As long as you're eating low carb stuff, then it will be fine. As we progress and you become fat-adapted, you're much less likely to feel hungry between meals, but in the early weeks, you can still get quite hungry. It's really important that we don't think we have to starve ourselves - that way madness (and cheating) lies.

However, it's also important to distinguish between real hunger and habit - as someone said upthread (sorry, can't remember who!), snacking is often a habit, rather than something we do because we actually need to eat.

I'm tempted to try and make a cauliflower pizza in a few days. Has anyone done it? Does it taste ok? Is there a strong cauliflower taste?

Report
BIWI · 25/01/2016 19:47

It's great - and no cauliflower taste! The only issue I have had is that I've never been able to get it to be properly 'dry'. You really have to wring the cauliflower out in a clean tea towel after you've cooked it in the microwave, and it will shed LOADS of liquid. I've managed to get it the right kind of texture round the edges, but not in the middle, which suggests that I should have cooked it for longer. (A lot longer than any of the recipes I've used have suggested.)

Next time I make it, I thought I'd make smaller individual pizzas, and that way they should dry out/cook better.

Today:

B: cheese omelette
L: tuna mayo with baby spinach and cucumber plus half an avocado
D: diet dr recipe from BIWI's link - pesto chicken casserole - fry chick pieces then transfer to casserole dish with dbl cream, pesto, feta cheese, garlic and sliced mushrooms. Had it with steamed broccoli and spinach. Twas very rich but satisfying.

Been snacking on too much cheese and too many coffees with more dbl cream. Will do better tomorrow. I know it wasn't genuine hunger - stress related and should have had more water to distract me. Cross with myself!

b - air dried ham, scr eggs, avo with olive oil
BPC
L - omelette stuffed with buttery creamy mushrooms and greens and Brie, only a small portion but filled me up nicely
D - beef curry using pataks rogan josh paste, cauli rice, LC naan-ish (thanks gcal) using coconut flour, much improved by brushing with garlic infused oil after toasting

For those seeking crunch there are some cracker and cracker-bread recipes on the recipe thread, if I have celery or cucumber I spread with butter or there are dill pickles but check label as many have a lot of sugar, I find one of these to be enough

wand hope tomorrow is a better day and guy just wanted to acknowledge your post, sounds like you were due a cocktail or two

who I always do as individual cauli pizzas and make extra as they freeze well and make fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches but a quicker pizza is the fat head one using mozzarella, cream cheese, egg and almond meal in fact that is what we are having tomorrow and again will be individual ones

Also had my 8 cups (2L) of water today, need another 2L yet!

Found it much easier getting the water in with a glass on my desk today, easier to drink from and remember than a bottle.

lex, I haven't seen a recipe for that pizza. Are we allowed almond meal? I assumed it came under nuts and was banned?

Report
BIWI · 25/01/2016 20:33

Trinity - why aren't you eating breakfast? A BPC isn't a substitute for food!

It's a key rule of the first couple of weeks of Bootcamp that you must eat three meals a day.

And - I have to say - it doesn't look like you're eating very much - and that won't help either.

Can someone add my weight for today as 75.7kg please. I missed the boat last week as I wanted to get weighed at boots so I could get a printout but I never got round to it so will have to use my own dodgy scales Grin
