Week 2 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - our first official weigh-in!

BIWI · 18/05/2015 07:12

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the the Weight Tracker (I hope that link works but apologies if it doesn't!)

So we come to our first weigh-in. I know from last week's thread that results are going to be a bit mixed - but I hope that most of you will see a good loss.

If you haven't, don't panic! Sometimes it can take a bit of time for your body to trust you, especially if you're a bit of a serial dieter.

If you think you've been doing everything according to the rules, but still haven't seen a loss, then list out for me your meals over the last 3 or 4 days and let me see if I can spot anything obvious.

But whatever the results are today, please remember it's not a competition!

We all lose weight at different rates. And someone who sees a big loss in one week isn't going to see that every week.

And remember - it's not all about what the scales tell you. You'll find that your body shape can change even if the scales remain unchanged!

Good luck to you all.

Anyone else here use 'my model' app for visualising weight loss? If I looked that good at this weight, I wouldn't need to lose 28lbs!!
All good fun though, love a weigh loss app. Anyone got any good ones?

Romeyroo · 21/05/2015 19:55

blessed, the weight loss does slow down though, because first BC will be water too. What is important is the downward trend, which you are seeing.

First ever chai today - absolutely lovely, why have I not tried that before? What I really like about this thread is that it prompts me to try new things.

Although whether my local Tesco will get them is another matter....

plumstone · 21/05/2015 20:41

Waves at Prem!!!

Preminstreltension · 21/05/2015 20:57

agree about the trying new things. As a result of LCing and this thread I've been introduced to the deliciousness of endive, celeriac, Delouis mayo and coconut yogurt. I am a lifelong cauliflower hater but that's on my list to try next. I might try that ready-made stuff gcal linked to as it might help me get over my dislike and then if it works I can move on to the brain-like real thing.

LexLoofah · 21/05/2015 21:10

it's 3pm and I could lay my head down on my desk and sleep, am so tired. Not hungry, craving something but I don't know what, just sleep probably but that's not an option for another 6 hours so chai with cream it is, plus caving and having a sq of dark choc I know it is not allowed until BC lite but I have some in my drawer to 'break in case of an emergency' and today is the day

Off to Drs next week for annual medical, maybe it will shed light on my crushing tiredness and also show some improvement in cholesterol profile as got a bit of a lecture last year

Tetley650 · 21/05/2015 21:18

Is there such a thing as too much fat? Dinner - lardons aubergine and a little tomato was swimming in oil, so much so even the aubergine couldn't soak it up. I spooned it in and now feel I might be sick but not from being full.
Rummaged in a cupboard and lo and behold I do have a spiraliser - the stainless steel one and it makes loooong strands! Spoilt by my lunchtime courgetti thought I'd try aubergini - back to the drawing board!

Romeyroo · 21/05/2015 21:36

Tired people, what about vitamin and mineral supplements - especially magnesium and B vitamins, if I forget mine I am more tired. Bloods will show up iron deficiency but mine were fine - it is lack of sleep but vitamins etc do help

Speaking of which, matchsticks are propping my eyes open so night all zzzzzzzzz

Patapouf · 21/05/2015 22:35

No worries lex I have a laptop, just thought I'd see if I could get it up on the iPad as I use it more.

B: coyo- it's delicious!!
L: leftover frittata and black farmer chipolatas.
D: weird salad of mozzarella, avocado, chipolata and shallot. With loads of olive oil.

BIWI · 21/05/2015 22:50

If you're tired all the time, and you are really, really, really following Bootcamp rules - i. e. eating fat and drinking water - then try a high strength Vitamin D supplement

Grin BIWI I can get pretty lively, given the right circumstances!

Peppermint welcome! Of course you can join us. Read the rules at the bottom of the spreadsheet and jump right in. Smile

PatsyNoPasta · 21/05/2015 23:33

Sorry if I have missed this - can anyone give me the recipe for the Bulletproof Coffee and Chai Tea? TIA

Gcalgske · 22/05/2015 00:10

Hi Patsy

There are many variations. Mine is 15g unsalted butter, 15g coconut oil. Pour over half a cup hot chai or coffee. Blend until emulsified and frothy. Top up with more hot drink ( stops my blender jug over flowing)
I add 15g cream some days too, because that's how I roll Wink

LexLoofah · 22/05/2015 00:42

Thnx re vitamins and minerals, need to see what I can get here that is worth shelling out for. Yes apart from choc today am following rules.

Friend who is only a few years older than me is the same and just been diagnosed with early menopause so need to ask doc about that too Hmm

LexLoofah · 22/05/2015 00:47

romey what form of magnesium are you taking? Just had a quick look, who knew so many existed? Looks like magnesium Malate is best for fatigue.

diggerdigsdogs · 22/05/2015 01:14

Lex I'm always saying this on MN but I was chronically tired when my ferritin (blood stores) was low but iron wasn't. An iron tablet quite literally changed my life and turned me from a shit mum zombie to the happy, glowing energiser bunny you see before you

Well, not quite.

I think I have carb flu. I keep waking up with a crashing headache like I'm hungover. Very tired again. Need more water I think. Having 2 litres but I think it's not enough.

Romeyroo · 22/05/2015 06:13

Lex, I have magnesium with zinc - it has magnesium oxide and magnesium with zinc.

Biwi is right about vitamin D as well- I didn't put it as I thought you were in a sunny climate (I am not) - but I take that too

In fact, I would probably rattle if I jump - I have a multivitamin which is for women, biotin as my hair was falling out as a side effect of medication, vitamin B6 and l-lysine to prevent cold sores which I get when I am run down. I do have iron but it is in the multivitamin too and adding more gives me the bungs. But for tiredness, b6, vitamin D and magnesium. And sleep Smile

diggers, I had a phase of the hungover feeling - I drank stock in the mornings for the salt - I used the Kalo organic ones. One of my students recommended a type of Hungarian salt as it has a lot of electrolytes (in another context not BC) but I have not tried this yet (I need to rein in my spending on weird and wonderful stuff). At the moment, I just take a few grains of rock salt now and then as the headaches can be due to lack of it (either that or check for carbon monoxide - and yes, focus on the water!)

I LOVE this vanilla chai - having a cup just now. Have been up working to get the peace and quiet; and the tea is just lovely. It will join my list of little treats which are good for the soul.

Dumdedumdedum · 22/05/2015 06:42

Hello, everyone! Congratulations to everyone for doing so well at LCBC!
Please bear with me, I've logged in to vent. I am in a filthy mood as weight is not moving at all (well possibly moving up), though I am low-carbing high- fatting properly and have managed to get up to 5 a day's worth of veggies. Drinking at least 3.5 litres of water a day and despite quite a lot of provocation this week, have not turned to alcohol or chocolate or sticky toffee pudding. Pah, pah and thrice pah!
I think if I still haven't lost anything by the next weigh-in, I will do Uber Camp. I will then continue till I have done 4 weeks and if I don't think it's working for me, I'll return to the horribly boring diet (low carb, low fat, but I was allowed wholemeal toast and Marmite for breakfast, and the odd potato, too - but tonnes of courgettes Sad) a nutritionist put me on a few years ago and which I know works for me as I lost 7k in the first month I was on it - unfortunately didn't stick to it as had to go to England to look after my mother for a month and copious amounts of wine were the only way I could cope with her (she had undiagnosed dementia at the time).
Apologies for the rant.
Have a great day, y'all!Flowers

SayraT · 22/05/2015 08:17

Dum why don't you tell us exactly what you have been eating and we can see if there is anything we can suggest. What vegetables are you having, is it possible that you are eating some that are too carby like carrot or beetroot?

Why not stick it out for the whole 10 weeks then you can really say that you gave it a good shot?

Ask yourself these questions:

Are you enjoying what you are eating?
Do you feel deprived?
Are you experiencing other benefits from LCing?

If the answers are yes, no, yes then why not just KOKO for a bit.

When did you start BC and have you lost any weight at all? Also how much do you have to lose? Some people take a while to adjust especially if they have been doing other diets before starting BC. Trash (I always use her as an example!!) put weight on for the first 6 weeks or so of BC then suddenly "whoosh" and she started losing. Not everyone will lose masses of weight in the first week especially if you don't have much to lose.

SayraT · 22/05/2015 08:21

lex did you write "test" on the spreadsheet?

plumstone · 22/05/2015 08:54

Morning all - today can only get better - bought BPC from Crush two sips, two feting sips and then my feet did a weird thing and I tripped and the whole lot landed on the ground narrowly missing two glossy, swishy haired blondes, who tried and failed to look sympathetic yet smug at me!!!

Today can only get better and food consumption will be:

B - two sips of BPC, plus one black coffee and 1ltr water
L - salmon salad - mayo, and hard boiled eggs - 1ltr water
D - pork belly strips, courgettes red onion and mushrooms fried in butter 1 ltr water

Have great day everyone!!! xoxo

Fatstacks · 22/05/2015 09:51

Lex I take a cacophony of supplements and multivitamins.

I wish I could find a tonic or something just to give me a shove!

I'm lucky enough to work from home, my job is basically listening to conversations or reading them, nothing strenuous but there are days when I feel like I've done 18 hours down the pit.

When dc was small I resorted to buying Modafinil Blush just to keep up.

Dumdedumdedum · 22/05/2015 10:14

Hi, SaryaT, thanks for replying! I have 6 stone to lose, so not a matter of being too close to my ideal weight, clearly! I lost 6lbs when I first did a fortnight of LCBC in April, then I went back to not bothering (well, I kept low carb but added desserts and alcohol) and when I started BC again, I had gained 2lbs from the end of my first BC. I've lost nothing since.

I have only been eating green vegetables (no peas), cauliflower and celeriac. Mostly cucumber, lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, and green beans. Always with hm vinaigrette, mayo or butter and olive oil.

Here is what I had yesterday:

B: Hm smoked mackerel pate, oopsie bread, cucumber and a large dollop of hm mayo.
L: Pepper steak a la IPD, faux cauliflower mash, green beans fried in butter and olive oil.
D: Same as breakfast.

A lot of black coffee (never take dairy in coffee or tea), at least 3 litres of water.

Today:
B: Salmon and broccoli crustless quiche, more pate and a dollop of hm mayo.
L: Either tarragon chicken a la IPD or salmon fried in butter with a touch of cream - green beans in butter and olive oil. Possibly cauliflower mash if I feel like it.
D: What I didn't have for lunch.

Same drinks as above.

I am enjoying what I'm eating, I'm not feeling deprived, I am constantly knackered and have no energy, with the odd headache thrown in. (And am permanently constipated.)

I think that's answered all your questions, albeit not in the same order!

Fatstacks · 22/05/2015 10:20

Dum I'm a serial dieter and it took a while for me to lose, and get my head straight!

I tried to concentrate on being able to enjoy the food and let the loss be a happy side effect to start with.
I sabotage myself by concentrating too much on how far I have to go.

I did scuba uber camp after a few weeks settle in time and it does happen, honest Smile

Patapouf · 22/05/2015 10:21

I think I have eaten something that disagreed with me because I've been in stomach agony since yesterday. I'm hoping its a bug because the only new things I had were coyo and black farmer sausages, both of which were delicious. I had to go to bed early with buscopan, a hot water bottle and a handful of antacids that probably contained sugar. Sigh
I've also managed to put a lb on, although I did lose 2 at the beginning of the week. I'm going to blame that on TOTM, although I don't know what's going on with that. TMI: on a new pill and first TOTM started when BC started, lasted much longer than ever before in my life and just when I think it might finally be over, it's started anew Angry I don't understand how I managed to lose the first few weeks despite it but now I've gained.
Unless it's completely unrelated and down to bloating with stomach pain.

Can LCing affect artificial TOTM in the same way it can mess with natural hormone cycles?
