Juice, a friend of mine met a NZ guy who was in the forces. She met him abroad and ended up living in NZ with him. It didn't work out for various reasons but she didn't look back. Said they were insular people. Go with your gut feeling. Give him another chance if you really like him but you will have to accept that he is away, a lot.

Think you meant me not Lou about mates turning up. lol. They turned up at his place and had a drink before they hit the town. It was uncomfortable, especially as I knew one of their mums. Still trying to live it down.

Betty 'Athletic' is the younger guy see above.

Been having a nice text chat with FWB, he's abroad, shame could have done with a hug. Xmas Sad

Betty79 · 04/04/2010 20:34

Ahh eve I see, lol at his mates turning up tho!

Juice-well I'm glad he showed up and you talked things through, all u can do is see how it goes from here.

Ninah-i think u shud meet thai farmer too

thesouthsbelle · 04/04/2010 20:43

eve - can see that would be embarrassing.

juicy - run with it chick if you want to - you're not daft, eyes wide open, besides as you said we both like our space. the army is a way of life - even as a wife, can be as annoying as hell and ya have to be celibate for long periods of time but in some ways it's also good - ie the space thing and when they go & come back it's like a new relationship again. (for about a week lol)

sin - majorly lethargic. yup.

pirate/cake lol@ 2 u comparing notes.

not much happening here, did reply to farmer's text. really can't be assed thou - am wondering if there's much point in meeting him - guess it's a face to a name & all, was talking more y'day about his late wife & what had happened etc. so ho hum. really don't think I can be doing with the dating/courting/putting in effort shaving my legs to impress someone. when I know i'm not looking for a relationship long term at the mo.

thesouthsbelle · 04/04/2010 20:44

ninah - agree you should meet thai.

DONTtouchMUMSspecialJUICE · 04/04/2010 21:20

eve - insular is an interesting adjective. nz is insular. and thats why he left there in first place. .. yet... tbh i would say the army way of life is also very insular.

it does suit me he's away alot at the moment when kids are so small.

but he's only planning on being in the forces for another 3 years.

so he has to get used to "normal" life at some point, as he's planning on joining civvy street as he calls it in 3 years.

Remotew · 04/04/2010 21:33

I have met one or two guys in the forces along the way and they all say it's very difficult to have a relationship with someone in civvy street as when they are away their mind is working overtime thinking about what their gf/bf's are doing.

That's why they marry fairly quickly so that their partners are involved in the life, also the married quarters are better.

kdk · 04/04/2010 21:39

juice - sounds like army life is a lot like prison life - not something I"ve got personal experience of ... but mate of mine who used to do prison teaching says a lot of guys find it very hard to do life on the outside because they are just too unused to it - often end up committing crimes just to go back inside - maybe a bit of a warning though?

and, don't get annoyed with me but am currently exchanging very slow instant messages with bluebeard (man with three exes) - only mucking about tho said big problem was his being a smoker - and he says he gave up last year ....

Remotew · 04/04/2010 21:53

kdk! Course he gave up. If you go on a date with him you might wonder why he keeps dissappearing outside. He sound dodgy tbh but as long as you are enjoying the banter then fine.

DONTtouchMUMSspecialJUICE · 04/04/2010 21:57

kdkd - nothing wrong with harmless msning i suppose. brighten up your evening. lol

eve - yeah, one of reasons why we had such lengthy chat this wkd which was serious as he has a lot of "guilt" issues surrounding him being so long distance, and fears of what if something happens to him. dont see there being any rush to marry and live in married quarters. i think the aim is more to sustain the long distance till he leaves the army as it is only a few years.

kdk · 04/04/2010 21:58

my view exactly eve - mind you, let's face it, whatever smokers think, you can always smell if someone's had a fag no matter how many mints/much aftershave/perfume they use ...

anyway, he's trying to make it as a kids' writer - poker obviously not doing so well - so is sending me the first chapters of his book as I mentioned my son loves reading ...

thesouthsbelle · 04/04/2010 21:59

kdk - I wouldn't say so, a lot of military people do have a hard time adjusting to civvy street - mostly as they live by a certain way and expect how can I put it - a degree of loyalty automatically on the outside but we all know it's not nec like that.

agree go for a date and see, don't blame ya on smoking thou.

turn offs for me would be:

  1. smoking
  2. snoring
  3. hairy men (as in really bad)
  4. drugs.

anything to add to the list girls or am I just fussy?

thesouthsbelle · 04/04/2010 22:00

ooh it's that one KDK - in that case do the banter but am I right 3 exs and 6 kids by then?

kdk · 04/04/2010 22:08

that's the one - describes himself as a romantic ...

think your list is pretty good - though mine would have to include
5) seriously overweight
6) unintelligent (don't mean uneducated because that has nothing really to do with intelligence)
7) racist/intolerant
8) no sense of humour/takes self too seriously

the length of my no-nos probably explains why I have been single for the past four years!

have received stories from bluebeard and ended banter for time being!

DONTtouchMUMSspecialJUICE · 04/04/2010 22:18

add to that mine of

9)poor teeth/ unkept hair(lack of interest in taking care for their bodies)
10)excessive drinking
11)disgusting rotting feet
12) bad breath
13)innappropriate dress sense.. i.e dressing too old/too young for themselves.
14)low self esteem
15) overly confident/arrogant
16)no job through quitting (redundancy and looking for another can be overlooked at present but i still do .. any sort of work.. even minimal wage/volunteer looks better on a cv than nothing)
17)loud gawfing laugh
18) eating with mouth open. stomping away and slurping
19)unclean bed sheets when they know you are coming to spend the night
20)text speak

i could think of more.

but pc keeps crashing so should head to bed.

... is it really any wonder i am still single.. i am a little fussy too i think

Remotew · 04/04/2010 23:07

Flipping heck Juice at least you know what you don't want.

Kdk, love the unintelligent versus uneducated comment. Agree with you totally. a guy doesn't have a degree but his wit is sharp as a knife and a bit of life experience and who cares.

I'm not sure what my no goes are, he can have the most impecable house, job etc but if I don't fancy him that's a no go. Then again you can wake up in twenty something hell in a less than hygenic bed and wish you were still there .

DONTtouchMUMSspecialJUICE · 05/04/2010 08:56

but i dont mind 2 of belle's top 4, smoking and hairy are fine by me. suppose snoring to an extent as dc dad used to snore. was pita but not something i couldn't live with. but anyone who snored as badly as my brother(he used to wake us upwhen he slept accross the hallway in different room as a child[shock)i couldn't handle.

as for the bed thing... note i said when they were expecting you to come over. if it was an impromptu visit... and place was a mess i would not have any isues with that.

but if they had invited me over, and knew i was coming for the evening, and staying over... it's down right minging to have musty bed sheets.

thesouthsbelle · 05/04/2010 09:07

juicy & kdk yep i'd go with all of yours as well. lol.

honest no wonder i'm single with a list so long lol. too fussy I guess. thing is thou the teeth thing never really bothered me with XH (well till I didn't have to look at them I guess. )

kdk · 05/04/2010 09:43

god, I'd forgotten about the teeth thing - yup, that's going on the list as well ...

Also forgot to mention shortness ... or excessive height (went out with someone of 6' 6" for a long while many years ago and suffered from permanent cricked neck!)

piratecat · 05/04/2010 10:06

i will never forget the revulsion/shock of seeing 'further' TEETH pics of a potential date on his fb page.

tight lipped means summat dodgy going on there!!

lou33 · 05/04/2010 10:38

morning

we had a very relaxed day yesterday, took boris back, then was introduced to some more of his family, then met another of his friends, then came back, walked dora, watched films, had a lazy junk food type dinner and an early night

this morning i got breakfast in bed too

we are going to meet the same friend from yesterday for a drink before we get the kids later

the mad fool told me he has missed the kids being around....but can we make it a monthly thing lol

Remotew · 05/04/2010 11:22

Sounds good Lou. Hope the DC's enjoyed there visit and want to do it again. I need to muster up the enthusiasm for getting dressed then going out for lunch somewhere. Miserable day up here.

Finally got the flat pack desk put together yesterday. DD's room is looking nice now. So not a complete waste of time, this weekend.

SingleMum01 · 05/04/2010 12:21

Hello everyone,

hope you've all had a good easter. My poor DS is curled up on the sofa under his duvet - too many easter eggs! I did warn him!

Juicy - sounds promising, fingers x'd for you.

Ninah - meet the farmer!

Lou - sounds like you had a good weekend

I had more texts last night and this morning from older bloke - looks like I got away with drinking too much! Suggested we drop in if we're passing later when we go out for the afternoon. Don't know about that yet though, but good that he wants to meet DS.

lou33 · 05/04/2010 18:34

you both seem to have had a good easter too

kids are back with dubious tales of a mad old lady i told him i didnt want around them, but agreed to give her the benefit of the doubt one more time

i wish i hadnt as they have come home with reports that are making my blood boil, mechanic is repeatedly telling me to calm down

i will leave it for a bit then let my feelings be known on the matter

i am making a roast dinner tonight and we will probably settle down to do something lazy like watch a film

sincitylover · 05/04/2010 21:04

sounds great lou. Nice and relaxing.

I took ds2 to my mums today. Bit hairy driving back (drove halfway) got lost twice once nr upminster and once at canary wharf (doh) and home now relaxing with glass of red.

No dcs till saturday. I am so grateful for the break.
