Week 2 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - our first official weigh-in!

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the the Weight Tracker (I hope that link works but apologies if it doesn't!)

So we come to our first weigh-in. I know from last week's thread that results are going to be a bit mixed - but I hope that most of you will see a good loss.

If you haven't, don't panic! Sometimes it can take a bit of time for your body to trust you, especially if you're a bit of a serial dieter.

If you think you've been doing everything according to the rules, but still haven't seen a loss, then list out for me your meals over the last 3 or 4 days and let me see if I can spot anything obvious.

But whatever the results are today, please remember it's not a competition!

We all lose weight at different rates. And someone who sees a big loss in one week isn't going to see that every week.

And remember - it's not all about what the scales tell you. You'll find that your body shape can change even if the scales remain unchanged!

Good luck to you all.

warning way tmi for this time in the morning if you read on its your own fault.

Oh My God I am so constippated, I am in pain and all day yesterday I wanted to go but couldn't. Deamt about pooing all night last night and still cant go this morning.

I am having some strong black coffee this morning and if that does nothing I will have to get laxatives on the way back from uni later. Any recomendations?

Why is it? I have eaten so many veggies so I dont understand and it hasnt been a problem for the last 2 weeks.

SayraT · 20/05/2015 07:43

Sorry Dita thats rubbish. I can't help with the laxatives.

Have you been having plenty of fat and water? That helps keep things moving, some people also use ground flax daily to help keep them regular.

klep you need to eat more then Smile

For those that are looking for alternative drinks then I made a spiced almond drink before which I had at winter. I can't remember the exact quantities but I warmed almond milk on the hob with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and sometimes (BCLite) added a teaspoon of cocoa powder or a square of dark choc.

ditavonteesed · 20/05/2015 07:47

I looked in holland and Barratt for flax seed yesteradya but couldnt find it. Been eating tons of fat and yesterday I upped my water and had 3.5l just in case that helped, I also tried a bullet proof coffe thinking that mihgt help.

SayraT · 20/05/2015 07:49

I got my flax from Asda (its Linwoods cereals) in the "free from" aisle.

ditavonteesed · 20/05/2015 07:50

ah thanks, whats it taste like, can I add it to my morning ff greek yoghurt? I can do that.

SayraT · 20/05/2015 07:55

Its got a kind of nutty taste, you will also be able to get flax seed (whole) but it needs to be ground so that it can be digested.

Yes you can sprinkle it on yogurt but do be aware that flax can stall some people, if you are constipated now and it is because you have a blockage quite far down then maybe laxatives would be a good idea to clear it then just make sure it doesn't happen again.

Flax is also known as linseed, maybe they had it in H&B under a different name, did you ask for it or just have a look?

sassandfaff · 20/05/2015 07:55

Morning.

dita I looked everywhere for flax seeds and couldn't find them, until sayra pointed out they are called linseeds too. Blush maybe you are the same?
Ducolax are the best laxatives.

sayra congratulations on your job offer. Perhaps we could all collectively crack a whip to get you finished in time. Grin

SayraT · 20/05/2015 07:56

Oh meant to say, I've added you to the spreadsheet ready

dillite · 20/05/2015 08:05

Just be careful with Dulcolax, as the results can be somewhat.... explosive. Best taken before bed/ evening.

ditavonteesed · 20/05/2015 08:15

Linseed, that'll be why I couldnt find it then. I do think I am going to have to go down the laxarives route this time. Will get some duloclax and some glycerin on the way home from uni.

Oh and Congratulations Sayra (sorry so focussed on my own issues I forgot to say that) Blush

Romeyroo · 20/05/2015 08:25

H&b have natural herbal teas which get things moving (look for Ideal Health range); I would try that maybe before going for chemical preparation (the teas are Senna, Frangula Bark, also fennel is good). h&B also have flaxseed and their penny sale is on now.

I found cutting down on eggs, more leafy green veg, enough fat, and massaging colon helped too! If you massage your abdomen, you will feel where things are stuck (at least I couldBlush) and massage the area.

Romeyroo · 20/05/2015 08:28

Sorry, not going against the Dulcolax suggestion if it works for you; I did find it replaced one kind of pain with another

Oh, and I read last night that if you put your feet up on a foot stool and lean forward, it will help with the other kind of stools.

(I can always be relied on to add to a poo discussion, sorry)

sassandfaff · 20/05/2015 08:32

romey Grin
Dulcolax is brilliant if you are really bad. If you are only somewhat constipated it can give you bad stomach ache. I agree only take at night time.

I've never found senocot to work. But that could obviously just be me.

Tetley650 · 20/05/2015 08:37

Lex and _Sayra have just been on sheets yes I can make changes - I'm on a IPhone 6+. Had got so far and had the app but couldn't see the spreadsheet. Now I can! Well done Lex for sorting

cathyandclaire · 20/05/2015 08:39

Congrats Sayra fab news.
Dita Dulcolax will sort you out :)
I didn't do too badly yesterday considering, avoided the popadoms, nan, birthday cake etc glosses over the prosecco had chicken tikka and the most delicious cauliflower curry, not sweet at all and no thick sauce so it didn't seem carby. Cauli is a wonder-veg, does anyone have a good cauli curry recipe?
Not sure what I'm eating today, props eggs for breakfast, chicken caesar salad for lunch (no croutons) and something involving celeriac and cream this evening.
My puffy eyes have definitely gone down and my skin looks better, I really think low carb is a good anti-ageing device ( superficially anyway :) ).

shebedee · 20/05/2015 08:53

Checking in and it feels great to be home again after 2 days of business meetings and hotel stays. I did eat as well as I could but you never know about dressings and mayo when you don't buy it or make it yourself. Still can't be too bad as I am 5lbs down today from day 1.
I'm really enjoying my coffee with cream, coconut oil, butter and a sprinkle of my new found vanilla powder- brill.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 20/05/2015 09:12

Yy to dulcolax being 'explosive' and painful. I'd go with it as an absolute last resort if i were you. The best thing i find is movicol, i usually have to take it daily because of meds but usually can go without on this woe. When i do get bunged up again, i just take it for a day or two and it sorts itself out again :)

lisbapalea · 20/05/2015 09:20

Morning all!

I was also very constipated when I started LC-ing so I used flaxseed in yogurt and it seemed to help. I think after a while your body just adjusts itself and now I seem to be back on track; possibly not going as frequently as I used to, but enough to feel comfortable.

Anyway, moving on from poo...

Having the most delicious breakfast at the mo - a soft boiled egg, half an avocado, some brie, some serrano ham, all drizzled with olive oil, coriander and tabasco - bit of an odd combo but it's so satisfying!

Lunch will be some kind of low carb selection depending on what's lurking when I check the fridge and tonight I am going to try to recreate a chinese thing of fried pork mince with shitake mushrooms, spring onions, ginger, garlic and chilli, served in lettuce leaves. Hope it works!

Gcalgske · 20/05/2015 09:28

Lisabpalea sounds delish. I do something similar with beef and pork mince from a Gordon Ramsey recipie and it's amazing.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 20/05/2015 09:29

If anyone does want movicol, i now have a backlog of stock (oh the irony Grin )

Patapouf · 20/05/2015 09:37

Oh sass senokot definitely works Blush I think you'd be better off with a glycerine suppository than any chemical/herbal tablets because the results vary so so much!
I paid 5.99 for flaxseed in h&b, not all stores stock it though. Found some in Aldi for 1.99!

sassandfaff · 20/05/2015 09:43

Oh dear. I decided to weigh out my yogurt this morning. 100grams is very small to how much I've been dishing up! Oops.

sassandfaff · 20/05/2015 09:49

patapouf I have diverticulitis, so that may effect it. I don't get constipated very often now, but after years and years of constipation because of IBS, I can't stand it. So I use the stuff I know will work! I've only once had belly ache with it. I took 2 before bed and then ended up going myself before morning, so I was in agony. Sad I've only needed it once since January bootcamp started I think.

plumstone · 20/05/2015 09:54
