5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp

Morning all!

Just starting the day with a black coffee instead of my usual white one. Not quite sure if I like it or not ...

Anyway, welcome, everyone to this shorter-and-stricter-than-usual Bootcamp Grin

For those of you who are new to low carbing, I strongly suggest that you don't do Ubercamp. It's very strict and restrictive and will be a very, very hard introduction to low carbing. Far better that you get to grips with what it's all about before you also aim to cut out dairy.

For those of you that have low carbed before, you have the option this time around. You can either Bootcamp, which will last for three weeks this time, followed by two weeks of Bootcamp Light, or you can Ubercamp for the first week.

Ubercamp means no dairy (apart from butter). So the rules are the same as for Bootcamp, with this one exception.

Bootcamp Rules

On our Spreadsheet of Fabulousness you will find the rules of Bootcamp - along with a whole load of other really important information. Have a good look around it, by clicking on the tabs at the bottom.

Sayra will be updating the spreadsheet this morning, so she will get all your names on it, and when she does, you can then enter your starting weight. As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all

MNHQ are - hopefully! - also setting up another Weight Tracker for us.

As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all there, in which case use the Weight Tracker, as that is private.

So this is the plan this time around:

Week 1 - Ubercamp (for those who are up for the extra challenge
Weeks 2-3 - Bootcamp
Weeks 4-5 - Bootcamp Light

I should warn you that I have taken my big stick out of the cupboard and I am ready and willing to use it ...

I had broad beans earlier in the week (got given them) and have still lost 6lbs in 4 days ...

Earlybird · 25/07/2014 14:16

What is the advantage to exercising in a 'fasted state'?

And to be clear, are you saying that exercising first thing in the morning before breakfast is a good thing?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 25/07/2014 15:01

If I eat before I exercise it makes me feel sick, that's the only reason I don't.

Raging. In Asda cafe with kids, only thing that could be made okay is the burger. They refused to give me it without a bun and salad instead of onion rings. But gave DP salad instead of chips.
I'm sitting outside feeling crap for myself as I am starving.

BIWI · 25/07/2014 15:11

Why exercising in a fasted state can be beneficial

OP posts:
Pisseslikeahorse · 25/07/2014 15:58

Hello all

Holidays + children + early morning runs + kids friends + days out = bloody knackered, not eating well and too much coffee.

On the exercise fasted front I did 8k this morning on a glass of water and logged a good run. If I'm training later in the day I give myself at least 2hrs to digest any food and never eat anything to solid (yogurts great). I use coffee as an Aid to training, not sure what it does but it works. Smile

Food: B. 3 egg 150g courgette fried in butter / mayo
L. 3 chicken thighs and skin
S. pig snacks
D. eggs and smoked salmon on iceberg lots of water 10pints

LingDiLong · 25/07/2014 16:12

Jut a quick question, I'm off out for a meal tonight to a carvery thankfully, but wondered whether I can have gravy?

BIWI · 25/07/2014 17:39

Strictly speaking, no - as usually it's thickened with flour. However, usually I would say that as long as you're not drowning your food in gallons of the stuff, and as long as you're not filling your plate with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and Yorkshire puddings that you can let yourself a have a small amount, as the amount of flour in that should be negligible

I'm with you Stunt on the benefits of looking back when it all gets a bit rough. I go and pick up the sack of cat litter (that I normally have to move by dragging it!) and think about how I've lost two of them! ShockI put one of my nice little t-shirts on top of one of my old size 24/26 ones and marvel at how tiny it looks. Smile Like you, with the exercise, its really slow. Because I have FMS I have had to go super slow to avoid muscle damage but I have just outgrown my 3rd set of dumbells and am now using a pair of 4kg ones. All small things on their own but its been a journey well worth doing.

And Yes,Trash I can voucher for the fact that its far better to have what fat I have left spread over some decent, toned muscles because it improves your shape no end. Stick with it Gal! Grin

miffy49 · 25/07/2014 17:51

Ling In the carveries its often a gravy mix. I have a commercial gravy mix bucket that I scrounged to keep bird seed in and I just checked the label. It lists 100ml of the made-up gravy as 5gr carb so if you stick with a splash and don't go swimming in it I reckon you wont do too much damage. Now in my case I could forgo the gravy but I'd need handcuffing to the chair when the puds came out!! Grin

StuntNun · 25/07/2014 17:57

Holy sh1t Miffy I never thought of that. I have lost the equivalent of one bag of dog food! That's just crazy.

Earlybird it's not necessarily that it's better to exercise in a fasted state, so much that this way of eating gives you consistent energy levels that you can access whenever you need to and for as long as you need to. A keto-adapted runner can run a marathon on just water whereas a lot of runners would need to refuel on carbs as they run.

LingDiLong · 25/07/2014 18:12

Thanks BIWI, I've checked the spreadsheet to see what veg I can have! Delighted I can have a bit of gravy. I'm hoping the desserts are crap!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 25/07/2014 19:53

Miffy I have EDS and FMS too! Trying to wean myself off pregabalin to see if the 3 stone that came with it vanishes, it's the reasom I habe started exercising too.

So, today was:
BPC
tin of tuna, lettuce and some mayo

D- We had a picnic dinner as we were all tired and rushed, so lettuce, tuna crunch sandwhich filler, chicken and jalapeño sandwhich filler, home made red cabbage coleslaw, most of a chicken thigh and 2 single serve cheese portions.

Have really tried to cut down on the dairy but must admit I had a spray of canned cream when I was in a I need ice cream moment.

I have however, not added cream to anything this week.

CantEvenKeepAnOrchidAlive · 25/07/2014 20:17

Five days over, I've done well..maybe had a small ice lolly after an hour playing sport this afternoon as I needed ice cold water and didn't have any, but at least I refused the ice cream.

Came home to find DP had bought Mediterranean bread, grr that was difficult to stay away from but I did.

B Scrambled eggs, 1 slice of bacon, espresso
L Tuna Mayo, salad, homemade coleslaw
D Sausages, celeriac chips, brocolli
W Nettle tea, 3 litres of water, 2 espresso's

Haven't weighed myself since Weds when I was 6lb down, will now wait until Monday.

trashcanjunkie · 25/07/2014 21:40

Thanks guys! Did me some exercising today. Dp helped, and still loves me despite the faces I made. Still got one more set of leggy ones to do. Grooooo Grin

I don't take any prescription meds other than painkillers Schro and they are mainly for arthritis rather than the FMS. I have heard very varied reports about pregabalin. Just remember when you exercise to take a day or so to recover before the next session and go very slowly. One of the things that is coming to light is that people with FMS have an abnormality of the blood capillaries in the muscles. This means that the exchange of nutrients/waste is impeded. If you exercise again before all the waste is cleared and the muscle is re-energised you will get muscle strains and cramps. I tend to stick with weights rather than the giddy stuff but its helped a lot. The LCHF diet has made a massive difference to the brain fog and to my energy levels.

trinitybleu · 25/07/2014 22:26

Today I've had ...

Brunch - cheese, chicken, salad, mayo
S - Parma ham
D - Pizza Express ... antipasto, pollo pancetta salad with extra goats cheese

Smile
trinitybleu · 25/07/2014 22:28

Oh, there were some kind of fresh green olives on the antipasto ... I don't usually like them but had a wee taste and they were nice. Would they be allowed?

CecyHall · 26/07/2014 07:00

I completely fucked up last night-had too much lunch, could not face roast pork where it was so hot so instead of being sensible, I had orange juice for dinner. And wine.

Back to it today, I'm really craving a nectarine, this weather just makes me want fruit and juice!

LingDiLong · 26/07/2014 07:56

Thi

LingDiLong · 26/07/2014 07:59

Argh stupid phone! This is so tough isn't it?! Carvery was harder than I anticipated, no veg or gravy just a choice of potatoes, pasta salads and rice salad. Thankfully there was plain salad too. Managed to stick at it despite bread rolls being offered and a table full of cake for dessert. Looking forward to introducing a bit more variety next week. Are there some menu ideas for bootcamp somewhere?

BIWI · 26/07/2014 08:07

What kind of carvery is that?! Seriously, though, it really makes you realise how 'normal' all that carbohydrate has become, that a restaurant would provide pasta and rice rather than vegetables.

We do indeed have a recipe thread Some lovely recipes here!

OP posts:
BIWI · 26/07/2014 08:08

Cecy - when you say you had 'too much lunch' what do you mean? Don't forget we're not calorie counting on this WOE.

And orange juice is possibly the worst thing that you could have chosen!!! It's far worse than the wine.

Honestly - don't do it to yourself.

OP posts:
CecyHall · 26/07/2014 08:14

Too much lunch as in I felt really sick- I'm not worried about calories but that was a pretty stupid thing to do however you look at it!

LingDiLong · 26/07/2014 08:21

Yes it was a carb fest really. Thanks for the link, the recipes look lovely, especially the asparagus frittata!
