Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

I think I'm also suffering from the week 3/4 thing dillite, and I have binged unfortunately Sad
I'm going to start posting my meals on here for support.
Hope everyone else is staying strong.
It was daft really because I love this WOE and have felt so much better and had much more energy even though I've been working really long hours, so I'm going to keep on with it. I've been feeling better than I've felt in years tbh and just going to treat it as a blip.

Patapouf · 29/05/2015 21:50

Today was a bit meh, ocado order has only just arrived. Lunch was cobbled together from an avocado, spring onion, cheestring, a few peanuts and a pepperami. I won't be restocking the fridge with the processed stuff again!

Dinner was supposed to be courgetti carbonara but the hob keeps tripping the electricity after I cleaned it this afternoon. Oven is mid clean so I can't cook in there either. I'm bloody starving as well Angry

dillite · 29/05/2015 22:36

Terrible, isn't it, TheCow? I would binge too, but there's nothing to binge on in the house, that's the only thing that's stopping me, tbh. Although I've cheated already, so it's for the best that I can't cheat again.

gcal love the photos

Took the day off sick, feel bad as working my notice but genuinely could not have made it in, literally lay on the sofa all day and feels like I drank my own weight in water with an extra cup of tea on top with a comforting sq of dark choc, now feeling somewhat better, hope I am on the mend now, nothing worse than being sick at the weekend - have a good one all

Hi all, big Grin thanks for the love for my wee piece of Scotland, I do feel blessed to live here some days but sometimes you just want a decent f'ing supermarket/deli and to walk home after a night out rather than spending £70 on a taxi - I was born in a city, still adjusting to the country mummy thing (Land Rover, hunter wellies et al)
Food today:
b: tea, almond milk, pint water
L: smoked salmon, capers (Tesco want £2.09 for the SAME capers home bargains had in for 39p??? Angry I never stocked up) cucumber, tomato, 1/2 avocado, drizzled in very nice olive oil from lidl.
S: Tesco bacon ribs
D: 2 Debbie and Andrews pork sausages, giant portobello mushroom with half a mini blue Brie melted on it and loads of olive oil. Small square dark choc.

lisbapalea · 30/05/2015 00:23

Just back in from dinner at a friend's which turned out to be pretty low carb friendly, although the fact I am feeling a bit pissed means I definitely drank more wine than I prob should have done!

We're out again tomorrow night - we're definitely not usually this busy, socially, but have already got breakfast (eggs and avocado) and lunch (chicken and cheese salad) planned, so just off to google the menu for tomorrow night's restaurant so I can stay in control!

I am still feeling positive about this woe and tonight made me realise that lots of meals naturally fall into this way of eating, or can be tweaked to fit in without causing a fuss or offending anyone.

Romeyroo · 30/05/2015 07:29

Lex, I hope that you are feeling better today. You are not doing anyone any favours by going into work sick - so don't even feel guilty about it!

I think anytime I have had cravings it is because I am wanting a different texture to my food, rather than sugar - in which cases, I have made flaxseed bread or pancakes, or coconut flour pancakes. I very occasionally do other low carb baking (not much recently through lack of time), so for example, I have made quiche with flaxseed pastry which the DC actually really love. If you stick with the WOE, anything sugary will become sickly sweet anyway, so you do naturally lose the taste for it.

dita, thanks for asking. Things are marginally improving on the IBS front, but I'm still struggling with it. I am in the middle of a very busy period at work (think workload bottleneck, ill colleagues and deadlines) as well as exH and ex-in-laws (outlaws?) being over to see DS (not staying with me, thank goodness, but daily contact as DS does not sleepover). So, I have moved into IBS management mode, rather than trying to resolve, because it will be partly stress, which I cannot avoid at the moment.

hope everyone has a lovely weekend, it is gorgeously sunny here Smile

Romeyroo · 30/05/2015 07:30

pata, I hope your cooking facilities are working again - that sounds a nightmare!

TheCowThatLaughs · 30/05/2015 08:11

I've woken up wanting to go back to lchf. I've had a taste of the dark side, but now looking forward to scrambled eggs and butter and double cream for breakfast, with a cup of vanilla chai and coconut oil!
Hope you're feeling better today too dillite Flowers

PeppermintFrog · 30/05/2015 11:37

Sorry to see some of you are unwell and others are stumbling. I am feeling so much better in myself from this WOE that when my sweet tooth bites I just try to remember what I felt like before and why I'm doing this. I've cleared out my cupboards and let the kids run down the treat stores and so far I'm managing to control my dried fruit and nut habit - a bit of inventive swearing always helps me there.

I'm looking forward to BC lite next week, some of the ideas and recipes look great and a few berries will liven the place up. Hubby is back and is already on board, says he feels better already so that's great. KOKO everyone xx

justonemorethread · 30/05/2015 12:01

Not been a great week here, having to fly to Italy in a rush due to mum's health. However I have found I function better on this woe, and planning meals is getting easier.

A nutritionist I met socially the other day told me that even if you are very strict and good for 3 days, then on the 4th you stumble and Darby meal, your body ends up assimilating all the fats you consumed in previous days, instead of eliminating them....
Of this is true it makes me much more motivated not to cheat... !

readyforno2 · 30/05/2015 14:37

I have a horrible sickness bug. Feel terrible. Usually I would have some dry toast, or with jam.
What can I have?

Romeyroo · 30/05/2015 14:58

Peppermint, I remember clearing out my cupboards as well - so much more space!

justone, I hope your mum is okay. I find it easier on this WOE as well. The thought of fat AND carbs going on is a good incentive not to cheat, yes.

Romeyroo · 30/05/2015 14:59

ready, I hope you feel better soon. Not sure about food but have you any peppermint or lemon and ginger tea?

readyforno2 · 30/05/2015 15:33

I have loads of herbal teas but none of them. Thanks

StuntNun · 30/05/2015 15:43

I just tried Twinings Buttermint tea, it is lush. It tastes like Werther's Original sweets but is only 0.6g carbs per cup. I like their Camomile Maple one too but this is even nicer.

LexLoofah · 30/05/2015 15:47

romey thanks, better today than earlier in the week but still planning a quiet weekend as pesky cough is still here and giving me a headache

ready sorry to hear you are sick, I think that is the most challenging aspect of this WOE as normally turn to carby or non meat, non eggs foods - could you manage to drink some hot stock? There's a recipe on the thread for almond scones you can have with butter and a smashed strawberry in place of jam or use for cheese on toast if you fancy, quick and easy to make, I'll see if I can go and find it. I always find if all else fails a cup of tea and sq of dark choc helps

LexLoofah · 30/05/2015 16:53

ready if you feel up to it :-
almond scones

Omit the honey, I used coconut oil and used that for rolling out instead of the almond flour. I did this version to have with butter and a smashed berry and a savoury version with cheese, mustard, paprika and herbs to have with soup, they freeze really well. I think I used olive oil for those ones. Got me thinking about them now so pulled a Stash out of the freezer to have with soup for lunch

readyforno2 · 30/05/2015 17:15

Thanks lex. They look brilliant and only 3g carbs!? The thought of cooking is kinda turning my stomach but the dc need fed so I'm going to have to anyway.

BIWI · 30/05/2015 18:16

Sorry to hear you're not well ready.

ditavonteesed · 30/05/2015 18:17

those scones look gorgeous, will have to try them next week.
ready I hope you feel better soon Flowers
I have had a bad day today although no cheating, I am really really tired after an early morning dash to the walk in centre with dd followed by a day of running about everywhere. I was really grumpy with dh when he did the shopping as although he got me loads of meal stuff he didnt get me any treats. I have just been to the shops to get some bits in and I realised that it is becasue normally if I dont feel 100% I pamper myself with food ad I couldnt think of a single comfort food that I wanted. Got strawberries and cream for pudding so that should do it.

This is the first time I have ever really had so many revelations about my relationship with food before and I think long term it has to be a good thing, you can't change it until you now what it is.

KOKO everyone. Weight loss is not looking so good for me this week, I was down 2lbs ffrom monday but am now at least 1lb up from that.

sassandfaff · 30/05/2015 18:23

ready cheese scones might cut it, in terms of Blandish food.

5 ingredients.
Almond flour
Egg
Cheddar
Paprika
Baking powder.

I make it from sight now, but the original recipe is on the recipe thread, not too far in- 1st few pages. She forgets to mention the egg, but mentions it in a later post.

Get well soon.

Fingers are crossed that this sickness bug misses my house. I'm dreaded it with 4 kids. We had the norio virus once and it was hell on earth. I had to put duvet covers and blankets all over the living room carpet to save it from all the puke.

Gcalgske · 30/05/2015 20:05

Hello all,

I'm still feeling rank but been using a sinus rinse which seems to be helping. Anyhoo
B: tea with milk
L: at a rellies. Was dreading it but they put on a good spread including baby gem lettuce leaves as 'cups' for those not wanting rolls/bread. So I slathered two in butter and had one chicken, avocado and cucumber 'wrap' and once chicken, Serrano ham, avocado 'wrap' plus a bit of local Brie and 4 local strawberries.
D: on the way home stopped at the chip shop and picked up a large haddock no batter, two pickled onions and poured some melted butter on it. Yum.

Patapouf · 30/05/2015 20:08

Get well soon ready!

I managed to get one hob ring to work so I could cook dinner. Had courgetti carbonara which wasn't as nice as I'd hoped, sauce tasted weird.

Had no lunch today because I couldn't cook last night and there is nowhere LC friendly to buy near work. I fell off the wagon, a colleauge was leaving and had left goodies strewn about. I'm so so cross with myself. The worst of it is, I didn't really enjoy it, they tasted plasticy and chemically. Goes to show what happens when I'm hungry and unprepared. I've drawn a lne under it and moved on, I managed over three weeks of BC without succumbing so I know I can do this

I've got another big exam next week so I think I'm instinctually trying to comfort eat so I'm going to make sure I've got lots of hearty dinners to look forward to this week.
