Morning all!

I see several of you have already weighed in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

As of today, though, we also have our bright, shiny, new Bootcamp section on Mumsnet, including our own Weight Tracker, which will only show your own weight/progress.

You can either use the Spreadsheet as we have done before, which everyone has access to and can see, or you can go here and enter your weight.

Obviously you can do both!

When you're in the new Bootcamp, if you click on the tab that says 'more info' that will take you to a section which has loads of information about low carbing, as well as Bootcamp Rules

Before we get going formally, I have to make an important disclaimer:

I am not a doctor, a medic, a scientist, a nutritionist or a dietician. I have no formal training in food, dieting or low carbing. The information that I provide here is based solely on my reading on the subject, as well as my own experience. If you have any kind of medical condition and/or you are taking any kind of ongoing medication, you should consult your GP before starting a low carb diet

That done, good luck everyone!

LittleMiss Glad things are on the up for you. I think a lot of us have addictive tendencies which is probably a good part of why we have all met here and, hopefully, we will all help each other triumph over it.

SayraT · 18/01/2014 21:17

I have just made kale crisps (recipe on recipe thread-kale, dressed in oil, oven for 10 mins).

They were amazing! You need to try them if you haven't already.

flucketycluck · 18/01/2014 21:25

Thanks Methe- is it thick like the total one? I don't like the runny ones....

rosetintedglasses · 18/01/2014 21:36

Thanks for looking it over BIWI - I'm drinking loads of water but did wonder if I was overdoing the dairy. How can I get more fat in without it being dairy? Avocados? Fattier meat? I think I'm eating enough cos I'm not hugely hungry and normally I eat constantly all day long so I was expecting to be starving!

GrumpyCrossPatch · 18/01/2014 21:40

Piscivorus and SarahBeeney I'm so glad it's not just me! However, I did make the mistake of trying to get mine to support a burger. Sticky, greasy Grumpy now!

mirpuppet · 18/01/2014 21:48

This video on how to make oopsie rolls at the 2 minute mark sums up oopsie rolls for me.

I used a different recipe but didn't rate them. Recipe My oopsies are in plastic bags -- hopefully becoming more bread like for tomorrow.

GrumpyCrossPatch · 18/01/2014 21:58

Ha! Love the sweary oopsie roll woman. She should have her own show.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 18/01/2014 21:58

Grumpy

I've just seen a recipe on the recipe thread for burger, bacon and cheese between two Portobello mushrooms. Yum yum, can't wait to eat that!

Evening! mir - Grin re. that clip. I'm another person who didn't get on with the whole oopsie roll thing. In general I'm not a fan of 'faux' stuff, particularly the bready type products. It just makes me wish I were eating the real thing. For burgers, I like to just top them with delicious things and serve with a favourite salad.

Today was a manic day, out for most of it. Food choices were okay although - ahem - a friend turned up with a bottle of Prosecco earlier and um... it was drunk rather swiftly.

B - bacon and eggs
L - burger with cheddar plus salad
D - roast chicken with roasted swede chips with parmesan and caesar salad/avocado.

First time making the swede chips and they were a big hit. Not so much with the kids but I think they could have to get used to them.

mirpuppet · 18/01/2014 22:09

I'm glad I could provide a Saturday evening laugh for those not indulging in chocolate, alcohol and other carbs.

I'm off the faux foods as well.

LauraBridges · 18/01/2014 22:17

Yes, I would never eat them. I think you cannot go wrong if you only eat real food. If man made it, don't eat it was an old maxim an early fitness man in the US used to say and he's right.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 18/01/2014 23:01

Humph arginine is an amino acid (not an essential amino acid, meaning we can manufacture it ourselves as well as getting it from food). The herpes virus (which causes cold sores) needs arginine to replicate. An essential amino acid called lysine supresses the action of arginine. If you're very prone to outbreaks, it's worth looking at what the ratio of lysine to arginine is in the foods you eat often. Nuts contain both, but are high in arginine, so that might be why they trigger a cold sore. If that's the case and you really like nuts, it may be worth trying a lysine supplement when you eat nuts, to balance the ratio.

I looked up the research (as I haven't looked at this stuff for years) and most of the studies are quite old and there are mixed results...

Hope that's helpful, anyway. Vitamin E applied topically helps them heal. I've got a little article about treating them with complementary medicine somewhere that I wrote for a friend years ago, I could try and find it if you like.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 18/01/2014 23:18

hi, Ive been a bit absent the last few days, Im on track, but I have a concussion. Long story short, I slid, fell, smashed my head.

Ive had some pizza this eve, cookie and diet soda. Sorry, but needs must.

Feeling sorry for myself. Back to normal tomorrow. Letshope my head does the same.

SteeleyeStan · 18/01/2014 23:49

Oh dear, Jax! Shock I hope you're feeling better and on the mend.

Piscivorus · 19/01/2014 00:08

Gosh Jax Hope you are ok, what a shock for you

I am trying hard to escape my Diet Coke habit and, as we are still in bootcamp so no G&T tonight I made cucumber water. Take a cucumber, use a vegetable peeler to peel long strips into a jug with lots of ice, top up with water and leave in fridge to infuse. It was very nice, refreshing and a bit different to just water. Be nicer in warm weather though. I think I'll add mint next time too

BIWI · 19/01/2014 00:47

Oh goodness, Jax - are you alright?

hazchem · 19/01/2014 00:56

mirpuppet the you tube ad at the start of your video is McDonalds hehehe. I think I'll skip them.

hazchem · 19/01/2014 00:58

Oh jax hope you are Ok and have someone with you responding to your every whim

Thumbwitch · 19/01/2014 02:53

Pisci that sounds very nice!

Jax - wow, did you slip on ice? That sounds awful, don't blame you for having a break. Hope you're ok.

StuntNun · 19/01/2014 07:46

DH made a yummy low carb snack yesterday - deep fried chicken wings! He rubbed them with a dry rub of herbs and spices then deep fried them for 12 minutes. The only problem is we have sunflower oil in the deep fat fryer which I guess I need to replace with lard.

moreyear · 19/01/2014 07:50

B bacon, tomatoes and eggs
L some cold roast pork belly
D 'Risotto' made with cauliflower rice, cooked in chicken stock, lots of parmesan and a splash of double cream with mushrooms and some bacon stirred through.

heliumheart · 19/01/2014 08:14

Morning all. Another day of eating largely on the hoof - will try to fill up before setting off, but we're spending the afternoon with my SIL who provides never ending bowls of crisps by way of sustenance when we visit.

Also getting annoyed by the early starts - woke up at 5.45 this morning needing a wee and once I've woken up that is IT for me. Grrr.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 19/01/2014 08:14

Sad Jax hope you feel better soon!

Feeling slightly more human this morning. Hope I'm over the worst now. Yesterday's food:
B - three cups of tea and two painkillers. Hmm
L - avocado with leftover salmon
S - pork scratchings
D - steak with roasted celeriac mash and a cream mushroom sauce
Had a small glass of red. Too much tea, plenty of water.
