Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the hard work is over!

Morning all!

Well done everyone for getting through the first two weeks. Still a bit of carb flu around by the sound of it though. Remember it's really important to keep your electrolyte levels up, with all the water that we're drinking. This means plenty of salt!

I know we're all told to keep the salt down, but it's (yet another) thing when you're low carbing that runs counter to expectations. Cook with it, and put it on your food.

Here's a really good post about salt and why we need it

As well as sodium, we also need magnesium and potassium - salmon, spinach, avocado and (full fat) natural yoghurt are all good.

Bootcamp Light

So now, if you want to, you can move on to Bootcamp Light. The rules for this are on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

(Oh, and don't forget [[www.mumsnet.com/bootcamp the Weight Tracker as well)

Essentially the differences are that you can, if you want, start to skip breakfast if you're not hungry - I know that lots of people have problems with eating first thing. By now you should have stabilised your blood sugar levels, so if you're not hungry in the morning (or at any other time of the day) you don't have to force yourself to eat. Just make sure you don't end up ravenous later on and without anything appropriately low carb to eat!

You can introduce some fruit - berries or rhubarb only (although bear in mind that rhubarb will need to be sweetened, which will mean using an artificial sweetener; stevia is probably the best one to use - brands are PureVia or Truvia.) But be careful not to go mad - it's an occasional thing, and in moderation!

Similarly with nuts and seeds. These can be introduced now as snacks, but go easy. They can quickly add lots of carbs to your diet. Almonds and macadamias are the lowest in carbs. And if in doubt, check the carb count on the back of the packet

And you can also introduce alcohol, but with the same warnings about moderation! Spirits like vodka and gin are the best, as these are low carb - drink them with sparkling water or - if you have to - slimline tonic. Champagne, dry white and red wine are allowed, but these do have carbs, so go easy.

The week 3 (or 4, or 5) stall

PLEASE NOTE! IT IS VERY, VERY COMMON FOR WEIGHT LOSS TO STOP ALTOGETHER AT THIS POINT.

This is to do with your body switching from carb-burning to fat-burning - StuntNun posted a really good post about this last week, I think, and I'll ask her to re-post. It is entirely normal and doesn't signal that you're doing anything wrong.

However - you may feel, knowing this, that you want to stay on Bootcamp for a bit longer. There is no problem doing that, as long as you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad. You may want to consider doing Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

So good luck everyone! Here's to another good week Flowers

Fucking fed up. 2lb on. I'm 144lb which I've bounced around since Easter.

Think I'm due on which may attribute some of it but today, Monkeyface is FED UP.

Morning everyone! Thanks for the thread BIWI Thanks

I'm 2lb up this week. Ho hum!

I'm currently in the process of trying to work out what works and doesn't work for me and I think I can safely say that last week didn't work!

I'm starting to be pretty sure that I haven't had enough salt all the way through BC. My exercise tolerance has never picked up since having carb flu in January and that must be wrong. Every run feels like I've hit the wall/bonked and of course keto adaptation should have sorted that out.

So this week:

Ãœber camp in the week. Supplement with vegetable bouillon, fish oils and magnesium.

I may do BCL at the weekend but we'll see!

NB: a BPC and a cup of stock makes a good hangover cure Grin

Happy week 3 folks!

I seem to have lost between 3-6 lbs. My scales are giving me a different reading every time. I will go for 3 and be prudent!

This is a net result of 1lb! Although my stomach is a lot flatter...

Monkey how much have you lost over all since January and how does that work out as a per week loss? You are doing really well, really really well! Did you not say the other day that you looked amazing in your size 8 hot pants? Sounds like things are going pretty well for you!

You also said the other day that it is nearly TOTM so maybe that is where your extra 2lbs came from? You know that as you get closer to goal weight that it gets harder, you must be very close to goal now surely or maybe your goal is unrealistic and your body doesn't want to go there? I don't know but please try and see how well you have done and not focus on the bad.

Do you have before and after photos? Look at them and I bet you can see a huge difference.

Mini whoosh this morning despite totm starting with a vengeance yesterday. 2lbs off this morning making a total of 5 off in 12 days ( I started the boot camp late).

sayra I know how frustrating it is when people don't seem to notice! I've lost 20lbs since 21st march but no one has said a thing apart from 2 friends, I'm wondering where the weight has gone from as I've only lost 1 dress size.

I'm staying on boot camp, with lite maybe on the weekend so I can have a vodka now and again.

My loss is fairly slow but I see it as a long term lifestyle change so however long it takes doesn't really matter

Staying on bootcamp... If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Morning.

Weighed in at 187.5 this morning so 5.5 off.

Sticking mostly to boot camp with the odd but snack thrown in.

Tummy is definitely flatter, I no longer bloat after meals and I have so much more energy.

B Greek yogurt, 2 cups tea with cream
L chicken salad with some halommi
T pork fillet stroganoff

Aiming for 4 litres of water, which shouldn't be to hard as it is really warm here again today.

Good luck everyone, have a great week.

Hi everyone, I stayed the same, this was better than expected as it was my birthday this weekend and my husband had organised a family party yesterday. I couldn't miss out on the cake that my Dh and Dd had made I had one slice and it tasted soooo sweet. I knew that it would show on the scales as I didn't drink as much water yesterday either. Back on it this morning!
By next birthday I'm going to be my lightest in years!

Just a pound down this week, but am delighted as have lost a stone in just over a month (doing a mixture of BC and lite). Going on holiday tomorrow so will do an adapted version of lite... and then back with a vengeance next week.
Thanks for the amazing spreadsheet and all the handy, handy hints!!

Hurrah, lost the 3lbs I put on during my holiday (week 1 of bootcamp) so now on week 3 I'm exactly where I was at the start Grin

To those who aren't losing/getting fed up, have you tried cutting out dairy? I have been trying to eat this way for a few months now (though not as strict as bootcamp) and cut out dairy for a few weeks to see what would happen. I started to lose weight again. I was using a lot of cream, Greek yog and haloumi. Another thing I noticed was that once I cut out dairy (not butter) I no longer felt the need to snack.

Am a Tuesday weigher as Monday mornings start very early here and tend to be bonkers. Managed to stay on course despite a very challenging weekend.

thanks Jimmy - I am going to try that this week. But first I'm going to have strawberries & cream shared with DD.

Then I will stop stamping my feet & not have any more dairy & be uber strict. Think AF is due which is not helping ( did actually cry on the scales Blush). Also I started this about 1/2 stone above my normal set weight so in a stupid part of my head the first half stone isn't 'real' weight, and my failure to lose it stings all the more.

Morning!
2 lb loss for me, very happy with that and I've lost 5,2 lb overall.
I'm going to stick to bc in the week and go lite at the weekend.
All my sugar cravings have gone which is weird but lovely. We went on a long bike ride yesterday which usually means cake and carb fest and instead I had a prawn salad drenched in mayo.
Congratulations to the lossers and wishing the whosh to those waiting.
Thanks heaps BiwiSmile

HolgerDanske - I know where I went wrong, not enough water in the last 48 hours and more than sneaky 3 small pastries I had contributed.

So I'm the same.

but I'm feeling really positive. I'm going to look at it that this has been the week I've discovered dairy makes me stall, which paves the way for me to start losing more. Also having and alcohol two days ago, which made me put on 0.4 of a kg, that has now come off again. So reassuring that in the future when I'm at goal, I can the occasional treat and a strict day after will sort me out.

Eggs for breakfast. Think I have salmon and avocado for lunch and a lamb steak for supper.

I have got myself a jug of water and have put a fruit tea bag into it. It's now a fetching shade of red. I'm thinking this will be a really nice way of getting my water allowance, and great for if I'm craving something sweet. Might stuff some mint in there too later.

Hi everyone, I'm really please with 2.5lb down this week and broke the 200lb mark for the first time, hooray! This after I noticed where I'd got a bit slack and changed things.

Keep going those who have flattened out loss or stopped - I stalled from week 2 in my first bootcamp and it got going afterwards.
As for cramps - I supplement with magnesium, and add salt, and when I don't I do get leg pain, which in addition to my usual background chronic pain makes me unable to sleep. I've just accepted that this WOE provides adequate amounts of all things in normal situations but that I seem to be sensitive to the magnesium drop (it's quite hard to be potassium deficient but you can use lo-salt as well for that) and it's a small price - I don't need to take multi vits eating like this as I eat better!

Out for the day with my friend and her little boy today so I am taking my picnic salad and refillable filtered water bottle and looking forward to it! I start work in ?2 weeks, maybe even next week, so I'm getting the enjoyable days in while I now am mobile enough to manage them.
