Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the hard work is over!

Morning all!

Well done everyone for getting through the first two weeks. Still a bit of carb flu around by the sound of it though. Remember it's really important to keep your electrolyte levels up, with all the water that we're drinking. This means plenty of salt!

I know we're all told to keep the salt down, but it's (yet another) thing when you're low carbing that runs counter to expectations. Cook with it, and put it on your food.

Here's a really good post about salt and why we need it

As well as sodium, we also need magnesium and potassium - salmon, spinach, avocado and (full fat) natural yoghurt are all good.

Bootcamp Light

So now, if you want to, you can move on to Bootcamp Light. The rules for this are on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

(Oh, and don't forget [[www.mumsnet.com/bootcamp the Weight Tracker as well)

Essentially the differences are that you can, if you want, start to skip breakfast if you're not hungry - I know that lots of people have problems with eating first thing. By now you should have stabilised your blood sugar levels, so if you're not hungry in the morning (or at any other time of the day) you don't have to force yourself to eat. Just make sure you don't end up ravenous later on and without anything appropriately low carb to eat!

You can introduce some fruit - berries or rhubarb only (although bear in mind that rhubarb will need to be sweetened, which will mean using an artificial sweetener; stevia is probably the best one to use - brands are PureVia or Truvia.) But be careful not to go mad - it's an occasional thing, and in moderation!

Similarly with nuts and seeds. These can be introduced now as snacks, but go easy. They can quickly add lots of carbs to your diet. Almonds and macadamias are the lowest in carbs. And if in doubt, check the carb count on the back of the packet

And you can also introduce alcohol, but with the same warnings about moderation! Spirits like vodka and gin are the best, as these are low carb - drink them with sparkling water or - if you have to - slimline tonic. Champagne, dry white and red wine are allowed, but these do have carbs, so go easy.

The week 3 (or 4, or 5) stall

PLEASE NOTE! IT IS VERY, VERY COMMON FOR WEIGHT LOSS TO STOP ALTOGETHER AT THIS POINT.

This is to do with your body switching from carb-burning to fat-burning - StuntNun posted a really good post about this last week, I think, and I'll ask her to re-post. It is entirely normal and doesn't signal that you're doing anything wrong.

However - you may feel, knowing this, that you want to stay on Bootcamp for a bit longer. There is no problem doing that, as long as you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad. You may want to consider doing Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

So good luck everyone! Here's to another good week Flowers

Oops posted on old thread!
Just half pound this week, so 2lb in total on the two weeks, was a bit disheartened, so I measured
Down 2 inch waist, down 2 inch hips and 1 inch off each thigh, yay meGrin
So 2lb and 6 inches in two weeks, happy with that.
Well done to all the losers, keep keeping on everybody a whoosh could be just around the corner.

Hi all.
Well my weight has stayed the same as have all my measurement except another cm off my stomach and arms.
So that's about 8 cm off my stomach in two weeks Grin

I'm sticking with bootcamp until I get through the next couple of weeks. Then I will re-assess.

Hope I everyone is ok?

Please don't anyone be disheartened by only losing a pound. It's still a lot of weight, you only have to pick up a pot of jam to see that. I have some 3 lb weights and they show me that's still a great amount to get off your joints. Slow and steady wins the race, it will keep coming.

Hey, some great loses and some fab stories shared here at the start of Week 3 - if you STS, don't despair... I've been herensince January and IT WORKS.

This is effectively week 2 for me, I started a week late andI was fully expecting to STS after two horrible carby days at a conference, so delighted to report a 1lb loss AND today I am wearing my size 8 target summer trousers!

Very pleased, but I echo some of the comments up thread about health benefits of this WOE being even more important to me after 5 months than the actual weight loss... I suffer from fibromyalgia and depression and... I've been off my meds for three months now, do not have crushing fatigue every morning when the alarm clock goes and pain-free(ish) days are more likely than not.

Do I want to eat any other way? Nope!

Signing in so I don't lose you but I'm still to regain my mojo - I have no idea why I'm finding it so hard this time. :(

Hi All - well done to those who've lost... Smile keep going to those who haven't - this thread is amazing support.
1lb off for me, which is OK - but was still hoping for a bit more - total of 2lbs lost now. Am going to carry on with BC as the only thing I miss is toast - which isn't allowed on BCL anyway...
Snowie that's so interesting what you said about this WOE helping with depression; for about 3 years I've been having random bouts of depression and anxiety, and always have a good few panicky days before TOTM. THIS month though (I started 2 days ago) nothing! First time in absolutely ages! Here's hoping this continues!
Oh - and my skin's looking better than it has for ages too Grin

biwi or anyone else clever, is there a difference between yogurt and double cream? I hate yogurt but have been indulging in bowls of freshly whipped double cream as it's amazing Blush

Is that an acceptable breakfast Blush

STS this week but I'm sure that was due to the booze and curry I stupidly had on Saturday. I was a couple of pounds lighter prior to going out so I'm sure I can get back on it.

Doing another 2 weeks on BC as I'm not really a berry/nut person and I want to stay off the booze for a bit longer.

Can I please ask all of the people that make that mayo, what oil do you use? I think I only have vegetable oil in.

Today
B - Peperami & coffee with cream and butter
D - asparagus fried in loads of butter
S - smoked salmon
T - Black Farmer sausages with celeriac mash I think. Not sure how nice it'll be, I've never tried it before!

I've drank 3 litres of water today, my intake should be 3.5 so I'll get to at least that, possibly a bit more.

Thought of this thread when I had lunch with my friend. She made a salad that was absolutely gorgeous so I asked what was in it
Red wine vinegar, olive oil, grainy or Dijon mustard and v v ripe avocado. She said mix vigorously in the salad leaves so the avocado falls apart and goes sort of creamy

Well done to all the losers and commiserations to those who've stayed the same or put on, I've lost another 1lb.

LMD I made your taco bake last night and it was delicious. DH turned his nose up at it when I was making it so I made him spag bol and then he sulked after trying it because the leftovers are for tonight.

Off to look for Jimmycorkhill's mayo recipe.

Goodasitgets I make that dressing but with white wine vinegar, it goes with most things and keeps for 4-5 days in the fridge.

Hi all, well done for sticking at it. I'm chuffed to have dropped half a stone finally. Thought it was due to my dodgy tum, but it's still off after a weekend eating well. I'm not going totally light, but promised myself if I lost I would have 3 whole strawberries. My mouth is watering. Today I've had omelette with pancetta. A black farmer sausage for snack. Chicken leek soup for lunch. Steak in butter with mushrooms and salad. And my strawberries. Will it hurt to have the occasional little bit of berry whilst sticking to BC? (I mean 2 or 3 times a week)

I've gained 1.5lbs. Sad I have been really disciplined and don't know what has caused it. The only dairy I have is 2 cups of decaf coffee a day, very little cheese I read the thread every day and am grateful for all the posts about why weight can/might stall. I am determined to stick at it for another week. Will try drink more water and watch my portion sizes. Well done all you losers Smile

Confused , weighed on Friday and had lost another couple of pounds , today they're back on againHmm Not giving up but feeling a bit cheesed off , going to really up the water

outtolunch in my experience, if you haven't strayed, pounds lost are pounds lost - if they were gone on Friday and back onntoday without any major carby-twattiness in the interim, you may find them gone again if you weight tomorrow. It's your new low, claim it!
