Morning campers!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it was a good week, and I hope that those of you who have been suffering from carb flu are starting to feel better. Remember, keep up the electrolytes - sodium, potassium and magnesium. Which means firstly that you have to make sure you're getting plenty of salt - so salt your food during cooking and add salt to cooked food.

For potassium, you could also consider Lo-Salt. Good foods for all electrolytes include salmon, avocado, spinach and full fat (of course!) natural yoghurt.

A note about weighing in

If you're a daily weigher, you have several different options. You can either just record your weight every Monday (or whatever regular day of the week you choose - I am going to start weighing in on a Saturday, because my trainer records my weight as well, to keep me on track!).

Or you can record the lowest weight you achieved in that week

Or you can average your weights and record the average.

Whatever you decide, I hope it's a positive result!

I love white cabbage! One of my favourite recipes:

Shred cabbage and boil for about 3 minutes in salted water. Drain and set aside

In the pan you boiled it, melt a large knob of butter (at least 25g). When it's melted, add a few sliced shallots to the pan (about 4 echallion shallots), and saute till soft.

Tip the cabbage back into the pan, season with salt and black pepper, and stir well, so that you stir all the shallots/butter into the cabbage. Cover the pan, turn the heat down low, and braise for about 10 minutes.

About 5 minutes before serving, add the juice of a lemon to the cabbage mixture; turn the heat up and cook/fry for another 3-4 minutes until the juices have reduced.

If you like, once you've got it to this stage, where it should be meltingly soft, you can tip it into an oven dish, add a lot of grated cheese to the top and bake it in the oven until the cheese is melted and crispy brown.

the meatzza was topped with mushrooms, spinach and shallot and it was so filling I couldn't manage to eat a veg side dish I don't think.

I've only had a measly 750ml of water but I'll be up for a few hours yet so I'll drink a couple of litres before bed.

B: LC sausage, spinach
L: salman, hollandaise and greens
D: duck breast, mange tout and cauli cheese with leeks.

Mookbark · 31/01/2016 07:38

I'm another daily weighed. I use an app called Happy Scale to monitor it. I like being in control - my DH would be nodding vigorously in agreement if he were here! Apparently, I have put on 1.6 lbs in the last two days. Now, if it stays that way, when I do the weekly weigh in tomorrow, I will only have lost about 0.4 lbs, which I would be a bit disappointed with, but as I've weighed daily and I know I've been following BC 100%, I know it's a blip. I suspect it's a combination of messed up TOTM, DOMS and needing a poo! I know daily weighing doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me.

I see that my Andre crocheting has struck a chord with people GrinI think if you're an emotional eater, DC do just make it that much harder. I can't remember who said they had two teenagers, but I just groaned at the thought. With luck very careful planning, we've ensured we never have more than two teenagers at a time. DS2 is twelve this year, so I've possibly got another year before the major strops start, although he can certainly have his moments.

Sorry, long post, I'm being introspective over my coffee this morning.
Food today:
Brunch: fried eggs, bacon and mushrooms
D - beef in the slow cooker, BIWI's celeriac and leek mash, various other veg
S - 2x creamy coffee, spicy chai latte, maybe leftover pulled pork, babybel.

Good luck with the weigh in tomorrow, everyone. Thanks

Mookbark · 31/01/2016 07:39

Andre crocheting? Grin sounds like ive been trying to crochet the orange one GrinGrin
That should, of course, said angry crocheting.

DrDiva · 31/01/2016 08:23

I have discovered a brilliant way of ensuring that DH can happily scoff chocolate without any temptation for me. Get him to buy those Cadbury eggs that come in the purple egg carton with the little spoon? Sorry, don't know what they are called, non-Brit Cadbury egg-hater here. I have no inclination whatsoever to partake in his chocothon. Win-win!

You love your crocheting...

Mookbark · 31/01/2016 08:33

DrDiva they are called egg and spoon, original name, and I agree that they are foul. My DC like them though.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 31/01/2016 08:48

Breakfast - black coffee, bacon, scrambled egg and mushrooms (in butter)

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 31/01/2016 09:54

I got rid of DH for a few days (work conference) so avoided the carrots tonight! Grin

B - best left unsaid, really.
L - cheese lump, and then Boursin in a large celery stick.
D - lamb sausage (GF, high meat content) with cauliflower that I was going to mash but CBA in the end, and asparagus. DS2 doesn't like asparagus, so the boys had carrots (and mash) but I didn't. Yay me!

I also took the bull by the horns and measured my "waist". It was pretty horrific. I don't really have one, never have had, but it's even worse than it used to be in comparison not only with my hips, but also from the health perspective. I won't be really happy until I've lost 6" off my waist, at least. So that's my goal.

ICJump · 31/01/2016 09:57

Feeling nervous about weighing tomorrow. I think I've been doing pretty well but haven't been writing down.
I'm baby fitting early tomorrow so have boiled eggs to take with me.

BIWI · 31/01/2016 10:03

How do you fit a baby?! Grin

Just as an aside - mookbark - invariably when people say they've followed Bootcamp 'to the letter' I discover that that they haven't ...

If you're gaining weight, it's most likely to be TOTM - but please, please, please check what you've been eating and make sure you're following Bootcamp rules scrupulously - including the one about drinking plenty of water!

Mookbark · 31/01/2016 11:00

BIWI I have, honest.
And, TMI alert, I've had a big poo today, that must be worth a pound or two. GrinGrinGrin

NigellasGuest · 31/01/2016 11:21

Gcalgske and BIWI - thank you for the fabulous cabbage recipes! I want to make all of those! Decisions decisions. Thanks
Will report back later on my white cabbage exploits.

Beyond - I tried the coconut oil how you suggested - I rolled a lump into a ball and rolled it in ground almonds, then refridgerated. I think the amount of ground almonds was negligible TBH; I know they're not allowed on BC. They did make all the difference. When on BC Lite, I am planning to make more up in advance with a single raspberry in the middle of each one.... I think that sounds delish!

MustBeMad How's your tongue? Grin

BIWI · 31/01/2016 12:28

Nigella - I wrote 'shred' the cabbage, but actually I meant 'chop'.

Managed to do in my ankle last night. Fell off a kerb :(

Took a lot of painkillers and woke up feeling really nauseous. Confused

Just now managed a creamy coffeeand a couple of macadamia nuts I found lurking in my bag from Friday. Def an easy cooking day required.

Just hobbled to the kitchen to pop a skinned pork shoulder in the slow cooker with a carton of passata, garlic, oregano, smoked paprika, chilli, apple cider vinegar for pulled pork. Will sweeten with a bit of stevia and some butter at the end.

Managed to stand long enough to wash veggies so made a quick coleslaw too.

Morrisons have pork shoulder at 50% off ATM. Got a huge bit for £5

GuyMartinsSideburns · 31/01/2016 12:59

I'm struggling today. I'm so anxious about Dh it's making me desperately unhappy. I go between feeling positive to just dropping and wondering what's the point really, I'm taking it out on myself and today ive self sabotaged. Feels like I can't breathe until I know he's going to be okay Sad Sorry to derail, hope everyone's doing ok.

Gcalgske · 31/01/2016 13:11

Flowers guy

LexLoofah · 31/01/2016 13:55

guy no need to apologise, glad you posted, thread is not just for food, this is BC so as it is a way of eating rather than a diet it covers much more and of course as many of us know emotional state affects our eating habits Flowers be kind to yourself

BIWI · 31/01/2016 14:14

I'm so sorry, Guy - you're having a really tough time of it. Don't beat yourself up - you need to be kind to yourself - if that means the odd slip, it's both understandable and also forgivable. If it helps you to talk/vent/cry here, that's what we're here for. Not just to talk about weigh-ins. It's the emotional support as well as the practical that's really important.

Flowers and big hugs.
