Week 2 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - our first official weigh-in!

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the the Weight Tracker (I hope that link works but apologies if it doesn't!)

So we come to our first weigh-in. I know from last week's thread that results are going to be a bit mixed - but I hope that most of you will see a good loss.

If you haven't, don't panic! Sometimes it can take a bit of time for your body to trust you, especially if you're a bit of a serial dieter.

If you think you've been doing everything according to the rules, but still haven't seen a loss, then list out for me your meals over the last 3 or 4 days and let me see if I can spot anything obvious.

But whatever the results are today, please remember it's not a competition!

We all lose weight at different rates. And someone who sees a big loss in one week isn't going to see that every week.

And remember - it's not all about what the scales tell you. You'll find that your body shape can change even if the scales remain unchanged!

Good luck to you all.

Morning all, feeling good to day and happy for the bank holiday - hubby has a few days off and nephews coming to visit - yay.

Usually BHs revolve around food and wine but this year we are getting out and about with kiddies and have an active weekend planned. I will be taking a picnic when we go out and about - will be buying some lovely LC num nums so i am not tempted by carby rubbish when out. Any suggestions? Thinking chicken wings, cheese cubes, salad, pepperamis.

Tonight is fish and chip night here for the students, so i will lerk upstairs and then air out the dining room!!

Off out visiting in a bit so i have had 2 BPCs to keep me on an even keel and meaning i can skip lunch at well meaning but fat avoiding grans house.

Have a great day everyone

blessedenough · 22/05/2015 10:25

Pata - when i first LC-ed i had a period that lasted about 3 weeks. I think its something to do with hormones being released due to fat loss - its a good thing but a pita!

Patapouf · 22/05/2015 10:32

Blimey, glad it's not just me then. Im off on holiday in a fortnight so I would quite like it if it could finish by then, so I'm debating whether to stop taking it altogether. It gives me terrible mood swings and bad skin and I told the GP I didn't want it but I wasn't allowed my preferred alternative because my BMI is too high Blush

I was reading something about toxins stored I'm fat, which are released when you lose weight, do these make you ill? Or do they just er, pass through?

Kleptronic · 22/05/2015 10:44

Pata I've just got my TOTM four days early and it's lasted 5 days so far, not 3.

Nothing compared to yours of course, but for me unheard of. I definitely reckon LC fat release does increase the oestrogen.

It's a bit worrying because I'm TTC and waiting for IVF next month. But I've lost 3lbs so hey, swings and roundabouts Smile

PatsyNoPasta · 22/05/2015 11:03

Excellent. Thanks Gcalgske

Patapouf · 22/05/2015 11:06

I'm just in a huff because I've had a lovely 28 day cycle since i was a teen! With TOTM lasting 3-5 days max and no pill, apart from cerazette, has changed that. I don't like the feeling of not being in control most of all.

Good luck for next month!

justonemorethread · 22/05/2015 11:21

More or less going ok here, thought I was 1kg down then today it came back again, but I know i should not be weighing myself daily!

It might help if one of you comes to confiscate the dark chocolate in the cupboard, I have been going once or twice a day to take a square as my sweet tooth wants to sabotage this diet….

Maybe will use it to bake something for the children, then it's gone.

And, sorry, can't work out what KOKO means? Been trying to work it out but I'm obviously thick!!

Dumdedumdedum · 22/05/2015 11:38

Keep On Keeping On? (I guess!)

Patapouf · 22/05/2015 11:46

That's what I guessed too, what else can it be??

ewanhoozami · 22/05/2015 12:37

Keep Orf Karbs, Okay? Grin

it's not that, btw.

ewanhoozami · 22/05/2015 12:39

LC does monkey around with menstrual cycles IME. Mine are always a couple of days shorter, lighter and less painful when I eat this way.

ewanhoozami · 22/05/2015 12:44

Finding new things to eat is a brilliant aspect of Bootcamp, every BC introduces something new to me. Some of my absolute favourites have been kale chips, roasting broccoli, cream cheese pancakes and celeriac remoulade.

and greek yogurt mixed with almond butter but I shouldn't really mention that until next week or I'll get thwacked

ewanhoozami · 22/05/2015 12:49

today:

B - three eggs fried in ghee
L - Naice ham and avocado with leftover homemade tarragon mayo
D - smoked salmon and dill fritatta with asparagus salad

coffee, bovril, scratchings, more coffee (probably)

lisbapalea · 22/05/2015 12:51

My period last month was definitely heavier and I had heard that about LC, but this month it has been noticeably lighter and shorter, so I am hoping that's a positive readjustment.

I went out with friends last night for thai and it did involve some carby twattery I am afraid. I ordered the weeping tiger steak as my main, which was good, and I didn't have any rice, but I did have some of the carby shared starters and a good few glasses of wine. Sorry.

Today I am polishing my halo though:

B - two fried eggs, half an avocado with tabasco and olive oil, and a slice of serrano ham
L - leftovers of my fried pork mince thing from Tuesday night, with iceberg lettuce and a 'condiment' of pork scratchings for crunch
D - will be low carb fridge picnic; cheese, pate, celery, olives etc

LOTS of water.

I am staying at my Mum's tomorrow with the girls as dh is away, and am thinking of volunteering to do dinner so I can be in control of it. I think I might suggest a bbq and have it with various green salads, as well as some 'cous-cous' using cauli rice, feta and roasted veg - do you reckon that will fool them?! Then I can do meringues with whipped cream and berries, but just not have a meringue myself...

dillite · 22/05/2015 12:51

Cream cheese pancakes? Recipe please!

Today's food

B- 3 eggs (2 whites, one whole) with bacon 4 rashers, cucumber
L- smoked mackerel, poached eggs, spinach, radishes, cucumber, mayo
D- moussaka with broccoli

Water- 2l down whilst waiting for HMRC to answer, 3 mugs of tea, more to go

Sorelip · 22/05/2015 13:09

dillite cream cheese pancakes are just 4 eggs and 4oz cream cheese blended together and fried like normal pancakes. Dear lord they are lovely!

My period is fecking horrible - I nearly got dh to come home from work early yesterday because I was in so much pain.

Gcalgske · 22/05/2015 13:41

Low carb has been a godsend for me regards menstruating. I've PCOS and without low carb I'd never have conceived (From my teens through to my 20's I just used to bleed constantly) admittedly to begin with my periods do get heavier but they've always got lighter in the past as the low carb works it's magic in my insulin production and reduces my cysts. I'm 2.5y post traumatic birth and had gained a LOT of weight (virtually sedentary) so PCOS had reasserted itself but now I'm back on low carb (head screwed on right!) my cycle is getting better again.

LexLoofah · 22/05/2015 14:58

sayra yes I did put test - sorry, is it buggering up the formulas? I can take it out now if you like or just type over on Monday when I have weighed in

fatstacks yes 18 hours down a pit, just how I feel, it is not even 9am yet and I feel like I could sleep for 100 years --- listening to conversations - do you work for GCHQ? Smile

romey and BIWI thanks - I read a bit about magnesium last night, certainly sounds like it fits with my symptoms including insomnia and a wee bit of numbness and tingling from time to time as well as the all consuming fatigue. Even when I get 8+ hours sleep I am still tired.

Will do more reading on supplements today and then see what Dr says, will be a week until I get blood work results but I don't think they will necessarily show up things like iron or magnesium deficiencies so may as well get some and start taking them - just want to be sure I get the right dosage and ones that are bio-available or in the best form of delivery so I don't waste my money -- to quote from a website I was on yesterday 'some supplements do nothing but give you expensive urine'.

Dumdedumdedum · 22/05/2015 15:14

Lex, this thread moves so fast, I can't remember your symptoms, but from what you've just said, they sound like mine. Wondering if I should go for the magnesium. I have some somewhere, the brand is the one recommended in the IDP - Solgar. Don't know if that gives you expensive urine Grin

readyforno2 · 22/05/2015 15:36

Dum, please give it the 10 weeks. I lost 6st 12lb last year from the 6th January to November. There were a few weeks where I sts or put on but this woe definitely works.

LexLoofah · 22/05/2015 15:52

dum thanks, yours might (hopefully) be short term carb flu, mine is long term pervasive fatigue - I had chronic fatigue syndrome/ME as a teenager (although it was called yuppie flu then - does anyone say yuppie anymore?), hope it is not that again.

I had been putting it down to being a busy Mummy but now I am paying more attention to my body and how it feels and expecting an energy bump from being fat adapted I think there is more to it than that. I have seen magnesium recommended on here though as one to add anyway for lots of reasons as well as a few of the varieties helping with constipation

digger sorry forgot to say thanks earlier about your info on iron, glad it was so transformative for you, will any old iron tablets do?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/05/2015 16:14

B: lump of cheese
L: 2 hardboiled eggs mashed with cheddar and aioli (which is disgusting, shan't buy that again!) in iceberg lettuce leaves
D: duck and vegetables.

No alcohol = plus point
Minus point = small slice of birthday cake (DH's). FFS.

I have actually lost weight though, despite my inability to stick strictly to this camp.

diggerdigsdogs · 22/05/2015 16:22

Don't think I can eat eggs every again. Broke one today and it was full of blood.

romey Thanks for the salt tip. I probably haven't added enough. I never added salt to food (other than soup and mash) so I keep having to remind myself to add it.

lex I've been taking ferrograd+c (due to pregnancy and low iron everything) and I think you can get it in boots in the UK. but once I've finished this packet I'll move over to floradix (and they do a diary and sugar free version) as it's gentler on the tummy. Spatone is another liquid option. Some people find iron tabs bung them up or give them the shits but I found thing calmed down once my levels came back up. Also re vit d - DH and I both had very low levels and take a vit d supplement. Even though we are in Aus and walk the dog daily, play with kids outside, spend time on our farm at weekends we are still vit d difficient.

B: creamy eggs, spinach, mushroom
L: blue cheese and bacon salad.
D: slow cooked lamb, greens, creamed leeks.

diggerdigsdogs · 22/05/2015 16:26

lex sorry re expensive wee and iron a dietitian recommended Spatone over floradix but said ferrograd-c was best of the lot just not ideal side effects.

dillite · 22/05/2015 16:41

Thank you sorelip. I will make them tomorrow for breakfast.

Well, my friend came to visit today. She had baked chocolate and salted caramel brownies gor me. I had 3. The worst thing is, I felt as guilty for eating them as they were tasty. Hey, at least they contained butter, right?
