Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

CrabbyTheCrabster · 25/05/2015 05:51

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

Managed to source and try some CoYo today, and it made me feel very queasy! Perhaps the texture? Much prefer natural FF yoghurt.

Also put on 1lb this week, but as a daily weigher I'm thinking this is natural fluctuation.

Energy levels are better than yesterday, but still not optimum sadly!

Romeyroo · 28/05/2015 20:13

Elle, I would take 1lb as natural fluctuation, yes.

After the discussion about Waitrose having CoYo on offer, I stopped by there on the way back to my car after work (deliberately parking about 10 mins away to at least get some exercise) and couldn't find it at all! Where in the store is it? I did get posh fish fingers and chips for DC dinner though, which was a bit of an extravagance!

I am busy reading about low carb high fibre foods - which I think might help me - I have got flaxseed, spinach, broccoli, chard (what is that? need to find out) and coconut and coconut flour on the list so far - all of which I appear to already have in the house bar the chard. So with some eggs and coconut milk (will get tomorrow), I think I can make a few simple dishes to see if that helps re-boot my body, so to speak, as I have been fine with these ingredients before. All this is terribly unscientific.

The sparkling water is going; I am onto plain water and peppermint tea.

Just as well I have no-one coming over for dinner Hmm

Patapouf · 28/05/2015 20:22

Thanks for the article BIWI!

And thank you Crabby for suggesting celeriac tortilla, sounds divine!

Bit of a weird day today, I woke up late and had a four hour exam this afternoon so breakfast and lunch were tricky.

B: coyo and flax
L: pepperami, 20g macadamia nuts. I'm supposedly still in BC but the fridge was bare and they were the only portable foodstuffs.
D: fried eggs, black farmer chipolata and maybe some avocado/moss salad if I'm still hungry.

I've a pounding headache but that's probably because I've only had 1.5L so far. I didn't want to drink too much in case I needed to leave the exam! Trying to make up for it now though.

Romey my local waitrose has F all in terms of things I actually want like Coyo, so I had to resort to an expensive ocado order Sad I've used the last of it now as well, I might beg them to start stocking it as i almost like the texture and total yog was making me gag.

Tetley650 · 28/05/2015 20:26

Romey My local Waitrose doesn't stock them but in Farnham they had plenty and in 3 flavours all at a discount! Trouble is I'd use what I save driving and parking to get them. Grrr.
Just had a lovely supper used a PangYang paste with chicken breast which I almost sort of confit'd to make up for the fact that it wasn't fatty. Added left over courgette from spiraliser, spinach and tenderstem broccoli and some coconut creamate with stir fry caulirice. Ds had normal rice with his but declared the curry lovely. Happy jiggle!!

Tetley650 · 28/05/2015 20:27

Creamate = cream ate!!!!

Ellesbelles04 · 28/05/2015 20:36

Yep- so I'm slightly spoilt as I work on the King's Road in London, home of the wealthy and health conscious! So have waitrose with all the 3 CoYo flavours (although choc has higher carb content) an M&S that sells protein pots and many other LCHF goodies, LEON (good for low carb egg pots etc) and a multitude of cafes and restaurants that wouldn't bat an eyelid if you told them about your dietary needs!

I think the supermarkets in London are definitely responding to Paleo trends which is of course in some ways also good for LCHF. At least those who need it have ocado!

Romeyroo · 28/05/2015 20:47

It is funny, because the massive Tesco extra in probably not the best area of town stocks them. The Waitrose is smaller and in trendy land/studentsville to be fair, it is the land of endless bars and delis, not really Paleo territory yet.

We are getting a big new Waitrose built near us, but that is a long time to wait for CoYo. Never mind, just thought I would pick some up whilst I was passing.

I used to live (many moons ago) in Redcliffe Gardens off the Kings Road, but it was a shared flat and not posh-ville (and VERY noisy with the road). But I have fond memories of definitely not BC brunches in one of the cafe's on the corner with my flatmates. That was before I realised what such things did to my waistline.

BIWI · 28/05/2015 20:53

I'm easing myself back into Bootcamp after my long weekend away, and have had a good few days since our return, although very much Bootcamp Light.

Had my second gym visit today, to a new gym, which is based on heart-rate training. So apparently I burned 365 calories in my session today - and am already stiffening up, which is all good!

There was a really interesting piece in the Guardian today, in the G2 section, talking about using veg in place of carbs. One was obviously through the spiraliser, with things like courgetti - but another one that I really will have to try, is using slices of celeriac in place of lasagne sheets. I have no idea how that works - presumably you cook the celeriac first, but will have to experiment with that one!

plumstone · 28/05/2015 20:57

Elle's, where on the Kings road is Leon?? I walk from Beaufort street to Sloane Sq every day via waitrise for pork scratchings!! Never noticed Leon!!

LexLoofah · 28/05/2015 21:12

BIWI Marks Daily Apple has a recipe for lasagna with celeriac, made it once, worked well.

Feeling a bit better after a sleep and two episodes of Home Fires in bed with a cup of tea. Had dairy though as could not be bothered with anything else but Greek yogurt, Cream, berries and walnuts for lunch. Sorry if I was miserable earlier, sympathies to everyone else who is feeling the same

Dinner will be J Olivers Mince And onion but using shallot instead and hm beef stock which is hopefully jelly tastic enough to not need the cornflour, will do with celeriac and leek mash, lashings of butter and broccoli

BIWI · 28/05/2015 21:13

Oh interesting, Lex! Did you cook the celeriac first?

Ellesbelles04 · 28/05/2015 21:20

Hi plumstone the Leon I go to just opened at Victoria station, but right at the Chelsea end so only 5 mins from my office on Sloane Square, obviously not quite so close from your end of the King's Road!

Saw the guardian article, like the idea of celeriac lasagne, although love a good aubergine/courgette ratatouille anyway :)

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 21:41

meh food day Hmm
B: tea with milk
L: 1 slice cheese with butter and 1 roast beef.
S: Small bar (25g) 85% choc.
D: Big bit cucumber, 1 slice cheese, 1 slice roast beef. Spread with butter.
Head still banging, think sinuses are infected.

Lots of water and tea. Just really busy and not hungry.

weegierama · 28/05/2015 21:44

b. greek yogurt, 2 coffees with cream
l. frittata thing with bacon, greens, spring onion
d. roast veg ratatouille with haloumi

snack. spoonful peanut butter
getting my 3 ltrs water most days

having read that article am thinking I will ditch the peanut butter snack which has crept in the last few days. have tried so many times to 'like' black coffee and just cant. I reckon I have about 5 mils of cream per cup.

Preminstreltension · 28/05/2015 22:00

Nice day here. Had a day off work and took the DCs to see Peter Pan at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park. Lovely. It's aimed at older children (they've given it a ww1 setting) so I worried it would be too much for DS who's five but we all loved it. Magical.

B: Coyo
L: celeriac remoulade with ham
D: steak and asparagus both dripping with butter

Not enough water today as I didn't want to be running to the loo during the show.

Also saw a personal trainer today. Gordon Bennett. That was really hard. And I am really unfit. Still very happy to be doing it and am also on the "if you are in your 50s/60s, what would you advise your 40 year old self to do" thread and am making lots of mid -year resolutions, fitness being one of them.

LollipopViolet · 28/05/2015 22:02

Can I join you in week 3 ladies? I've ballooned and daren't step on the scales because I'm so ashamed :(

I'm off on the adventure of a lifetime in 3 weeks so not sure how often I'll have access to a set of scales but I need to do something about my weight.

CrabbyTheCrabster · 28/05/2015 22:13

Tetley you can't be far from me then... you want to get yourself over to the Godalming Waitrose... much bigger and nicer than the Farnham one. ;-)

I am on a mission to up the fat and water.

B- BPC
L - BPC, 1 chicken wing, 1 drum stick, salad with cucumber, onion and 2 tiny toms - plenty of mayo.
D- Bacon and avocado salad with caesar dressing (7.8g/100g opps)
S - Ham and cheese spread with cheese slices

I did 30 day shred - yay.

LexLoofah · 28/05/2015 22:37

celeriac lasagna

BIWI yes just to soften, I didn't bother with the Roasting your own tomatoes or pureeing the scraps bit and I think I just did cream beaten with an egg and shredded cheese for the cheese sauce, just used the recipe for inspiration really

Preminstreltension · 28/05/2015 22:50

Can anyone point me to the celeriac and mackerel dauphinoise recipe? I am being a div and I can't find it on the recipe thread. Thanks. Smile

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 23:04

From the girl that lives in rural Aberdeenshire I'd like to say Envy and 'meh' to all of those who have a Waitrose / Ocado. Sainsbury is 1 hours drive away and doesn't deliver.

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 23:11

preminstral
This is the one I use (but obv replace potato with celeriac and almond milk for the milk)

www.mumsnet.com/food/recipe/843-Smoked-mackerel-dauphinoise

Gcalgske · 28/05/2015 23:48

sass I'd imagine your a hot dial yourself! Wink
My 2.5yo loves a low carb meal, yet to meet a veg she doesnt like and eggs and olives by the truck load. I do give her carbs though, with daddy, but lunch is normally just us girls and very BC friendly (although she also has fruit)
I'm hoping she gets his genes and doesn't have any of my weight/insulin problems. The women in his family all eat whatever they want and stay slim. Hmm cows

Romeyroo · 29/05/2015 05:11

gcalske, but you have countryside and probably a lack of noise which is good for the soul. I have to drive, admittedly not hugely far, to get out of town. It was one thing I didn't like about London, the feeling of being boxed in by all the buildings. I live on the edge of my city for that reason but it is still not countryside.

Romeyroo · 29/05/2015 05:12

That was in response to you being Envy about Waitrose
