5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp

BIWI · 21/07/2014 07:35

Morning all!

Just starting the day with a black coffee instead of my usual white one. Not quite sure if I like it or not ...

Anyway, welcome, everyone to this shorter-and-stricter-than-usual Bootcamp Grin

For those of you who are new to low carbing, I strongly suggest that you don't do Ubercamp. It's very strict and restrictive and will be a very, very hard introduction to low carbing. Far better that you get to grips with what it's all about before you also aim to cut out dairy.

For those of you that have low carbed before, you have the option this time around. You can either Bootcamp, which will last for three weeks this time, followed by two weeks of Bootcamp Light, or you can Ubercamp for the first week.

Ubercamp means no dairy (apart from butter). So the rules are the same as for Bootcamp, with this one exception.

Bootcamp Rules

On our Spreadsheet of Fabulousness you will find the rules of Bootcamp - along with a whole load of other really important information. Have a good look around it, by clicking on the tabs at the bottom.

Sayra will be updating the spreadsheet this morning, so she will get all your names on it, and when she does, you can then enter your starting weight. As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all

MNHQ are - hopefully! - also setting up another Weight Tracker for us.

As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all there, in which case use the Weight Tracker, as that is private.

So this is the plan this time around:

Week 1 - Ubercamp (for those who are up for the extra challenge
Weeks 2-3 - Bootcamp
Weeks 4-5 - Bootcamp Light

I should warn you that I have taken my big stick out of the cupboard and I am ready and willing to use it ...

That last should have read more bone than meat Stunt! Duh!

LingDiLong · 26/07/2014 15:38

Well done for just stopping at 6 strawberries, I really would have demolished the whole punnet once I'd started! I found some black farmer sausages at my local shop earlier so now I'm stupidly excited about having a bbq tea with them!

BIWI · 26/07/2014 15:58

Fancy being worried about 6 strawberries Grin

Seriously, Stunt, you did well. It wasn't the biscuit tin or a chocolate bar, which it would be so easy to do.

Thanks BIWI, it does show how your attitude to food changes over time on his WOe when some ripe Scottish strawberries in the fridge are way more tempting than my kids' cupboard full of biscuits and jelly. My new favourite quote is "Nobody believes your excuses except yourself." My excuse was I had a bad day so I ate, in this case literally, the forbidden fruit! I've come so far in overcoming my poor relationship with food but I still have a little way to go yet.

BIWI · 26/07/2014 16:18

I'd say you've come a bloody long way, StuntNun.

Let's face it, we all like to treat ourselves with something from time to time. I'd say that you have made a major breakthrough by seeing something both pleasurable and good for you as a treat.

And yes, strawberries have carbs in them, but part of this WOE is finding a way that's going to work for us in the long term. It seems to me that you are pretty much there.

OMG, eating out again tonight. And had lunch out too. This is really unusual, but loving that I can do it and still loose!

readyforno2 · 26/07/2014 17:01

Confession time...
I was at a 30th party last night and drank about 7-8 g&t. The food wasn't that lc friendly either. Had a couple of chicken satay things and a couple of chicken nuggets Confused
Haven't swayed off track today though which I would have done with a hangover before. Didn't even have a can of irn bru!

B - loads of mushrooms and a shallot fried in garlic butter
L - salad box from sainsburys with mixed leaves, cucumber and chicken mayo
D - supposed to be going to a BBQ so shouldn't be too bad but its just started pissing down

Lighthousekeeping · 26/07/2014 18:05

I'm just eating a peanut jelly sandwich. Haven't had chance for a break yet. I really struggle when I'm at work,

BIWI · 26/07/2014 18:29

Lighthousekeeping - you must start to plan for work - goodness knows how many carbs will be in that Sad

Cheating - part 2

Sometimes going off piste is unavoidable. As per the examples above - going to a party/event/barbecue where food is provided for you and you have no other options.

But a lot of times it is totally swervable. It's a choice that we all make. Yes, it's a pain to have to plan ahead, but at the end of the day, surely it's a choice worth making?

And - and this is the really important thing from the POV of this thread - ^please bear in mind that talking about cheating and - specifically - naming what you've been eating - can be a massive trigger for some of us.

We are all here to help you plan strategies to cope with cheating and its after effects, but please be sensitive to those who have issues around this.

(Lighthousekeeping, your post reminded me to post this - please don't think I'm having a go at you/your post!)

Yeah I totally fell off the wagon after Christmas, even though I had been really careful in the run up to Christmas and on Christmas Day. I was reading about what everyone else was eating, basically clearing out all their Christmas goodies, and I used that as an excuse to do the same, cue a 5lb weight gain that took me a whole Bootcamp to shift. So as BIWI says, if you're posting about cheats then don't be specific unless you're saying something bad about the cheat, such as I ate a burger in a bun and it gave me the trots.

CecyHall · 26/07/2014 19:27

Sorry!

Had a much better day today-

B- coffee and cream
L- halloumi salad with avocado
T- the pork belly and leeks that I was supposed to eat the other day but didn't.

Going to have some Comte later as a Saturday night treat, can't wait.

LingDiLong · 26/07/2014 19:50

Just did a short run and felt awful again for the first half but then something just clicked and I was back to normal for the second half - pace back up and feeling really good! I hope that means my body is starting to adjust a bit to the low carbs.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 26/07/2014 20:14

She's Still really struggling and have kept myself busy all day. :( I'm giving in and having low carb pizza for dinner, I don't know what's up, I never ever have cravings like this, they always pass quickly.

Will admit to using a keto stick thinking something unexpected has bumped me out but yet again was practically black, I've been drinking pretty much my weight in water.

Just a thought (probably a daft one) but maybe we could start a separate 'Forgive me for I have sinned' thread where you post about your cheats and get offered a bit of help and motivation - but it's easy for people to avoid if it makes them feel tempted. I personally don't mind people posting about their cheats as it makes me feel smug Grin and I do think it can help if you've cheated to have a bit of an arse kicking or a hand holding or whatever.

trinitybleu · 26/07/2014 20:53

So, today ...

Brunch - ham, mushroom and egg omlette with salad and mayo.
D - beef burger, chicken breast, bacon, cheese, mushrooms, salad, sour cream and blue cheese dressing. Had a bit of carrot and beetroot in the salad.

Now having a vodka and diet coke as our visitors are piling through beers and amaretto ... hope that's ok?

StuntNun · 26/07/2014 20:56

I think it's better to keep it on this thread Ling, but just to be wary about tempting other people off the straight and narrow. We all have our moments where we succumb and eat the wrong thing and it's part of the learning curve.

LingDiLong · 26/07/2014 21:01

Fair enough! I just re-read my post and realised I probably sound like a twat with my smug comment sorry. I was clumsily trying to say that it kind of has the opposite effect on me - when I see that people have succumbed and it's made them feel crap it reminds me that that's exactly how I will feel if I give in to temptation.

perrysands · 27/07/2014 08:25

Well this week I seamed to fall back into the trap of lean cuts of meat and very little fat until BIWI waved her spoon at me and put we back on the right roadSmile

B-2 fried eggs lamb cutlet
L- chicken leg buttered cauliflower
D-lamb chop ,buttered caul and butter mushrooms

Loss 1lb

Firsttimer7259 · 27/07/2014 08:33

General question - what do you do when feeling snacky? I'm finding it difficult to deal w emotional eating. Of course best thing would be to stop, but if I can't manage that what are lc snack options?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 27/07/2014 08:59

First I eat pepperoni for snacks. Aldi frankfurters and bratwurst are very low carb too, could cook and cut up to snack on?

Didn't do so well yesterday.

B- tuna mayo, red cabbage coleslaw, 2 teeny cheese portions.

D- Ground almond pizza. :(. Wanted to avoid this but I was so so close to buying regular pizza and cake and I know that would make me feel awful, I don't even like actual bread anymore so I don't know why I am craving such carby crap.

Snacks - quarter of a vanilla Atkins shake.

I know I done rubbish, will do better today.

StuntNun · 27/07/2014 09:20

Firsttimer olives, Pepperami, ham slices or other cured meats, macademia nuts, almonds, pork scratchings (Awfully Posh brand is best), hardboiled egg, kale crisps (these are amazing), small piece of 85% chocolate, leftover chicken drumsticks or wings.

It's worth cooking extra chicken or boiled eggs so you always have something you can grab.

If you're including dairy: individual cheese portions or slices, spoon of cream or clotted cream, full fat yogurt, celery dipped in Philadelphia.

Pisseslikeahorse · 27/07/2014 09:24

Firsttimer try drinking your water, down a large glass when you get picky, refill and drink slowly. I keep a glass on the go all day.

If you really want to snack then try olives, pork scratchings or a low carb veg like cucumber or celery, but remember your daily carb limits and that we are aiming for 3 meals a day on bootcamp. Smile
If like me the weight came from my bad eating habits then think about changing them and sticking to your meals. I've found it hard but really want to reset myself so that when all the weight has gone I can happily maintain.

I'm fed up with eggs now and want some yogurt back in my diet. But have to say doing ubercamp and calculating my eating I can see where the loss was last bootcamp and that I've got to keep the dairy in check.

b. 3eggs & 100g aubergine
l. tuna salad
d. roast chicken salad

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 27/07/2014 09:25

I thought nuts weren't allowed on boot camp? I have a home made peanut butter cup in the fridge, I spent all day yesterday avoiding the thing...
